    Really cool review. For $280 now it’s a little high considering it’s also just a black box like you said. I would have liked more Saturn Games. Nice that you can edit the frame per second and resolution. I have an Odroid Xu4 with Emulation Station and can’t change any of those settings. Subscribed!

    I have a ps4 and recently bought a PX4 Emulation box for under 100 USD. and I honestly love it, currently playing metroid at the moment and also just beat Castlevania Aria of sorrow. Love emulation: Its cheap, accessible and you get to play great games and play games you couldn't afford as a kid, well in my case anyway.

    I considered buying the GT King but seeing I already had a great collection of ROM's decided to buy the Nvidia Shield instead. OK your not getting Emuelec and all the fancy graphics but to me the Shield is still the king of emulation boxes, plus you can switch easily from playing your games to watching RUclips etc. Loving your channel Techdweeb. It's the funniest real retrogaming / modern gaming show on RUclips. Nice work fella.

    Can anyone please confirm if there’s any lag between the controllers and the game play?
    I’ve purchase 2 Emulators already only to be really disappointed by the latency.
    Just want a machine that is super responsive.
    Also does this come with 2 controllers? Can I use wireless or plugin controllers with it?
    Huge thanks in advance for any replies/help

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад +1

      Were the emulators you purchased before android consoles? If so then you should be able to do something about the lag. Under the retoarch menu, in the settings under "video" make sure to turn "threaded rendering" off. That is a BIG help with the latency. You can also adjust the latency settings of the quick menu. Try setting the polling rate to early or late. And make sure you disable any shaders or screen filters. That should make it much more quick and snappy.

    Can you save state multiple games at once? and would you recommend the 256gb over the 64 or 128gb or is that just going to be padded with duplicates?

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад

      Yes, you can save multiple games at once (you can toggle the save state, and it's probably bound to a hotkey, but if it's not you can bind it yourself). And I personally WOULD go for the 256gb version over the smaller one, because for the extra price it's worth it to me not to have to NEED to copy over extra games. And the bigger size SD cards aren't padded with duplicates, you'll just get more of the higher end systems (the CD based systems, because those games are larger in size). Hope this helps!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад +1

      SUPER easy. It's all built into emulation station. All you need is a little usb splitter/hub/dongle and setup each controller through the frontend, they SHOULD automatically work in the games after that.

    oof... Id love this if Dreamcast worked right out of the box, better yet though, can this device load custom firmware/software? For example I got the Anbernic RG351V and I installed ArkOS on it when I got it. Could this device do something similar?

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад

      Hard to say. This runs android 9, so you can load up anything that runs on android 9, but for custom OS's like emulationstation you need to have a custom build that matches the exact hardware you're using. So I doubt ArkOS would work out of the gate unless they have a build specifically for the s922x chip. That's be awesome though!

    I definitely enjoy these videos. I have bought a few emulation boxes. I started with the original scx and i ended up bricking it then bought the cheapest one i could find for $37 shipped. It worked fine until the cheap SD card failed. Since i never learned to use a PC (i may the last guy) i couldn't copy the card so then i bought a different brand scx box branded "heynow". This one is the s905x3 and i can tell the difference. This one has been working good for over a year. I found a friend to copy the SD card immediately but this one is holding up. I'm happy with what i have but wish i would have bought the one in this video. After owning scx for so long i feel the extra power the king has is worth the money. The x3 actually does a good job but I definitely would prefer better. I honestly thought the king was the same box with a skull on the case. This video was very helpful thanks Tech Dweeb

    Hey @techdweeb - thank you for the video - very helpful! I am looking for some further help. I purchased this console, and am having trouble upscaling the PSX emulator. I can't get my PSX games looking near as good as yours. I have tried Rearmed - don't think there is a way to upscale in this emulator. I can find the upscaling portion inside the settings of Duckstation and Swanstation, but after selecting a higher resolution, and restarting the game, it doesn't seem to change - still seems to be low res. I have also tried shaders to make the PSX games look better with limited success. Would really love to see if you have some guidance.

      Thanks buddy! Um, I think any of these sorts of emulation boxes are fine tbh. They all have the same controllers, with a few exceptions. You can usually find the games lists online, or at least reach out to the company and ask for the games list (They have always provided it to me whenever I've asked). I'd go for something like this, or the Hyper Base FC, anything with a larger amount of storage (because that means they are more likely to have the full MAME romset). Primal Rage was one of my favourite fighting games on the SNES growing up, especially with it being one of the only five SNES games my grandmother had at her apartment (two of the other five being Caesar's Palace and Vegas Stakes... Vegas Stakes was genuinely really entertaining tho). When I played the game with my brother, we didn't even try to fight each other, we just tried to eat the humans.

    Hey Fellow Dweeb!
    I recently discovered your channel, probably via the algorithm of similar nerdophile interests I have. You are the King of my tech views lately, my liege.
    I've done emulation on my Mac/Windows/Linux builds - and, being honest, it is sometimes an overwhelming affair.
    I need to dig deeper into your retro-gaming catalog - but I love putting older systems to work running these ROMs from yesteryear...
    I bet you've done something I haven't poked at, but I'd like to see some retro-PC (2010-2016) retro-gaming... A way to save the current scrapyard of home PCs that are neglected, disrespected, and sent to a eCycle...
    I bet you've already done it... but... if not...
    ALSO I EXPECT RPG CONTENT OUT OF YOU AT SOME POINT - I know you haven't done this, but that much polyhedral virtue signalling... Hmmm... You don't even test RPG games much.... Shame.

Or simply can't, it's not something everyone has knowledge, time, patience or love for. Or they want something diminutive, invisible and completely silent. i am a bit confused- why call the Hyper Base King a "console" if it needs to be connected to a computer to work? Isn't a "console" able to play its games directly plugged in to a screen, without the need for a computer? I am just really confused with the vocabulary we are seeing and I am sure I am not the only one. Or maybe it looks at 5:00 like you are plugging it to your computer but maybe you are not ? Can you please clarify? it's awfully confusing. Thanks buddy

    But mines just erased everything by itself inc 37,000 games on the Ed card, I just switched it on one day got halfway through a game then the screen went blank….
    3/4mins later it all reset itself, no more program on the box and the as card was empty so these kind of box’s are so unreliable which I’ve heard it happens a lot with this cheap games box’s I payed over $100 for it😳👎🏻

    Your best off making a cheap pc and run batocera on it. For less then €150 you have yourself a pc which will run the games much better too. Besides if you own a batocera disk you can just copy it for other people. Even my daughters pc with a x5460 oc on a lga 775 board with 8gb ddr2 of ram and a hd 5770 1gb can run everything including ps2 upscaled.

It's for people who have no clue how to setup emulators and download games and just want to play f-zero and are willing to pay for the convenience. I know lots of people like that (of course, I always help them out with playing on their own hardware, I'm just saying the audience for this sort of thing is out there).
