Hello friends. What has your experience been with using molds? Do you have and tips to share? Or maybe you struggle with using molds. I would love to know.
There is probably an ideal amount of time to wait before demolding. A time when the clay is dry enough to take out without tearing, but still moist enough to bend slightly without snapping. Might be a worthwhile measurement to take.
So question,.. Doesnt the oil coat the surface so paint dont stick?. I find if you just press the clay straight down into the mold instead of smearing it across, it seems to work better because as your smearing, your moving the powder out or along the design, and when you scrap more into the missing areas you have moved the powder out of those areas, so pressing and then trimming the edges I find is best.❤
Hi. Thank you for this. I will try oil. I use flour and sometimes paper clay does break and all. One tip I can give you. You take the paperclay out of the mould. Try this. Let gravity do the work. Place mould upside down and bend it, thus the gravity will pull down the paperclay from the mould. I hope I explain well. The IOD sisters do this if you need visual. This should work very well when you use oil. Can’t wait to try the oil. Great idea 💡 thank you Tiffany. 😀💜🙏
Does the residual oil resist the mediums you may use on these? Do you just clean the molds with soap and water to remove the residual oil in the molds?
I just checked and the piece is not oily at all. The clay must have soaked up all the oil. I think adding acrylic paint or gesso to it when it is dry will be perfectly fine. Thanks for that question.
I’ve tried both cornstarch and cooking spray and had the same results you did. But for whatever reason I prefer the cornstarch. I guess I just don’t like my moulds to get oily? 😂 Thanks for sharing!❤️
Definitely will give the oil a try, thanks! Do you have any tips to prevent (or at least minimize) warping when the clay dries? I expect it to warp a bit, I know that happens as the clay shrinks as it dries. But sometimes it bends so badly that it makes it very difficult to use it. I try to keep checking on it during the drying process to make it lay flat again, but that it very tedious. So if anyone has some tips it would be very appreciated.
Paper clay just warps unfortunately. I do like to put something on top of my designs and then 12 hours later I will flip them and put the stamping block or whatever back on top. It takes longer for them to dry but it helps. Thanks so much for watching!
@@Tiffany.Solorio I will give that a try, thank you! I’ve even tried leaving the clay in the mould til it’s dry, but that seems to make it harder to get out in one piece. So I will definitely try placing something on it as it dries. Thank you so much for responding.
Yes the paint sticks. I think the clay absorbs a lot of that oil... it isn't much anyway. Also acrylic paint is great to paint these. I hope that helps. Thanks so much!
What clay do you use? If you find that is isn't drying flat I suggest laying something on top. Nothing too heavy but enough to where is helps it not curl up when drying.
I have never used polymer clay. Do you make jewelry? Or other things? I might try to leave the paper clay in the mold for a bit to see if that helps too, Thanks for that tip.

These tips are just so helpful!! thank you for always sharing your knowledge and expertise!!
Thanks so much Keren!!
I'm just wondering - can you leave the clay to dry in the mold and then remove it? Can it even dry?

Thank you so much for that tip! I will try it!
@@Tiffany.Solorio your welcome Tiffany 😀💜🙏
I have some but not used yet 😬. Going to have a go now thanks. X
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
wouldn't the oil make the clay hard to paint after you apply it to your project?
I haven't noticed any problem.
I don't think your paint will stick over oil 🤔

LOL!! I don't mind too much! Thanks Shannon! I hope you are doing well!
It's kinda of good for some molds to have oiling a little . Keeps them in good condition
Hello. Is there any flexibility to the pieces once they're fully dried?
Not really. That's why people remove them before dry. They can be gently molded to an object when they're not fully dry.
Ooohhhh...i need this! What a good idea : ) cant wait!
I hope it was helpful! Thanks so much Karen!
Thank you so much for sharing this. :-). That have helped me a lot to get the perfect result.
Hello Tina. I am so glad this was helpful! Thank you for watching!
Does this work with the stamperia plastic molds too? Will paint and other mediums, work over the oily surface?
It may help a bit. Stamperia molds are their own best LOL. I love them but hate them hahaha.

Do you peel out the clay BEFORE it dries?
Yes I do. I hope that helps!
But if you want to paint the clay after using the oil, it won’t stick. Will it???

Hi Tiffany I have been doing what you show but mine come out lumpe and some even break. HELP

@@Tiffany.Solorio TY I tried the oil and it works much better. I use IOD clay from Prima.
I do not use anything. When I use polymer I bake it with the mold and let it cool off. Regular clay I leave it in for 2hrs or so.
I have never used polymer clay. Do you make jewelry? Or other things? I might try to leave the paper clay in the mold for a bit to see if that helps too, Thanks for that tip.
@@Tiffany.Solorio I have watched every video you made with mix media. I like canvases, boxes and bottles but I'm nothing like you 😀
@@Tiffany.Solorio When I use paper clay once they are dry I put a coat of mud pudge cause they are a bit brittle.
oil how smart thanks
Thank you so much!
