SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (エス・エヌ・ケイ バーサス カプコン エスブイシー カオス) is a 2003 fighting game produced by Playmore (now SNK) for the Neo Geo arcade and home platform. It was then later ported to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, although only the Xbox port was released in North America and both platforms were released in Japan and PAL regions.
It was the third arcade game in a series of crossovers between these two companies (see SNK vs. Capcom series) and the second developed by SNK (SNK previously produced SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium for the Neo Geo Pocket Color).
At that time, the meeting and competition between KOF and SF itself was a moving experience for me as an elementary school student.
And to think this is Violent Ken's first video game appearance until the Switch exclusive Ultra Street Fighter 2.
Here because this game got announced yesterday to be getting a re-release, it actually is already out on Steam right now and physical copies are coming out I think tomorrow, I grew up playing this in high school and spent hours playing it
These game was so underrated back then. Me being a huge kof fan made me love this game, it was a dream come true seeing terry vs Ken . I’m also a huge street fighter fan but that’s normal. Now all of a sudden everyone hyped for this game it’s funny seeing the difference.

I've always considered Violent Ken to be Orochi Ken in this game, also I remember exactly where I was in 2003 when I first heard about this game, still one of my favorite SNK fighting games for sure, brings back great memories of playing this with my cousin on the original Xbox

Isn't it Shin Akuma though? Or bosses dont count? If he isn't counted then yeah, maybe it's truly V. Ken. Though I'm inclined to Oni as well... A SF shoto having that air dash is absurd.

I would’ve named him Psycho Ken since he had psycho powers.
It's always funny to see the different and interesting (and sometimes bizarre) roster choices for this game. From not using Samsho poster boys/girls, to the point of inventing themselves an evil version of Ken... Just to use less roster ideas of CvS.
6:17 - Ever noticed that this game spelled his name wrong? They spelled it as "Genjyuro" instead of "Genjuro."
In their Hiragana text, the "Ju" text has a "Ji" text, accompanied by a small "Yu" text, which sometimes they forget to pronounce it as "Ju" instead of "Jyu". It could also be intentional.
I wouldn't mind getting this version in the new and current re release :) already got the game on PS4 / PS5

SNK V,Ken is better anyways. Evil Ryu is mostly Ryu tryoing to be more Akuma'ish, while not being as good as The Akuma

It was the last crossover game, after CvS2 and after the cancellation of CvS3... SNK needed to have taken the project more seriously imo. It was mistake to make it for the outdated Neogeo, it should have been for a new arcade system. Just like Capcom decided to switch to a newer arcade system (Naomi) to make MvC2 and CvS1-2. And SNK actually switched to the new system exactly (Atomiswave) in the following year (2004) to make KoF Neowave and KoF 11. So why not delay SvC to make it for the new system? The change would have allowed better audio and visuals and a bigger roster due to bigger memory capacity. Maybe even enough to make more and better cutscenes.

The engrish in this game is so strong. Especially the stage names lol Speaking of them, odd designs to them. Like TMNT Tournament Fighters (Sega ver) odd.
I wonder if the new port is going to correct any of this. I hope not.
Love this game but always was bothered with Ken's fight stance vs. his portrait art. His fighting stance is cocky and full of confidence, but his pre-fight banter sprites and talk make him seem animalistic like Orochi Iori, so it's conflicting. I would've expected his neutral stance to be more animalistic like Orochi Iori's in that case, or a bit more murderous looking, not him grabbing his belt like that. Or his portrait sprites to be more like a cocky and confident villain type.

Some stages and some new sprites actually look good and near the quality of KoF 00, that was the last fg of the old SNK before closing and peak of hardware optimization in terms of quality, for that type of game. (Like Garou, AOF3, Last Blade, etc can only look that way because they are small) The dialogues between the whole roster was an innovation at the time too. Now the rest, including the gameplay, is pretty rough.
