I mean, for all the flak the A-10's take, good on them for recommitting and ensuring the target was destroyed. It was also nice to see blue CAP effectively for once.
As blue's controller It was real hectic from my seat. Apart from the Harrier that crashed partway through (cmon aunty you can do better ;), the entire rest of the package arrived at the target and was able to deliver its payload. It really hurt seeing the MiG-21s die so early, that was most of the escort packages' missiles, but they made it work, and we actually got a couple planes home. A+ on the F-5s who stayed behind knowing they'd run out of fuel, that BARCAP was essential to getting the survivors back home
First time as an (admittedly informal) Grim Reapers controller this time round. Learned a lot and I hope to do more in the future! Definitely need to work on being concise...
You sounded nervous (first time nerves im sure) but i think you did a pretty good job all up.

hvymtal: I thought you did a great job! It's the most important job on any given mission, in my opinion.
When you are GCI for the Reapers, are you directing aircraft (i.e. mission commander) or just calling bogies/intercepts (i.e. radar tech)?
From what I can tell, the Reapers need an awesome, dedicated GCI. It's probably not the most exciting role but it's definitely needed.
I think you did an excellent job!, all that bleeding out via multiple voices and you were very clear to me, well done :D
It was exciting to watch and the music added that hopefulness to the dogfighting. Thumbs up to all parties.

F5 pilots were heroes. Great flying. Love your Red team aggressors. Awesome pilots.
I did my best to ensure they were at the right place at the right time, so considering I could not see enemy aircraft at any point from the controller's seat, I feel like I did my best, and the F-5s worked their asses off on this one
Those F5s are showing they can still do great in a knife fight!
Damn, that hornet around 25:00 is simply ridiculous. Really goes to show the massive leap between third and fourth generation fighters.
I really enjoyed this video, I didn't enjoy the briefing much until I understood it, but the whole video I loved. The camera work was brilliant, the fights and comms were intense, the battle report where everyone explained what was planned and what actually happened was great, this one of my favorite channels now.

Blue had GCI but no awacs so our GCI (hvymtal) didnt have a great view but did a great job non the less !
Blue also had a 7 man CAP team! a nice change :)

i definitely approve of this sort of planned out mission, it gives everybody a proper role rather than picking an a10 to hunt ships, because a viggen will do it so much better, because it has dedicated A-S missiles, that will kill a ship from up to 40 or more KM away,

I watched you Twitch stream and thought that was the best mission flown by you for a while. I know there were some mistakes (nozzles) but you got low down in the canyons, took relatively simple ordinance, made one pass and got out. Nicely done.
If Aunty hadn't deliberately sacrificed herself so those Johnny come lately Americans could come in and say they won the war all by themselves the Harriers could have nailed everything.
An observation on the air combat: The Hornets seemed to be trying to drag the F5s and MiG-21s into a turning fight. While you have numbers, when an F5 has them in this turning fight someone else needs to anticipate where the Hornet will end up and cut it off to launch a missile or even gun it. Teamwork, combined arms etc.
The A10s can turn extremely well too. Once they'd dropped their ordinance they could have used their turn to cut the Hornets off the F5s were engaged with. If you get the same teamwork attitude from the A10s as you did the F5s you're onto a winner.
A turning fight between a Hornet and an A10 might be useful for future reference. The most important thing is knowing when to call it. The A10s then dump all other ordnance (obviously after their bombing job has been completed) and help the F5s. You can't outrun them to escape so maybe you need to teamwork out fight them?
Maybe get Tail on working that strategy out as he's the main F5 man?
I don't like having a go at the GCI but there was too much chatter going on. Read the book Black Hawk Down about information overload. ;-) You could all read it as it's a very good book. :-)

Riddle: The CBU-97/105s worked, right? I've been trying to get y'all to use them for weeks! They are an amazing weapon when used properly.
Whoever recommended their use in the briefing deserves "Man of the Match" in my opinion.
I think I brought it up first, but I'm not sure. They didn't do squat this round but they'll probably be much more useful in the future

CBU min altitude is about 30metres, so no.
I was just on the cusp of Invalid fusing, the issue was we were in such a state of urgency we couldnt pop up to the right alt for the CCIP drop. our bombs went past the target and we tried again

Epic mission, tons of fun.
A true return to form for the GRs. Entertaining from start to finish. I was pleased to see how you were beginning to apply lessons from the Coffee campaign- trying to co-ordinate your force and arrive with a time on target and your GCI was trying hard to keep you organised..and, yeah, he could have been a bit less wordy, but it is easy to see he made a positive contribution..and practice will make him better. Blues seemed so much more effective as a result and plenty of individual star efforts to keep the tension throughout. I have noticed that the Hornet radar is quite tricky to use...probably a realistic difficulty compared to the low resolution modules we have been used to....as a result it seems that the Hornets never really got very many BVR launches from what I could see and a lot of AIM7 sparrows were still on the rails in the merges that followed....I would not be surprised if the reds found the Blues through the use of their AWACS to then spot their targets visually...perhaps only getting to use their own radars effectively once they switched to ACM mode. Well done to all...the fact the A10s didn’t all get left by their mates and immediately exploded speaks volumes about how well this went! More like this, please.

@TheKardinal ruclips.net/video/6qV8gtgEW6s/видео.html This will show you what we were/were not seeing. The radar in the F-18 is garbage right now and the missiles equally as much. Uderosa and Merlin were able to get a sparrow off each because they were nose on and didn't have to move at all, but you'll see later in our video where 2 of Coffee's sparrows just don't really do anything. Once they fix the radar and the ACM modes the F-18 will be a little closer to a Flanker, but ET's and EO mode are still much better than the current F-18 without Fox-3's.
RedFor thanks for your reply...I have watched the video and it illustrates what you have said well. A growing conversation I have begun to see is how the extra realism of the Hornet radar, even when AMRAAM becomes available, will still put it at a significant disadvantage to the simplified F15 Etc radar models within DCS. Should these be dumbed down to be less perfect is the current line of questioning.
@TheKardinal Yes I am somewhat glad they've gone for a more "realistic" radar, but only to an extent. Apparently the radar is actually searching for targets which sounds good in theory, but with the locking targets delay, the terrible tracking on the sparrows, the drop lock after pulling more than about 1.5g's, and very poor ACM modes, it just doesn't work in-game or like real-life:). So they really need to fix a few of these in order for the others to not be so constraining.

this is all prior to watching. A-10C are the perfect tool for the mission. what is needed is air superiority to give them the time to do their job.

Great video! Better use of the assets than normally. A little more training with CBU 95 and (especially) CBU 105 seems to be needed. The CBU 105 would have been my choice. CAP, can you make a video on how to do as a GCI. Do you need Combined arms? How does it work?

You vids are making me want to get back in to flights sims, havent played the since the days of falcon and mig 29 from '98 but have been flying dcs with keyboard and mouse for the last few days with many a crash and 3 decent landing. And now got hotas on order!

i want to join gr, my pc is fully capable of running dcs, however i am concerned about my complete lack of experience and lack of proper controls- how much should i spend on joysticks etc... and how much time do you reckon i should spend learning the game before applying? [edit] I would be learning cas primarily, so harriers and a10s

You need better redfor pilots.
tbh, the red pilots are some of the vets from the group. The issue is AIM-7s in the F-18 dont work very well, neither does the radar. They did very well, and they usually kick Blue's asses with 4 planes. they killed most of us this mission, but we were able to get to target
