I'm a huge Shida fan but even I realized that for the advancement of the Women's division, Britt has to win. Shida will be champion again in the future, no doubt about that.
This did not age well bro. The division actually got worse with Baker as champ because at least Shida can actually wrestle and make other girls look good.

This might honestly steal the show, I love AEW's hype packages.
It feels obvious like Britt will win...but almost TOO obvious, so I'm going out on a limb and predicting the swerve. Shida wins in her first defense in front of a crowd.
They can always have Britt weasel her way into another title shot on TV a few weeks later.
This one really could go either way for me.
The thing that had me curious is them going to the lengths of presenting a new belt to Shida. Partly to mark a year as champion, as well as doing it all during a pandemic. Timing seemed weird to me.
If they were going to pull the trigger tonight and have Britt win, then they could have delayed the new belt until she wins, and make it a big thing on Dynamite next week. New champ, new belt.
As you say, Britt can always earn a rematch later on.
I don't think there is anywhere for Britt to go if she loses this match. Unless there is almost some sort of swerve where Shida uses some dirty tactics to win like her kendo stick and thus giving her the win and Britt all the steam to claim it was an unfair win and turn it into a rematch with No DQ or something. But if Britt were to just lose clean to Shida - Well, Britt could never call herself the best in AEW.
@@coolioso808 You could have Rebel inadvertently cost Britt the match by like smacking her with Shida's kendo stick, then she'll spend the next few weeks whining about how it wasn't fair and that she'll want just that, a No DQ match, with the stip being that Rebel isn't allowed out there or else.
If anything else, it gets you another hardcore title match main event for Dynamite ratings 💁♂️
Before Dynamite this Friday, I definitely agreed with you, that Britt would definitely win. But when they made a point of saying “haven’t defended in front a full crowd,” I thought, “hmmmm they may hold off just a little while longer with Britt winning the championship.”
