I bought one! I’m very pleased with it, if you rode a Dominator in the past, you’ll feel at home. After about 300 miles it’s loosened up and goes well, my only dislikes are that hazard switch, which I’ve cut the knob off, and a lack of neutral light, it puts a small “N” in the clock LCD which comes and goes slowly when you go through neutral. The standard tyres are woeful off road, buy surprisingly good on the tarmac, I’ll change them for some Twinduros. The fuel gauge is ok but underreads a bit. Overall the build quality is really good, as he says in the video, this is way better than the stuff we’ve come to expect from China, but don’t forget it’s made by Shineray who make bikes for Honda, it’s quite expensive for a Chinese bike, but quality comes at a price, I reckon.

@@Mafez800 Hi Manuel, yes I’m still happy with the bike, I really enjoy riding it, people are still stopping me and asking me about it! Although I don’t ride it very much at the moment as I’ve recently got into enduro riding and have bought a 500 Honda for that job. I’ve got it up for sale at DMA motorcycles if you fancy it, and you’re in the UK, £4300 and she’s yours with about 500 miles in the clock. Either way, I hope you have fun on mine or a new one, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

with the small front wheel it looks more like a Super Moto bike. I agree the front wheel would look better if it was slightly larger, but the smaller wheel probably makes it more "flickable", with less gyroscopic effect.

Second time through this, and I don't think I left a comment, so have one this time. Stunning bike. As a former XT500 owner who lusted after a Dominator in the late 80s, this bike really appeals. 169 kg must be a dry weight, surely. I like the 17'' front wheel. I like the colour.

Regarding the mash 650cc bike the only negative that I can spot, is that we don’t get to have it in Greece....
As an XT600E 2003 owner and with no intentions to sell it, I still want a new bike of the same style and philosophy, next to my old and trusty Yamaha 
That bike with a few changes, as you very well mentioned more than twice, could be a very good update for people that have this particular vintage, dual sport motorcycling approach.

I’ve bought one from The guys at Saltire who done a great deal for me! I can agree with Ogri it’s a great bike .I’ve done around 150 miles now with it and a demonstrator that Victor Devine lent me.I bought it because of the styling (I also have a 1979 xt 500) and it doesn’t disappoint. The ride is great , it steers well and the brakes are superb. The front wheel does look a little small but you don’t notice it when your on it. I’m not a hard core knee down kind of rider but I’ve owned a few bikes over the years ( 6 or 7 in the last 2 years alone!) and it’s up there with any of them. The only criticism I have is the instruments or lack of! I would have liked a trip meter and a gear indicator and a clock. But thats all I could really critique. It’s a great bike , it’s light, chuckable, has enough power to take the missus on the back and looks the part. The build quality is great and and at a bit over 5 k how can you go wrong? I nearly bought a bmw f750 ( still waiting on the phone call about the test ride from bmw Glasgow!) and at twice the price! Glad I didn’t the mash is great.... buy one and it won’t dissapoint.

They out performed big money open class race bikes with nothing more than a 19" front wheel change even with a stock pipe. I have owned 3 and still have 2. This new motorcycle is impressive even though its somewhat quirky looking with the small front wheel. It looks like one I would want to test ride if available in the central United States.

Great video and a lovely bike! Can I say what a good job you’ve been doing with all your reviews. I love your presenting style and mix of light humour and proper information. Keep up the good work! I hope the channel continues growing despite the obvious limitations due to the size of the target audience.
    PS: definitely needs bigger wheels!

I agree that it needs a 19" front wheel. I don't normally like the scrambler exhausts but on this bike it looks good. The bike overall looks great I think. What looked weird was how low your boots were during the ride, almost to scrape the road. I hope that wasn't because the suspension was so loose that road clearance dropped substantially to street bike level. It didn't look like that when you were sitting on it stationary. Power to weight ratio looks potent as well.

