      Austin Anderson he advanced his position below the double yellow line. you’re only allowed to go below the lines (for this race) if you’ve been forced down there. however, it’s pretty clear that Hamlin was NOT forced below, meaning he won by breaking the rules. it’s just frustrating that it seems like rules only apply to certain drivers.

      @@mrhrggins he couldn't get back on until he got to the straight away because had he gone back up in the corner, the banking difference between the racing surface and the apron there would have upset his car, potentially causing him to wreck or at least slow his car down a ton to where he wouldn't be able to race for the win. And what's a driver's job? Race for the win.

    • @mrhrggins
      @mrhrggins 4 года назад +3

      Murph Muffin The drivers job is also to follow the rules. If he had to slow his car down then that’s his fault because he was on the apron. He tried to shoot a gap that wasn’t there and he continue to pass Cosmo W line. I’ve seen race car drivers penalized for less obvious in fractions when it comes to the double yellow line rule.

      Xfinity it wouldn't have made a difference. But when they crash on the last lap if nascar doesnt get the ok from the drivers involved they will throw it even if it's just a few feet from the line. Safety is more important. Or, if the crash looks like it's bad like in the xfinity race, they will throw it. It sucks, yes. But the drivers safety and response team us far more important than us seeing a good finish.

    Hamlin was entirely forced below the yellow line. Anyone saying otherwise is just plain ignorant. Hamlin went for a gap on the bottom seeing that both the 17 and 20 washed up the track mid corner. Buescher bounced off of Jones, slid back down the track (no way he could control that), and takes the line that Hamlin had already committed to. If Hamlin stays on track there, he wrecks the field from 3rd on back and is demonized for being a dirty driver. Instead, he ducks below the yellow with +5 mph speed on the 17 and 20, who have already scrubbed speed from sliding down the banking, with less than a few inches to spare between him and the 17.
    You can also argue that Hamlin should've came back up immediately after ducking below the yellow. However, doing so would've spun him out on the transition of the banking (see Kyle Busch saves at Daytona in gen 6). You have to wait for the track to flatten out of turn 4 before you can blend back in safely. Hamlin did so, without passing either DiBenedetto or Byron. The only true passes he made below the yellow, due to being forced down there, were below the 20 and 17.
    Hamlin's move is one of the greatest displays of awareness and timing that I have ever seen. It was NASCAR's call to say if being under the yellow warranted an automatic DSQ, but as set by the precedent of Logano being penalized 2 times for forcing guys below the yellow line earlier in the race, this year NASCAR took on a more lenient stance for the yellow line offender and more aggressive stance on the blocker.
    NASCAR needs to figure out their stance. When you look at 2008 and 2020, the calls are not uniform whatsoever. May that be a product of the differences in runs that the cars now than they have in the past or simply just the inconsistency of NASCAR, the sport needs to look into getting rid of the yellow line altogether.
