Madame Luo's criticism of Shiyi was a blessing in disguise. She unknowingly helped her by making the Marquis sympathize with her. It also created an opportunity for Shiyi to see him in a new light. It was the first time that someone stood up for her. Her father was a useless asshat/he never once protected her from the evil stepmother. He even allowed his wife to banish Shiyi/her mother from the Luo family forcing them to live in destitute. Poor Marquis took one step forward with Shiyi by protecting her from Madame Luo's scolding. He just couldn't help himself by sticking his foot in his mouth....lol It's the second time he's misjudged her/compared her to Yuanniang. It's unfortunate that his experience with his late wife/concubines filled him with so much distrust. I guess being around scheming, heartless and self centered women will do that to you...lol I admire the way she stands up for herself. Just one little sentence left him speechless...lol I think this is the first time that a woman has dared to stand up to him in such a manner that left him utterly speechless. He couldn't help but take notice of her afterwards. The icing on the cake was the moment she rejected his assistance while getting out of the carriage. He was so embarrassed by the rejection so he wanted to save face by saying he had to work. Unfortunately Zhaoying called him out...lol Her response was hilarious. @@rachaelwang8195 she only does it so that the entire family knows that Shiyi isn't favored. They know that she prefers Lianfang...and in the end Lianfang was the one that nearly destroyed the family. It was Shiyi who repeatedly stepped up to the plate and saved the entire Xu family.