I've just purchased one unregistered as I couldn't wait. Ill register it in March on a 21 plate. It's in my garage stood next to my fully restored 1979 XT500F, they look great together, I cant wait until the spring.
I've had a couple of months to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Whilst it's no BMW or Honda, and as a mechanical engineer, the build quality is pretty good considering it came from China.
Things I've found, the frame looks like its painted, not bad, spokes are not Stainless, some cable runs are poor along with some nasty cable grommets, some smaller bolts are plated steel but quite a few are surprisingly Stainless. Took me a while to work out how to switch the speedo from Kph to Mph. Cycle Ignition switch ON/OFF 3 times and leave on after 3rd cycle, nothing in the manual nor on line strangely.
But come on, its a hell of a lotta bike for 5 grand brand new. I just love the look of it
I've bought this just for summer tatting around in the Peak District
Andy aged 60 , never thought Id admit to that publicly.....

Provided it does 'The Ton'- I would have one of these, (fitted with clip-ons and a proper front mudguard.) Unfortunately- you do not mention BHP/ Rake and Trail- or fuel consumption!?!
Certainly- it is an interesting machine- if you are into 'plonkers'.

This may be the first Chinese bike I wish we had available in Canada. Fortunately, we can still buy the Suzuki DR650 which is more rustic and not very comfortable (I know, I used to own one), but at least it's a proper air-cooled thumper. When it comes to this Mash, the looks scream Yamaha, which is a good thing. Would it look better with a 19" front wheel ? perhaps, but it's plenty good looking as it is.
Edit: one month later, I just watched a French video in which a rep for Mash stated that they are working on a version with a 21" front and 18" rear wheels to be launched in spring 2021.

I preferred my DR650SE over the XR650L I had, mainly because of the engine. It's one of the few bikes I remember of the 40+ bikes I owned in the last 25 years, along with the XS650.
If you can ride a DR legally in your country, you're lucky! Get one as long as they are still available! :)

    • @CaptHollister
      @CaptHollister 3 года назад

@@PrimoStracciatella The DR650SE is still listed by Suzuki Canada for 2021, so we can still buy them new, although good used ones are plentiful and cheap. An alternative is the Kawasaki KLR650, possibly the best do-it-all motorcycle ever made. Kawasaki stopped making it 2 years ago, but like the Suzuki, used ones are cheap and plentiful.

I meant to say, regarding the neutral selection issue. It's a brand new bike, I'll bet that goes away after a few hundred miles. Both because of the gearbox needing to free up, but also you might be getting a bit of clutch drag with brand new clutch and oil?

Great review, never heard of these before as I'm young and into sports bikes, but I'm going to be in the Amalfi Coast with my girlfriend in a few weeks and despite having had an A2 for two years and now my full A, due to my age I am limited to what I can rent. My only two options beyond mopeds appears to be either the Royal Enfield Himalayan, or this (which I am fine with, a sports bike would definitely not be suited for the two of us!). I am leaning towards this as it's got around 10 more horsepower and is 20kg lighter so I think that will greatly help with a pillion, although I wonder if the ergonomics of the Himalayan (i.e. seat size and positioning) may suit a two-up ride better. She is only small so I'm sure it would work on this bike, will only be for a few hours over a day or two.

I like the Mash, what's the fuel consumption and range? Can I fit luggage to it? I've got Lomo throw-over panniers, but that high level exhaust might cause a problem unless the Mash can be fitted with pannier racks.
Those tyres are more road-oriented than the look of the bike suggests. I imagine that most Mash buyers will not be doing much off-roading, it's more about the street-cred. Which is totally OK, of course.
For off-road or green lanes, I would have concerns about the plastic bash-plate and not so brilliant ground clearance that I can perceive from your video. I think you are right about the wheel-size issue, sure they look super-cool, but off-road performance would be improved by a bigger front wheel and decent 60/40 (on-off road) tyres.
Try the new Royal Enfield 450 Himalayan, 40bhp, same as the Mash and with retro-styling. And cheap as chips.
    Love and peace.
