I'm not proud of this, but I actually do really enjoy this game. I played it a ton on GCN. Except the flying levels. They are terrible. Cool weapons, a Halo ripoff stage in the mountain ascent level, a stealthy level with poison arrows that make enemies vomit to death? What's not to love?
The Zoo cheat is pretty cool too, even if it's mostly made for sadists to kill dinos and animals that can't fight back. Still an interesting cheat. Remember cheat codes? That weren't paid DLC? Sigh....

genuinely so happy to see someone else brought up the zoo cheat lol
I'm in my late 20s and had the OG Turok games as a kid and I dunno, even for a not so great XBOX game, it felt cool to me to just walk by and see a T-Rex in a wide enclosure lol.

I also enjoyed this game a whole lot. The weapons were fun, shooting enemies left a nice mess and the enemies were still interesting (unlike some other Turok game that was kinda bland).

I actually liked it too, even when playing it recently. I liked the flying too, though I just enjoy flying games in general (as long as it's not terrible). It's not like Rogue Squadron, but fun enough.

Turok evolution was one of the games that made me realize that just because it has the name of an all time favorite game series doesn't mean that it has the same love and care put into it as it's predecessors.
And it's worse knowing the tragedy of Acclaim.

One of my favorite parts of this game was shooting an enemy with a poison arrow, and then blowing up their head just as the wretching animation started. If you time it right, their headless body stands there vomiting from its neck before falling over. Hilariously disturbing.

Also if it happens that the enemy happens to stand close enough to a cliff (or any high place) so that the vomit falls off the edge it turns into waterfall of sick, becouse the game spawns as many vomit particels as it can during that animation and they only cease to be until they hit the floor. And if that floor is 20m down bellow...

I remember that the TEK bow was actually a straight downgrade from the starting bow in this game. There was a bug with the starter bow where if you tapped the shoot button without charging the arrow at all, it would not drop. But if you charged it, then the arrow had physics applied to it. So by just tapping it quickly enough you had a perfect accuracy hitscan bow - and it didn't work with the TEK bow.

I’ve grown to love the flying sections. It’s really fast paced and easier to master than from what I remember. The game is rushed but was and is still super fun to play and beast the levels. Taking little to no damage when you are on the lift going from one tower to the next fighting the ships. Weapon comboing the enemies. I always love using a explosive arrow then switching to the shotgun and pumping it with the secondary running up to them while they try to get back on their feet.

  • @Necromagenvi0n

Aye, this game is a prequel to Dinosaur Hunter only because Tal'Set (aka the greatest warrior who has held the Turok mantle) stars in both. The next wave of games, Game Boy included, would have the Fireseed family as the protagonists, Joshua being the most important member of the lineage.
Also, it's interesting how the GBA version of Evolution is literally a Contra/Metal Slug-esque game.

The main character of Evolution is Tal'Set, who has a fairly interesting history with the canon. See, the original Turok game was based off of the Turok: Dinosaur Hunter comic series by Valiant since Acclaim only just recently acquired Valiant and hadn't kicked off their series of Turok comics just yet, so technically T:DH has literally nothing to do with Turok 2, since Seeds of Evil was the first of the games to be based off of Acclaim's Turok. In Valiant's Turok, the story centers around 2 protagonists named Turok and Andar, the former being the playable character in T:DH. In Acclaim's Turok, the story mostly focuses Joshua Fireseed, who is player character in T2:SOE. Turok Evolution is meant to be a prequel to T:DH but is still canon to the Acclaim Multiverse, which complicates things as you can imagine.

Though, it will test your patience with its rushed development jank. I see no harm in using chapter cheats to skip the flying if it's proving too much trouble. The mouse is way too sensitive, and I couldn't bother myself to setup a controller (if I'm not mistaken, the binds might not save when you exit out of the game). But if you have a steady hand and plenty of patience, there is some satisfaction to be had in beating the flight levels.

I bought the remastered versions of Turok 1 & 2 not too long ago, since it was a childhood favorite, but these games don't really hold up very well. The levels are too long and dying is too punishing. But I do love that they have a bunch of platforming sections. This was truly a weird time in FPS history.

If you hang around the dinosaurs with the spike on their tails in the first level, they will eventually spray diarrhea. 10/10

I remember playing this on the Gamecube... and being kinda disappointed of how dull the game felt. Only redeeming thing I found was playing multiplayer with a friend and using the tomahawk on each other... amusingly, if you use the power attack by holding the button down, you can one-hit kill each other at the same time.
Also one of the devs was at my art college (Art Institute) speaking to us about the development of this game sometime in the late 2000's... I sadly don't remember too much, but what I do recall was he explained one of the many reasons why the game did so badly was because there was too many hands making the game, such as one person was making one map and another person entirely from I think another team made another... and often the size of the maps were inconsistent to one another, so presumably you were normal human-sized in one level and the next level would've had you the size of an ant, so I guess there was a lot of wasted time and resources to resize them

I think this Turok has the best nuke in the whole series, too bad you can't cheat to use it in other levels outside the one you get it in
