- The 986bhp Ferrari SF90 is, unsurprisingly, no slouch. But just how un-slouchy is it? Well, here's our tame racing driver lapping it around the Top Gear test track and smashing the previous record held by the Ferrari 488 Pista.

same could be said about McLaren too, 720S, 600LT but now that they are improving their F1 standings the 765LT comes out and Chris Harris says it's disappointing

@Alpaca Massa lost the F1 championship by one point at his home race at the last corner of the last lap. Although the team was good, the MORALE was at rock bottom. But i take your point.

INX really miss the old top gear. Anyone feel that the stig is also different? Doesn't drive as well as the old ones.
It’ll never be the same...first time I’ve seen a lap of the track since clarkson Hammond and may moves on...fond memories of many a happy Sunday night when you stopped whatever you were doing and just enjoyed amazing cars being driven by funny blokes!!!...even the grand tour wasn’t the same!!!!
@@paulquinn7592 Absolutely agreed. Visiting family on the other side of my country (Netherlands), i would leave early and drive the 250km home to make sure i was in time for TopGear. Now? Sorry, but no. Those 3 idiots were TopGear, and TopGear was them, If you get what i mean. I watched the first episode without them, hated it and never watched again. It's not the same and it will never be. Even though i know that the 3 are getting older and TopGear in that form was allways going to end at some point. Even now i think the current form of The Grand Tour is some sort of farewell tour. They'll probably do this for one or two years and then announce retirement.
It's just not the same...
They can't even keep the same line up more than a couple seasons.

@@Has7DCT It does sound turbo k ish and a couple of siamesed k20's would make an interesting v8. It wouldn't suprise me in the least that the architecture of the k's inspired a bunch of manufacturers including ferrari.

That moment when he took the fast right hander (Follow through) and up to the tires was absolutely scary. One slight mistake and it's either a 360 spin into the barriers or a head on collision with the tire wall. That part is threading a needle at 160 mph. I have no idea how Schumacher didn't lift off the gas when he took it in the FXX.
Downforce. You add enough of it, no speed is too much speed, at least on a fast corner.

Like they said, slicks, lighter car, downforce etc.... Also over 300HP less though, don't think that would be possible with 1000hp to the rear wheels regardless

Ferrari 488 Pista 1:12.70
Quit a big difference when you consider this car isn’t setup for the track necessarily, while the 488 pista is. In a straight line this car is scary fast, much faster than the pista (which is also scary fast)

Yes but I think the gap comes from the dig start, the sf90 is awd and pulls already 0.5 second at least from the launch
@@matzepizzaheld8541 100% correct. Watching the videos side by side the SF90 pulled that gap at the start and maintained it through out the lap. Cutting out the start the lap times are almost identical.
To see a completely road-legal SF90 just a shy one second slower than the 12-year-old track-only FXX really shows just how much engineering advancement has happened.

The FXX was not a track only car ...!!!...Yes they used it only on the track ...because that was the contract between Ferrari and ...FXX owners for exclusivity ...!!!....Dont forget the FXX only had 800hp.....and the SP 90 ....968hp....big difference .... ....That doesnt really say anything about technological advancement ....But ...as i have mentioned ....i am a FERRARI .....fanatic since i was 8 years old .....so it is still a win....win ....situation for me.!!!.....
The Caparo T1 from 2008 did 1:10.6 though, quicker than both the SF90 and FXX
0:23 I love that 2 -> 3 early upshift to reduce wheelspin at corner exit. So awesome.
What I find the more impressive is the way it turns, seems very sharp !

I know it's a joke, but that would be a total disaster if it happened. The track is a figure of 8 so the drivers would cross paths in the middle of the track.

Not FXXK. It was a vanilla FXX, not even an FXX Evokuzione or an FXX K/FXXK Evo. Besides, Emperor Michael Schumacher was driving that black queen.

