Was lucky enough to see this during it's original run. It's a brilliant play that managed to get football fans and theatre goers alike excited. Can't wait to see it again at The Prince Edward Theatre! :D

Saw it at the NT and tonight in the West End. It’s fantastic show. Not just about football, but about teamwork, fear, national identity. It’s funny, heartfelt, thrilling, moving and leaves you smiling.

I saw this play back in July and I had a total blast. The whole evening left me feeling proud of Southgate, the England squad and the National Theatre.
People who say that this play shouldn't exist because the men's team haven't won any silverware recently are exactly the guys who might be the most taken aback by this play.

Commissioning plays after reaching 1 final and 2 semi finals. This is why we can't be taken seriously

The funny thing is England had the stronger squad on all of those occasions but came out short due to lack of tactics and decisions during the respective games.

With respect, I think you completely miss the point of this play. It’s not meant as a tribute to England sporting success; it’s an artistic exploration of themes such as masculinity, national identity, competition, psychology, human relationships etc. There’s a famous play called Up N Under which is about a fictional pub rugby team. No one argues that John Godber shouldn’t have written that play because the Wheatsheaf Arms has never won the Challenge Cup.

To those who are sneering at this play, you are the ones who need to watch it the most to understand it’s real message.

Jesus Christ. This must be utter torture. I can imagine the nick of the gammon-reeking audience watching live theatre for the first time. No thanks.
