I appreciate the advice. This is the first drill set, that I've owned. I'm learning new things everyday. I've never had my own set of cordless tools. I want to be able to minor repairs on my own house. I'm going to get a friend of mine to show me how to install a front door, so I can install future doors, like a new bedroom door. I would never touch the electrical panel, but i would install the Romex for the electrician to install it in the electrical panel. I learned how to lock my bit in the drill.
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
Such an eye opened for a novice like me. Have been using it all wrong and today while I watch the video, I am blown away! Lol I was so wrong about the settings 😅 THANK YOU
Been using drill for work going on 20 years, I know what setting I like for doing decking versus screwing in cabinet hinges, but I never thought about it too deeply. Thank you for the very detailed explanation of all of its functions. Dewalt seems to keep me happy from their corded miter saws down to the 20 volt drills👍
Yeah, I phoned Dewalt to discuss the issue I was facing (as below, the fancy e-clutch thingy was just not clutching out and was destroying my screws). I ultimately wasn't sure if using it with normal household size screws (think door hinges and such) was not something the tool was designed to do, or if it was just outright defective. Unfortunately I was left listening to music for 10 minutes and then someone just dropped the call without talking to me, so I ended up simply returning the item and bought a different one. The whole situation is just not acceptable for a premium-priced tool. If you can't make the e-clutch work for a low torque setting, you could have added what is a relatively inexpensive mechanical clutch instead, and left the e-clutch just for drill mode as a safety mechanism.
I bought a DCD999 after years of happiness with the 18V about a year back and I've noticed the torque only works intermittently. I returned the first one I bought for another and it seems to be a design problem - just wondering if this issue is common or if mine are just from a bad batch. Let's say torque/clutch is set to 1. Minimal resistance should cause the drill to slip. If I set it to 1 and hold the chuck with my hand, it will slip on the first press of the trigger. If I press the trigger again it will turn with full force and not slip. I've learned the hard way a couple times for more delicate work, where I set a low torque setting and turned a screw way too tight when the it refused to slip.
I loved the 18-volt version of this drill. When the 20 Max came out I quickly picked it up and was disappointed that it didn't have an extra bit holder like the 18-volt did. Still a pain in the ass to this day to switch between bits.
Can someone give a correlation of the torque settings to ft lbs or nm? So what does a 1 equal? or 11 equal? This will depend on speed in 1 or 2 or 3? This is regarding a DCD995 20vmax XR
hello i have a question, when i have the drill in hammerdrill mode and the speed setting at 3 after a few seconds of use the drill speed trips from 3 to 2. Would you know why that is ? hoping you can help
With my DCD991 drill/driver if using the 1st speed for lowest RPM's there is no way to adjust the clutch collar to prevent damage to a screw as the drill works as though in Drill Mode 100% of the time. It is why I needed to buy a separate Bosch driver for use with fasteners. No such issues with the older 18v models from DeWalt but something that was introduced with their 20v models.
Yes 100 Percent on this. If I want a lite torque setting you have to be in speed 3 . Which is ridiculous when using a small screw. It's a good drill but you will need another one as well for smaller jobs.
Probably not, as it varies the speed, or RPM's, which has nothing to do with torque. Torque is a measurement of Force times distance or F x d (hence Newton . meters) The switch on the top adjusts the Torque.
I bought a 996 hoping it could work well as a driver, but the clutch is too strong for normal household applications and always destroys the screw. It also doesn't stop the tool at all if I use it at speed 1. I was forced to buy a separate screwdriver tool which was pretty disappointing
I have a dewalt 12” compound flexvolt saw that dose a great job cutting wood but after spending $130 on a metal cutting blade i find it is just to fast to cut metal, it just burns the blade up can the saw be slowed down to around 1800 rpm if so please tell me how
I wish you would explain the numbering system if any exists? A newbie, or somebody who has been out of the trade for a long time can be overwhelmed trying to figure out the differences in the model numbers. I have found it confusing to determine light-duty, prosumer, and professional tools.
my drill wont change its part 48 i think it only drills out and when i try to press on the arrow point out it feels stuck and wont change. it will only drill out screws not in please help
@@beeps7 it's possible you're using it different from me, the time I got smacked I was driving a big grk lag screw into a green log and it bound up. After putting the handle back on no more problems.
I have a question on the dewalt cordless drills. The battery and charger unit in the USA market are they 110 volts only or are they 110 v to 230v for international use as well. I live overseas and need to be carefull buying here cause of fakes. Thanks
I’m a drill idiot. I needed instructions how to tighten the end thingy around the drill bit (in my case a paint stirrer attachment). Didn’t get that part here. It’s not you, it’s me 😂
I just brought a Dewalt DCD796 Compact Hammer Drill Driver, it arrived today. I thought it was American made, but it's made in China, my heart sank when I saw that...guess what, the chuck wobble is so bad it shakes my hand when using it ! I thought DeWalt was supposed to be good!
I just purchased a DCD709C2. My first cordless. Great tool. Now if I could only learn to use it properly. You talk about high speed applications and low speed ones; but you don't show any examples. Grrrr! I know that drilling through wood, for example, in most cases, you want high speed and no torgue. However, it's the opposite when going through metal, where I always use slower speed and high torque. According to your vid, all you do, is just set it to drill. You will break a lot of bits that way. So confusing. Maybe next vid, you could actually demonstrate the different applications and settings.
When is Dewalt making the 23g 20v ???? Please I need to know ! I love Dewalt !.... Milwaukee made a 23 g ugh please Dewalt don’t make me buy Milwaukee 😞
Man this shit is confusing. I bought a holikme cleaning shower brush set. And I got the Dewalt 20v Max kit. None of the bits are going in the drill. The cleaning brushes can’t fit in there from either. Wtf
The manual is TERRIBLE!!! I just want to get a Dewalt drill bit Flextorque out of my DCF 840 DewALT. I've searched and viewed umpteen videos, but none helped., The thing is brand new, and I can't use it. So frustrated.
I’ve had my DEWALT xl drill for a year now. Drilled 4 holes to put in hinge bolts and the torque clutch feature has already been destroyed and has rendered the drill useless. I would not recommend buying this drill. It breaks too easily.
Finally a real explanation of the torque and clutch settings on my drill. Especially the drill and hammer settings. Thanks so much.
Glad to see Dewalt putting out videos more frequently. Good stuff...

