We don't give enough credit to Agadmator for finding creative titles for all his daily videos. Your title game is on point Agadmator, and it has been on point for a long time now.
Thank you, Agad. My local bartender asked me just minutes ago about the result of the first game between Louis Paulsen and Paul Morphy. Good thing I'd watched this video before leaving home...
This happens often to me at my tax office. Of course these were played before American income tax so we have to guess at how much would be owed from prize money
More than any Chess player, I like Morphy games the most. With my limited understanding and abilities, I can better understand his games and grasp the lessons within them.
Chess games back then were way more intense to watch than nowadays morphys attacking tactics were just insane! I'm glad that modern young players like Firouzia or Duda play in a similar aggressive fashion
You know the name, you know there’s a search bar- go fucking look it up your lazy ass self... Instead of someone else taking their time typing up a paragraph for you. You also get the benefit of getting your answer right away instead of waiting... Jesus fucking christ- here’s my paragraph to you; you’ve earned it.
my god. it's like a kid playing his dad. that zugzwang at the end. dude. guy's been dunking on him the whole time and then he decides to pull up and hit a 3.. messed up man..
@@ulyssesvercosa6196 i mean, you're not wrong, just put Carlsen next to Morphy without a bear, tilt his head a bit, and give him the morphy haircut and you got Morphy reincarnated
@@ulyssesvercosa6196 I'm not so sure. Morphy's shear dominance over the field was unequivocally more definitive than Carlsen's now-Carlsen is surely in a league of his own contemporarily, but compared to the relative dominance of their respective eras, Morphy has statistically proven to be in a stratospherically different class entirely compared to his modern 'equivalents.'
For the ones asking at 6:29, why not QxBf2. QxQ, Rf1xQg2, Re8 to e1, Rf2 to f1, Re1xRf1, KxR and RxR. Morphy would just end up in a rook vs knight endgame, if I wrote it down and calculated correctly. could someone also correct me if I am wrong, or if I wrote it wrong
I won a 'must win' rapid tournament game with the Evans gambit last week! After the game my opponent said that he knew that the Evans gambit was bad so had not really bothered to learn the lines, so I got several tempi and lots of development for an attack which forced him to give up a knight.
Dear agadmator, Never stop the Evans gambit joke but the original one pls it gets me everytime. I’ve seen almost all your videos and have improved a lot on these ideas in different openings. Love the channel, if I had the means to do so I would support with money. Sorry to hear about your mother in law hope your whole family and extended family are okay. Moment of silence for a great woman. Thanks you for the morphy series now. I can’t express how much these videos help us that can’t afford a coach or a computer. Your a great content creator. I’m sorry for your mother in law once again . Have a great rest of your day today friend.
Great saga! Exciting! I'm looking forward to many more games in this series. I guess you don't have to give Morphy the Morphy head - he already has one!
According to Lawsons book on Morphy, Thompson lost 5 more games to Morphy, but then declined taking odds (pawn+move) from Morphy - as nearly everybody else present in the tournament agreed upon in the next weeks of the tournament. Morphy exclaimed his disapproval in a letter to his friend Ch. Maurian back home in New Orleans. Because of this uncalled-for vanity of Thompson, Morphy refused to play him on even terms altogether and rather proceeded winning hundreds of games with other renowned NY players off hand to the tournament.
Antonio, talking about blindfolded chess, it will be good you include Migue Najdorf, he set world records for simultaneous blindfold games, 45 back in 1947; the record was broken in 2011
This game was from way back in 1857! Can't believe Chess is still alive and well to this day I wonder what Chess will evolve to in a Hundred years or so. Maybe add more Squares or Pieces in the game.
@@mistabonge, the advancement of A.I. technology is catching up though. Even beating Grandmasters of the Highest Level today. Simply adding more Variables such as Squares and Pieces will make it harder for A.I. to calculate moves

During endgame, when Morphy started pushing his a7 pawn, it was wise for Thompson to either push his b2 pawn one square ahead or move his knight to b7 square. It simply seems that moving the king repeatedly was pointless.
8:36 32. Nd8 wasn't "going after the pawn",it was escaping from trapped knight after Ke7 ..well not exactly trapped, but Nc5 is going directly to lost pawn endgame, since black king is way too close
If you want to make a video about a game in which Evan’s Gambit was played, I suggest a miniature in which a very young Mikhail Botvinnik declined to accept the gambit and lost quickly: Kan versus Botvinnik, 1929 USSR Championship.
Not really, you have to evaluate many possible future states, with no true deterministic method for making that evaluation. You might consider calculating them all but a player looking eight moves ahead is already presented with as many possible games as there are stars in the galaxy. And you can't brute force your way through them all as there are more possible chess games than the number of atoms in the universe.
When a Grandmaster holds an exhibition its againts lower ranked players. Paulsen invites Morphy. That is some 1857 rich jerk gentelman like shade throwing right there

So, if Morphy was playing black in this game, wouldn't that make it likely that the "When Morphy Bluffs" game (where he also had black) was actually game 1, and the "First American Chess Congress!" game (where he had white) was game 2?
I think it's just a "signature joke" of Agadmator, for no particular reason :-) And it's nowadays considered simply a bad move (a gambit too easy to refute).

There's no shame in losing to someone as strong as Morphy. There is shame, however, in delaying the match claiming you need rest.

At 7:48, why not Rh3 followed by QXQ?
At 10:30 - why doesn’t Thompson move the knight back and forth between A1 and B3?

Some times we should do unnecessary things, as others had no choice, only mistake.