This is my first time seeing a full lap from inside a car around the TG track. All I can say is wow. That looked exceedingly difficult and dangerous
Yeah I know these are road cars but didn't expect this car to need this much wrangling to go quick. Very impressive time for something that looked like it could lose traction at any moment. At the end of the day Ferrari did well considering this is still a driveable, relatively comfortable road car. They could probably make it go even faster if they slapped on huge aero bits like on the McLaren Senna or even the GT2, but that's not really Ferrari's style I guess.
@@arthurb5194 As you say, it's a road car and here it's being driven right on the limit around a technical circuit.
Even in F1, drivers will make lots of little adjustments during tight corners though obviously purpose built race cars grip and balance much better
Tom Raymond yeah I basically forgot just how little grip road cars had. Almost like driving a GT3 car in the rain. Love seeing stig having to carefully pitch the car into corners, whereas F1 or GT cars can stay planted on turn in. Really impressive driving from the stig, and the track time doesn’t lie.
Basically I just got used to watching race on boards hahaha. This lap reminds me of how I felt watching the RUF yellow bird on the Nurburgring

@@Wpjgdmtu Well, there's also the SF90 Assetto Fiorano, the "track" version of the SF90 Stradale. With nearly slick tyres, less weight (-30Kg) and GT dampers. Surely The Assetto Fiorano is at least 0.5/1 sec faster than the Stradale on the same circuit
Man, the Stig couldn't have done a lap much better than that if he tried 1000 times. Amazing to watch him wrangle that thing.

The Stig: yes
The 1st to 2nd gear is my sweet sound spot. The laferrari does it too... so violently fast
The amazing thing is that at the start the Stig is not changing gears at all, he lets the launch control take over, and even the downshifts on the first hairpin, then he does the shifting via the gear levers behind the steering wheel. He was at the limit the whole time, just about to lose control.
That's how a real racing driver should be

I literally just heard last night that the sf90 did this lap at top gear, looked for a video and it wasn’t there. They did this lap back in May. Now here it is. 🤔

spoiler, ferrari faster 0-100 (200hp more) then speedtail takoff and bye bye, drag racing and top speed is the purpose of the speedtail, like the jesko absolut or the chiron 300+
Would be very difficult to find a speedtail owner who is willing to dragrace it against the sf90, because limited edition vs unlimited production car

Well it beat Pista which is slower than many cars on track like GT2RS or SVJ or 765LT or 918 or many others! Im not sure if any of these were tested on this track
TRX X @ the gt2rs was tested on this track and was 1 sec slower than the pista, aka 2 sec slower than the sf90, the svj is a joke, every track where it got tested apart from the Nurburgring, it got spanked, 918 is slower then the gt2rs on track, so here are your answers
@@matzepizzaheld8541 I never saw Pista beating GT2RS at any track, also 918 is slower because of old tires, with new tires its faster than those, actually I have my doubts on SF90, I believe GT2RS and 765LT beats it on track

Not necessarily, if you look at the McLaren F1 it pitches like crazy aswell, yet it's very light. So it might just be the suspension setup.
@@mile18810 The McLaren f1 was setup first and foremost to be a road car. It also lacks adaptive dampers and any of the adaptive chassis tech that the sf90 has that should know it's on the race track. Body roll is not nessecarally a bad thing but it does seem to be slightly excessive for a 2020 supercar. Through transitions it seems as if the weight is trying to come around and that is magnified by the pitching motions. However it seems like there is some external force most likley from the front axle torque vectoring that counters this. Seems like just some more fine tuning of the calibration might be required. Regardless it puts down an incredible time. And Ferrari knows that most of these cars, named after an F1 car and equipped with the "assetto Firoano" package will never ever turn a single corner in anger.
Slim mclaren P1 also do that stuff, when it go into launch control the rear suspension automatically soften to increase front pitch to shift all the weight to the back
@@mile18810 It does , but the McLaren F1 arguably didn't have the best of suspensions if I'm not mistaken. So comparing the sf90 to a car more than 20 years old is a bit of a stretch, innit?

The stig isn't a single person. Even when JC and gang were presenting multiple drivers represented the stig. So you can't really tell.

Real car fans know that the Caparo T1 is still the fastest even as we approach 2025 with a 1:10.6 (despite the issues with that car). The Ferrari is quick but it's nearly a full second slower still. Even the Jesko Attack couldn't beat the Caparo's time!

That’s what you call pushing it !!, I’ve always loved Ferrari, Lamborghini, ect…. But I remember when the internet didn’t existed, and their was a few tv episodes about car’s, but you’d almost never saw someone pushing theses cars, even if this is why they were designed for, I remember we were all dreaming about those car’s, they look like going fast, but we never saw anyone’s used it like that, and even in real maybe not often but from time to time you see one on the streets, but I never saw one lives accelerating hard, never in real live time, now we got tones of videos of any builders you want, it’s wonderful, now if by any miracle I could get behind the steering wheel of one of those. 😂😂👍😍
