I am trying to go from Windows 7 to Linux. I have finally have Thunderbird installed and emails coming into the program from the server. I have still not been able to get the contacts into the program. I think the problem your having is that when you copy the backed up file in it has the file number from the old computer and when you installed the new program it give the profile a different name/number. The new program is looking for a new profile with the new name and not the old. I do not know how to correct this. I was wondering if you open the old profile and copied just the profile inside the file and than pasted it into the new folder it would not have the old name on the foilder?
I followed your wonderfully clear instructions to move my Thunderbird files to my new PC. I could see all my old profile in the new PC. But after I shut down my new PC and tried to open my Thunderbird again, I got a message saying that it could not locate my Thunderbird profile. Do you know how I can solve this problem?
KK Fung I'd try doing it again! But if you are trying to transfer to a newer is than win7 like win8 or win10 then there could be an issue with slight differences in operating system not matching find ! Out if anyone has that same problem! Google it and and see! Ok! Hope that helps!

The Thunderbird instructions regarding pointing to the profile folder are not necessary if you just copy and paste the profile content from the old computer into the existing default profile folder for Thunderbird in your new computer without changing its name.
It didn't work for me. I look in the new machine and the profile folder is there, but somehow the Thunderbird on the new machine can't find it. It's still showing no data, no email addresses, no emails, no nothing.

Get an energy efficient power supply and intel 7th generation i5 processor the new ones are called "Kaby Lake" or 6th generation i5 called "Skylake" these processors determine what motherboard and ram you get. Go with 7 gen processors and you can't go wrong for efficiency, but the 6th gen are not far behind! use "PCPARTPICKER.com to get compatible components for those processors you can't go wrong with pc part picker for getting the parts just right! OK!

Claudio Ferns try it again but del all the files u copied over and if you can manage it maybe uninstall thunderbird from new pc and try again some went wrong with registry I'd have a guess! but this process works if you are doing it in win 7 and not win 8 or win 10 and so may not work ! This method used to work flawless 3 years back, somehow the latest thunderbird may have changed the code somewhere. maybe I need to catch hold of the old setup file and try again. Everything is fine until I restart the thunderbird and lo all folders vanish without trace. Only way out is to overwrite the inbox and sent item folder manually. but there is no more organised order of folders and find command is a pain.
Hi Dhia, So check all connection to the monitor and the back of the pc it maybe that you connected the monitor to the wrong connection, if you have a graphics card then it must be connected to that graphics card! If that is not the problem then check all connections again! unplug all that you unplugged during cleaning, and plug them in again it maybe a loose connection somewhere. OK!
There is no way to check the mobo or graphics card without replacing them with known good hardware.So that you will know which is not working. are you sure that the monitor is working ? check with an other monitor that you know is working, because you said that power is on and is there hard drive activity? if there is it could be that monitor. Age is another factor that you should consider if it over 3-4 years old then replace some of the parts! after 2 years hardware starts to show it's age and if you use it pc a lot then that would be a big factor. OK!

Yes, but that's okay. Just copy all of the contents with a ctrl-A and copy, than paste into the new profile folder. It worked great.
