Mickey Rourke is one of the greatest actors ever. Angel Heart, 9 1/2 Weeks, Year of the Dragon, Pope of Greenwich Village, Barfly, Johnny Handsome, Rumble Fish, Diner, The Wrestler and Homeboy are all excellent performances. He’s so underrated and I think he deserves more respect today. He’s been forgotten again.
I wouldn't be so quick to count him out just yet. He's one of the few actors with depth who can completely immerse himself in a role, in a character. And his inner beauty and vulnerability are what audiences fall in love with. Stay tuned. He's far from over!
The train left a long time ago! Rourke once said in an interview: "The times when I rebelled are over. That cost me my career. Today I only do what they want me to do." But it is precisely those movies from his rebel days that have the rating: particularly valuable.
Yeah, this narrator really deserves to be on E television, gleefully talking about the downfall of a human. He also revealed how absolutely idiotic he is,
I knew Mickey, lived the same life as him in Miami Beach, till sometime after high school when he left town. Miami Beach street kids then worked in the hotel pools, surfed, spear fished and played in Flamingo Park baseball football basketball. As a teenager the activity was entertaining the tourist girls that came to try what they could not do at home. Every week one had a new girl. That was life in Miami Beach. As far as the Miami Beach high school girls, Mickey Rourke was nobody special with the girls because the school was mostly composed of Jewish girls and Mickey was an Irish Catholic. We didn't need the high school girls because we had a better looking tourist girl every week. It was one love after another. That was Mickeys' early life. In the end, what makes Mickey admirable to me, was his quality of never stepping back after a failure, but instead moving up. He failed as a baseball player (he was a very good player) and took up boxing, he failed at boxing, and he took up acting in plays in New York, he failed in New York and went to Hollywood and finally made it. Most men would have quit after the baseball failure and become forklift drivers talking the rest of their lives about how they could have been in the Major League had Coach Bertman not hated them (which he did not).
Man.. this was a great commentary of your early times with Mickey. A very unique and thoughtful perspective. I hope someday he gets a chance to read these words. Very inspiring.. and it seems that drive to try what’s next after failure is what stands out most. Thank you brother 🙏
His legacy is that he was a man who learned early on that he is the only one who climb out of hell and reach for the stars. His legacy is that he is entirely self made. His legacy is that he lived most of his life on his terms. Through the highs and lows he never changed. If anything he learned that everyone is an enemy, so keep them close. I have nothing but respect for everything this man is. He's the kind of guy the world needs not on the screens but in real life. Men who will stand up when they fall. Men who won't reach for an enemies hand just because they are down. And if his face is his legacy, then his face shows us what a true hero looks like.
At the end of the day, Mickey’s a legend! One of the best actors ever, and - in my opinion - probably the most naturally talented ever. Has classic films and classic roles. And you can see he’s a genuine person, a real man who was in a place (in world actually) full of fake people and bullshit… the rest, you can say what you want… We all gon die eventually, let the man live his life and take it easy (dude has had it pretty rough since the beginning)…
The final reflexion of this video is so superficial mickey rourke dont look like a young handsome guy forever, its like Marlon brando when loss youth and be very fat in last years the apparience its not everything, maybe in hollywood is so important this explaine the non talented clowns today superstars but 0 charisma
Rude thing to say about Mickey. He’s the truest and most human actor out there in my opinion. I also think he still looks great. His acting in Angel Heart was probably the best acting I’ve ever seen.
I blame Micky Rourke for make me gay 😢 he's the the first man I saw at 13 years old and felt weird in my stomach watching his movies growing up in the 90s what a gorgeous man that comes once In couple of decades.❤
i dont get it.. it says he would never smile on camera because of his missing teeth.. then 10 seconds later it shows him smiling and showing his teeth in a bunch of clips
That was an interesting take, I don't believe his legacy is a botched face. That's a personal opinion, not reality. All it does is show he is human and vulnerable, like we always knew
Nope. He a is washed out, freakshow.. He had talent once upon a time. But sometime after Homeboy,he lost it. He claim Harley Davidson & the marlboro man ruined him mentally, cause he felt like a sell out. But it's one of his best films. But to be fair he wasn't all that talent to begin with. He was mostly good in being noticeable in small side roles.
@@theodoreconstantini2548 IF you say so. But most of his young life, was spent being a side show in films. The Diner,Rumble Fish. He got big with 9 weeks with Kim Basinger.. That was the basic instinct of the 80s.Than he got some noticeable films Than he fades again.