Thanks just bought my first drill!
Great video. I was wondering what the clutch collar was for. Fantastic information! Thank you!
"Refer to the instruction manual", uh it doesn't give you any valuable information about the settings, that's why I'm watching this.
so true, their tools are great but manuals are very bad
Exactly!

I hear you, you can drill holes with the clutch on 1
Great. Very simple and to the point. Good job

So I should have bought this as my first drill for sure. I have a beautiful Dewalt collection, however I should have gotten this one first for sure.
nice and easy explanation - thanks
Perfect presentation, thank you

Hello , are the gears/speeds usable in the hammer, drill and drive functions? Thanks
Can someone give a correlation of the torque settings to ft lbs or nm? So what does a 1 equal? or 11 equal? This will depend on speed in 1 or 2 or 3? This is regarding a DCD995 20vmax XR
they don`t represent anything no clutch setting on any drill represent anything it is just a scale like 1 being loser and 11 being tighter.
hello i have a question, when i have the drill in hammerdrill mode and the speed setting at 3 after a few seconds of use the drill speed trips from 3 to 2. Would you know why that is ? hoping you can help
Greetings from Qazaqstan
Which is the fastest (impact driver) drill? I'm looking for dremel level speed. Thanks

Helpful vid, thanks DeWalt. Quick question, are the clutch collar increments in newton meters or just on a general scale?
they don`t represent anything no clutch setting on any drill represent anything it is just a scale like 1 being loser and 11 being tighter.
How do you shut off the led light?
where cna we find ur cabinets
Straight to the point. Thanks pretty boy
My drill torque collar won’t set to hammer setting also here in the UK they don’t supply a side handle more cost cutting I suppose
Great explanation
That was helpful! Thank you!
Does it come with those snazzy gloves?
are those numbers 1-11 equivalent to newton-meters of torque?
Probably not, as it varies the speed, or RPM's, which has nothing to do with torque. Torque is a measurement of Force times distance or F x d (hence Newton . meters) The switch on the top adjusts the Torque.

I know what you mean I have drilled holes with the clutch on 1

DeWALT💪💪💪
Brand new DCD800 out of the box, the collar clutch will not move. This is the second drill I purchased same problem, i returned the first one
How did the light on the drill flash at 2:01 with no battery?
I had a friend order it and post to me in the Caribbean use it to drill one hole and now it just clicks what is wrong
If I pull the trigger quickly, the drills eases up. If I pull slowly, it works fine.
Is this normal
after smacking myself in the face a few months ago, I finally learned the handle lesson 🤣
Bought this hammer drill about 3 years ago. Left the handle in the bag and have never used it.
@@beeps7 it's possible you're using it different from me, the time I got smacked I was driving a big grk lag screw into a green log and it bound up. After putting the handle back on no more problems.

Dewalt robustness guarantee 👏👏👏
Good shit Brandon
Torque dial. Is that 1 = 1 foot-pound? 1 Nm? 2 equals to 2 units of that? What?
I would love to have heard what this guy was saying but unfortunately, your sound guy was much more interested in the sound of adjusting the clutch.
I KNOW IT RUINED IT ALL, THE SOUND OF THE DRIVER IS UNACCEPTABLE I'M READING TO SEE WHAT THE VIDEO WAS ALL ABOUT.

You would think a company like DeWalt could produce more professional videos. Sound is horrible...
Kind of a dumb thing to cry about.
And they don't show you how to change the bits 😢

Same feelings
this video looks like it was filmed in 1990 lol
1= high speed (low torque).
3= low speed (high torque).
1-5= stops easily for screws.
6-10= stops less easily for screws.
Drill icon= never stops (for drilling).
👍👍👍
Great

It would be nice if you'd respond to viewer questions. Thumbs down for this.
Is he worried the cheap chinese tool is going to explode not even using it and that's why he's wearing the glasses?
Stop wasting our time...why not do a video on how to unstick the dang chuck on a brand new drill! Frigging garbage!!!
thats too much money for just one drill and battery ... thats crazy
My speed wont go into 1
ta av brillorna
Never going to trust a guy who wears safety gloves and goggles to do a demo 🤣
Cough Cough
Fresh out of the box and the clutch collar won't turn.
love it
