Truly groundbreaking when it first came out. Good old haunted house, with an engaging occult/demonic story line and sound affects that'll get you on edge.
I love the epistolary nature of it with the books and diaries too.
I didn't like the other two sequels because they weren't very Lovecraftian which is kinda a shame. It would be awesome if this was updated with today's graphics and everything.
I sure you are not talking about the almighty ALONE IN THE DARK 4? cos that is my babe from this series,, well more of reboot than a sequel

is my # 1 most deepest true survival horror game, also I feel is SO UNDERRATED this days???? I don't know why? I mean I love Biohazard series, silent hill 2 a lot, & many others, but Alone in the dark 4 will always be that giant iconic memory, glad to find people who haven't forgotten of such great classic, I still chocked of how great that game looked for a ps1, sega dreamcast game, it was WAY too revolutionary , & best most atmospheric game of all times. I mean I like the original AITD, but I feel far more connected with the more gothic style of the reboot, maybe was the best reboot of all times ?
about a damn time you are bringing ALONE IN THE DARK to your channel brother :)) but seriously AITD 4 a new nightmare is the one you truly want to bring, that is a how a true badass reboot to a series shall be done, Edward Carnby is one of the greatest survival horror icons of all times
btw I truly want to see a remake of this original Alone in the dark with same developers who did AITD 4, that would be my survival horror dream
Unfortunately, the new remake or reboot coming in 2024 doesn't have Carnby redheaded or with his iconic mustache. But, hoping it replicates most of the flavor & atmosphere of the 1992 original.

Was fun to watch. It's weird seeing graphics like this when I'm used to the ones we got now. While I wouldn't call this horror it was still fun to watch. If it has sequels will you do them too?
So, six years later would you still not call this horror?
@Bambuzzsprosse I've noticed a lot of younger gamers who can't seem to accept something as part of the horror genre if it doesn't go out of its way to be gorey and/or full of jump scares with a gritty aesthetic.
To them these games are just "horror themed".
@@dommoore6180 It's a lack of imagination, which is why the younger generation get bored so easily. I played this game in school and it had me on edge because of the story and sound affects, the rest you fill in with your imagination.
Excellent game and a grandfather to all of great horror games like Siren, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame and Resident Evil!
It may not be groundbreaking, but it did help blaze the trail for the genre.

It’d be cool to see this game remade Similar to the Resident Evil Remake. It could have pre-rendered backgrounds and semi-static camera angles, and updated gameplay mechanics. I’m not sure if it was the developer’s intention, but the visual style of this game looks a little more like Rare’s Grabbed by the Ghoulies more so than something actually scary. However, I’m imagining something that’s much more realistic and terrifying aesthetically. It could look like a mixture of The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne.
Or if they did intend to make the game look more cartoon-like, they could lean more into that by taking inspiration from old Fletcher and early Disney Era animations and using some kind of cell shading along with pre-rendered backgrounds. If that were the case, I’d like to see something that takes a lot of visual inspiration from Disney’s animated movie 101 Dalmatians. I love the character and environmental design in that movie. I think visually that style could fit well into this spooky setting.
It was supposed to be remade but they cancelled it. There's a video here on youtube though that shows the gameplay

Still got my copy on 3DO! This game was terrifying back when I first played it haha. There were so many ways to die it was crazy; reading that gold book in the library that kills you immediately after blew my mind. I was worried about the Vagabond in the library, and then a book gets me instead. Good times.
The very first Survival Horror Game, I remember I used to play this on my Macintosh...
For the younger kids, now you know where the Silent Hill and RE ideas came from.

How do you play with "enhanced graphics"? I'm playing on steam and the graphics are the original.
Try GOG's version. It does have some settings where you can apply some nice filters like hq3x and bilinear filtering.

Well, it´s on FULL HD, like..."remastered". The original didn´t look that good, but it was indeed groundbreaking for its time.

For the time period, the voice acting in this game is amazing, and I usually watch subs...

this was one of two video games that went 3D early, the second one was Star Fox by Nintendo. but with modern 3d software like Blender you can make games that mimics this game's early polygonal 3d design up to the PS1

I remember that i played this on a 286 PC...back in the day 3D graphics were insane - looks like this HD version looks the same. But i remember i never finished this game. 1 it was very scary, 2 i had no idea how to solve the challenges - no internet guides back in the day, we used to get help from magazines or friends. If i remember correctly, you were able to choose a female character too. 286 could only run some really primitive early 3D games, 99% of the games were two dimensional - DOS era gaming
Ahhh, played this game back in the day for the 3do. Absolutely loved it, and don’t know why because I never beat it until I saw a walkthrough. Just wandered around aimlessly.
I mean, some of the things needed to do to beat this game I NEVER would of figured out. Throwing a statue at another statue, throwing an oil lamp at an evil tree, shooting an arrow at a painting down the hall…
Maybe more the sounds and music, but this tickled my nostalgia funny bone.

Not full on RE2/3 remake, but with updated graphics and controls to better reflect the scariness the story was meant to convey.
This feels more like watching a cartoon more than anything else. Not a bad thing, but not scary either..

FAIS MOI PEUR !!! Actually this came out on 3do first. I know cause that's why I bought the 3do, it was Nintendo vs Sega then, and then there was PlayStation vs 3do. 3do did great but PlayStation after a year finally took over. Man, good times! Nobody remembers this as when it 3do fizzled out it literally vanished!
@@jamesrountree5117 i own a 3DO back in 95 and i loved it! Its a shame 3DO's price range messed it up from being a contender during those days.... people dont realize this game was the first survival horror game and it came out on PC aswell. It was just great times...

I’ve never been able to play this kind of games. That’s why I see the playthroughs. I only played one mobile game of silent hill when phones still have buttons/keys 😂 and it was a very anxious experience

lol, this is funny! You must be a millennial. I feel old just to say no, Alone in the dark was out about 4 years before resident evil. I don't need Google to look this up, I was a teenager when I bought alone in the dark on release day! Good times! Resident evil one is a clone to alone in the dark! The date says it all. Stuck in mansion survival. Resident evil became a hit though! Alone in the dark was a PC game, however nobody remembers a little system called 3do, alone I.t.d. was on 3do first, PlayStations competition at the time.

The version I played had totally different music and lots of quiet bits with no music. This version sounds terrible.

I have almost finished watching this. Before I watched this I watched the remake.
I think the remake is a complete fabrication, a let down to Alone In The Dark.
I can see the connection between some of the monsters, but the story is where it's at and the story fails.
It could have been a thrilling mystery set in Derceto Manor, but the story of the remake is a hodgepodge.
I am enjoying the original Alone In The Dark very much. Thank you SHN.

After playing the 2024 game I don’t know how you can even call it a remake. Literally nothing I saw in this video was the same. None of the puzzles. This game doesn’t even have any of the characters from the 2024 game. You really are “alone” in the original. Layout of the house is different. They should have called it a spiritual successor or a new entry.
The intro and the final boss fight are the same… even the protagonist Name… it s a game from 1992 they had to change almost everything for new generation