Nice video production. This is one of my favorite video segments of the career of Mickey Rourke ever. You do a great job of detailing and analyzing his early career and ascent to stardom. And you do a very good job of detailing his numerous mistakes and missteps along the way. He had more than his share of mistakes as a Hollywood actor and avowed bad boy. However, your analysis falls short when you simply relegate him to the has-beens of Hollywood. The problem with your analysis, and it is very good, is that you fail to take into account the full measure of his great talent. That is, while you mention that had he died after the making of Angel Heart, he would have been as big as James Dean (agreed), he went on to make numerous more films. Not only that, he achieved a supremely redemptive and substantial film comeback with The Wrestler. His contribution to the field of acting is that while there are others who are arguably as talented amongst his contemporaries - Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, and others, Mickey Rourke's talent was very riveting. This is because he was as talented as those others and he was a matinee idol at the same time. He had those good looks coupled with his remarkable talent, and this made him very outstanding and notable. Thus, while his fall from grace was precipitous, his noted talent and comeback should not be overshadowed by some difficult years. This is an example of the life of a true artist. Take note.
Up there with the best of the best… Just like Iggy. An ultimate survivor that experienced the fullness of the lows along with the highs. Hyper talent, ahead of the curve, and just too cute to boot . I’d like to thank Micky’s dogs and Iggy’s parrot X Peace X
I hope we still stays into show Business I'm hoping he gets into directing movies with all of his experiences in the movies I think you would be one great director
Hollywood should’ve given all those rolls to Mickey Rourke and he would’ve actually done the acting properly but he gave them to people like Tom Cruise that suck at acting.
Any boxing fan with a basic keen eye who's seen one of Mickey's "fights" can attest he isn't a skilled boxer... Even in a match that he's booked to win. I'm talking about fake fights that he was set up to win. Very obvious. I'm not a "hater". I enjoy his work on the big screen. Very skilled actor on the big screen... just not in a boxing ring. He was a poor actor in it.
Have nothing but props towards Mickey Rourke. I could care less about his fame and high years. I'd just like to go out sailing on boat, have some drinks, and just chill.
I was obsessed w/ Mickey for a time and tbh his bad behaviour ruined his career couple w/ his plastic surgeries but he was untouchable for a short time
To me he’s better than Robert Deniro , he turned down Butch in Pulp Fiction … such a shame But Quinton Tarintino wouldn’t give up and got him in Sin City … and wow what a performance
I see that man brave enough to live. And his face...why not to be ugly, there is charm too. Is interesting to discover actor about I didnt knew nothing in fact.
The biggest failure from Mickey to me is he failed to have children.Mickey is a great person and he deserved to have heirs as beautiful as their father.
I must have lived under a rock because I remember hearing the name all the time, but I've never seen any of his early movies. Not until Ironman did I put a face to the name. I had no idea.
I forgot the name of that film ..Oh... Drunk? No? Where he was always drunk and tried to kick bartender's ass 😂. And suddenly turns out that he was a genuine writer. Oh, Mickey. We love you so much ❤️
Even at his peak he never had the huge hit that every actor needs to make them a superstar. That was the problem his movies were never huge hits, almost like he wanted it that way, which I don't think was was the case. But he chose offbeat roles.
A man who fights wits good end wrong, is like Jesus do, end all the people who suffer for the world, sensible people in a ocean of profit that don’t won’t you, won your talent or destroy him
wtf, so many lies 😡mickey never thought his face was the "golden ticket". instead, already in 80s he made movies like barfly and homeboy with quite an altered image. he never owned the status of "sex symbol" either. he turned down many box office movies and made arthouse movies instead, what no one will do if money is what they are after. sure he had his demons, and he fought them as he could, but he never gave up and never lost his integrity. that's much more than most of us can say about ourselves. 🤐

His scene the pledge was amazing too also his deleted scene in man on fire he acted circles over Denzel which is why it was deleted

That was pretty harsh. He’s his own man his life his mistakes.

"His legacy will be his damaged face"?!Speak just for yourself man!Reducing his career to just THAT seems very poor to me.
I was thinking the same. Like WTF 🤦♂️
Yeah, this narrator really deserves to be on E television, gleefully talking about the downfall of a human. He also revealed how absolutely idiotic he is,

Well said! This video is a weak load of surface garbage. Rourke is an acting legend! He was ALWAYS way more than a pretty face….

One of the best actors. Legend. The most beautiful man!
Before surgeries
was
Johnny Handsome, Homeboy, Angel Heart. Iconic films performed brilliantly! Can't understand why is he not used by Hollywood anymore
Because he is toxic to work with.

Plastic surgery, steroid use and hormone treatment do not make for a stable mind set .
