Nobody ever mentions how much Halloween Ends pays tribute to a lot of John Carpenter's work. The blue font in the opening is a nod to Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, signifying the absence of Michael. Although only produced by John Carpenter, the idea of Halloween 3 featuring a completely different story unrelated to the Myers universe was meant to make the make the franchise be about different Halloween stories and not just stories about the same killer. Halloween Ends begins this way as a tribute to that idea. In Ends, Corey's opening scene attire and his name is very similar to Arnold Cunningham from Christine. In Christine, Arnold, a bullied kid transforms into a killer after getting some kind of attachment to a killer car. Together Arnold and his haunted car work together to murder his tormentors. This is very similar to the connection Michael and Corey had in Ends. People complain that in Ends, Michael got weak. If anyone paid attention to what Laurie said in the end of Kills, she concludes that Michael becomes something more each time he kills l, the more he kills he is more unstoppable. The reason he is called "The Shape" is further explored as him being the entity of evil. Evil cannot die, it just changes shape. In the case for Ends, the new Shape was starting to take shape in Corey. Considering that in Ends it had been 4 years since Michael had a kill to feed off of, his power has weakened. In Halloween 2018, he gain plenty of power from killing a bus full of mental institution guards, and plenty of random kills, doing this he became quickly unstoppable. In Kills, he continued plenty of random attacks. While in Ends, he and Corey shared the kills, but not quite enough. Corey had a good start of kill counts which explains why he still managed to get up from his self inflicted neck stab. But I still don't believe he simply died from his neck break. Corey could still possibly be able to come back. Given the strength they absorb from the kills, the difference between Corey and Michael is that Michael kills at random, but Corey kills with reason. I always thought revealing why Michael couldn't die easy whether he was just a man or something supernatural would ruin the mystery. That mystery was what made him scary. But despite the retcon trilogy fully explaining the mythology, Michael is still pretty mysterious, we really don't know why his kills were so random or who he was before he was "The Shape" evil took. Corey may not be as mysterious, but I find that he's a worthy new Shape and I would have definitely watched a new film with him continuing the series as the new Shape. The story was written to be Jaimie Lee Curtis's outing from the franchise and it felt right. They could still continue with Corey as the new Shape chasing Allyson. But given that the writers planned the trilogy to be complete before the series's studio ownership duration ended after Halloween Ends, it's really up to the next studio who buys the franchise whether to continue that direction left by David Gordon Green or completely retcon the series again without Jamie Lee involved.
I understand the part about him getting stronger as he kills, but the one thing that confused me in Halloween Ends is what the homeless man said. He said that people go in, but never come back out(Michael's lair). If he's been killing during those times too, why was he still weak?
@@cdman7976 it's wasn't really a whole lot to last 4 years. Also that scene was deleted which could have been the reason to avoid confusion. Sometimes I think that Michael also cannibalized those dead bodies in the lair. If you remember, he did eat a dog. It's really your imagination to interpret how Michael works. In some way I think Ends actually sets up how the series can continue without Michael, and with Corey. Sure Corey died but c'mon a neck break? We all know that won't stop him that easily if he became the new "Shape." There's lots that could've happened off screen between the time Laurie left the house and the time she destroys Michaels body at the Junkyard. I believe that if they choose to continue the series off the David Gordon Green direction, they can cook up some explaination based on that off screen time to somehow bring Corey back to continue the new series. He'll be just as young as Myers was in the first film and get stronger like Michael did.
Hope to see Rohan Campbell return as Corey Cunningham in a fun Halloween Movie somehow because he really was a interesting character and something new. A new Boogeyman.
Wasn’t a huge fan of the movie but there was a handful of stuff that I found intriguing. I do also like how Corey’s theme sounds like the Halloween theme almost mimicking in a way that he is basically the heir to The Shape’s mantle
The original(obviously) & Ends are my favourite Halloween films. My only gripe is they killed Corey off instead of having him replace the shape, but having said that, I still loved the direction the film went. The score is 🔥 also
Michael took many lethal blows in his life, if they rlly wanna reboot the franchise after ends they could easily have Corey return as the new embodiment of evil, since he’s evil made instead of evil born, kinda like an opposite to Michael
