Off topic: Thought I would post a new experience here. I finished a glass of Laphroiag 10 and wanted to switch to bourbon. I had Maker's Mark, which according to their 10 yo RUclips tour is whose barrels they use for aging. I found that following the Laphroiag I found none of the classic Maker's Mark flavors and it was mostly sugar and spearmint, the later of which I have never found in Makers. Are there other pairings that have noticeable changes?

is there a searchable flavour map, which can then pick out whisky that is in a similar region? would love to do one of these taste comparisons at home, starting with Glengoyne 18 as that's the one I like the most so far.

The standard Four Roses Single barrel that is referenced in this episode and widely available is always the OBSV recipe and bottled at 100 proof 50% ABV.
However the bottle of Four Roses bourbon they specifically poured in this episode looks to be a Private Label Barrel Strength version. These bottles can vary widely in proof, recipe, and availability. Based on what I saw, I think they specifically had a store pick from a Texas liquor store called Spec's, OESF recipe, bottled at 52.6% ABV.
Four Roses combines two mash bills with five yeast strains to create 10 different bourbon recipes.
Mash bill B is their high rye mash bill (60% Corn | 35% Rye | 5% Malted Barley) the mash bill B recipes are OBSV, OBSK, OBSO, OBSQ, OBSF.
Mash bill E is their lower rye mash bill (75% Corn | 20% Rye | 5% Malted Barley) the mash bill E recipes are OESV, OESK, OESO, OESQ, OESF.
Part of the fun with these barrel strength picks is trying them out at a whiskey bar in a flight or by collecting bottles and comparing notes. OBSV and OESV seem to be the most common. I've yet to come across some of the more rare ones.
Maybe one day there will be an episode showcasing all 10 recipes? One can dream.
Great fun episode as always. Cheers to all you magnificent bastards.
