After I was told to do this on your first sip, it changed my life. I was told when taking your first sip let it sit in the front of your mouth for around 10 seconds. Then swallow that sip. Every sip after that was super enjoyable. This is what started me to enjoy whiskey neat.

I think Rexs point about the Buffalo Trace rareity being regional. Up here in oregon, i've not been to a liquor store that doesnt have a full display of buffalo trace.
That's really strange to hear about Buffalo Trace being hard to find in parts of the US. I live in England and you can buy it in supermarkets and off licenses (liquor stores) all over the country here. It's not uncommon to find it in pubs and bars as well.
I’m in Kentucky. I’ve never had a problem finding Buffalo trace. And that is a fine bourbon if I may say. I have to say though, I’ve always been a maker’s person and I absolutely love the cask strength they put out.
You should bring him back on and let him do a blind tasting of Dalmore 12. Curious if that could win him over to Scotch, also would like to hear his tasting notes.
We have Buffalo Trace in all the major supermarkets here in England like Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. It's usually priced at about £23..My go to Bourbon.

The one thing you should really try to destill. Is kelp and other types of seaweed. If aquaculture could be used to make good whiskey it would be incredible.
@@samcass7621 Cant compare as Redbreast 12 was the first (and only) Irish whisky I've had. Im a bourbon, rye and Islay scotch guy (with islay scotch being my favorite) and for me the "butterscotch" note in the 12 was good but wayyyyy too overpowering for me (sweetness wise). Ill have to try it again as I tried it at a bar a while back and perhaps may have misjudged it. Report back and let us know how you like it!

Buffalo Trace is cheap EVERYWHERE it is sold. Problem is, that "everywhere it is sold" is becoming smaller it seems. I can only get it if I order it online.

Off topic: Thought I would post a new experience here. I finished a glass of Laphroiag 10 and wanted to switch to bourbon. I had Maker's Mark, which according to their 10 yo RUclips tour is whose barrels they use for aging. I found that following the Laphroiag I found none of the classic Maker's Mark flavors and it was mostly sugar and spearmint, the later of which I have never found in Makers. Are there other pairings that have noticeable changes?
is there a searchable flavour map, which can then pick out whisky that is in a similar region? would love to do one of these taste comparisons at home, starting with Glengoyne 18 as that's the one I like the most so far.
I’m with Joe with the Michter’s. Not that it burn but that it was my biggest bottle regret. I did not get any of the notes that everyone says. It was like an over oaked rye. Which makes no sense. Bummer.

However the bottle of Four Roses bourbon they specifically poured in this episode looks to be a Private Label Barrel Strength version. These bottles can vary widely in proof, recipe, and availability. Based on what I saw, I think they specifically had a store pick from a Texas liquor store called Spec's, OESF recipe, bottled at 52.6% ABV. Four Roses combines two mash bills with five yeast strains to create 10 different bourbon recipes. Mash bill B is their high rye mash bill (60% Corn | 35% Rye | 5% Malted Barley) the mash bill B recipes are OBSV, OBSK, OBSO, OBSQ, OBSF. Mash bill E is their lower rye mash bill (75% Corn | 20% Rye | 5% Malted Barley) the mash bill E recipes are OESV, OESK, OESO, OESQ, OESF. Part of the fun with these barrel strength picks is trying them out at a whiskey bar in a flight or by collecting bottles and comparing notes. OBSV and OESV seem to be the most common. I've yet to come across some of the more rare ones. Maybe one day there will be an episode showcasing all 10 recipes? One can dream. Great fun episode as always.
