This so cool. I used to work on Harriers for the Marine Corps as an airframes mechanic. The idling sound of the Harriers is pretty spot on. A very high pitched whining that I will never forget. FYI the maintenance hours required per flying hours is 12-1 on average. Also, the hot nozzles glow red at night when it hovers because of the intense heat. Cool aircraft, but I'm glad I'm done fixing them haha

I agree, if you going for a slow ground attack mission, the A10 is probably better. Harrier's advantage is its VTOL which wasn't even important for this mission.

@@neurofiedyamato8763 In a real world scenario you would have used 4 harriers at night, launched off of a ship probably. If there were any chance of an air to air threat then there would probably be Navy F-18's in the area.
That's why I specified for this mission. They took off from a land base.

Seriously, none of you commited any time to dealing with the migs knowing full well that they were present shortly after arriving on the coastline and everybody tunnel visioned on the boats instead, and with absolutely know usage of countermeasures as at least a precaution when those boats could EASILY have been guarded with stingers, on top of the intercepting reds being blatantly ignored.
Fuck that mission was a disaster, even IF the tankers were destroyed it cost way too much in wasted resources to achieve and you best believe even allies to the blue team would be hard pressed to consider that a victory.

Why no top cover for your air strike? 2 guys in F-14s could not only alert the rest of you to incoming migs, but could provide anti-fighter cover while the rest of the aircraft take out the tankers.

Sabre pilot needs to work on strafing discipline or he'll become a lawn dart real soon.
Quite an interesting mission, love the cockpit rage! as Tuuvas pointed out you must have clipped your nozzle control at some point. I'm always doing the same thing so much so I've developed 'nozzle twitch' where I check the indicator so many times I get a stiff neck :)

Its a shame that the STO lock lever wont lock the nozzles fully to flight mode, that would be such a life saver...unless you forget its on lol. You're not originally from East Anglia are you CAP? Your accent when you said beautiful is very Norfolk :)

Nozzles were at almost 40 degrees down! And it's better to use plane's camera first to aim and then switch to MAVs to obtain lock! Otherwise - great vid as always, thanks!

Pardon my ignorance, Grim Reapers - I wish to understand how you guys do what you do. Are you guys on PC consoles in different locations - maybe even in different countries, and communicating via headsets, using Virtual Reality Headsets to fly the DCS aircraft? And maybe you all have cockpit simulator equipment - joysticks, throttles, buttons etc, and fly these missions cooperatively while coordinating over headsets?
Is this how you do it?
I checked your website, and cannot see pictures of the set-up you are achieving this magic on...
The last question - is this going to be the way we will fight the alien invaders when they come? Hahaha!

Always with the damned Harriers. Every time I see these things I can’t help but think, “well, I suppose it’s marginally better than a Cessna 172 carrying a single U.S. Marine with an MG”.
They actually made pods for the Harriers to carry spec ops for insertion/extraction, or to pick up downed pilots or other rescue missions. Not that that has anything to do with what you're saying, but it brought some old memories to the front of my brain. :)

Cap, your "Awful piece of shit aeroplane" wasn't to blame. You have to check your nozzles! They were 50 degrees or so once you started your attack runs. Something is making them creep down during your flight. Maybe you're bumping the lever or there is some problem with your HOTAS? Check your variables before you blame the plane.
It's true, during the flight I am rubbing the roller switch. Errrm I'm not sure of a solution yet.

Good stuff. As a newbie to dcs, (3000+ hrs online with p3d) can you point me in the direction as to the roles of all the dcs fighters, ie, what planes best for certain scenarios. Cheers boys.
dan172 the planes are all based on what they are intended for service in real life. Planes like the A10 and Viggen are excellent strike planes but can't field off CVs. Hornets and Harriers are your CV strike package plane with the hornet serving as a decent fighter if not carrying ground ordnance. F15 is the king of the sky for fighters but also can't launch off CVs. The russkies same deal. Su27/Mig29 are the gotos for AS planes, with the Su25 being the ground pounder. Su33 launches off the Russian CVs and fulfills a similar role as the Hornet (currently better at air combat because the Hornet doesn't have AIM120s yet.)

Probably a dumb question, but are you not warned when you have a missile tracking you? Noticed a severe lack of evasive maneuvers and or flairs.
Depends what kind of seeker head: SARH/Active/IR/SACLOS/CCD?
heatseakers are actually passive sensors so they don't emit anything that could be detected by your aircraft. The only way to know one is coming is actually look and see it coming.
Also they flew a strike mission directly into enemy interceptors with no escort and didn't even stock any sidewinders...a veritable suicide run if there was ever one, with the predictable results.
