    Excellent listening and reading others' comments. At age 70 in 2021, I had my 3rd brain surgery. This one to have a VP SHUNT installed. The day after surgery, I was a new person. Despite foot neuropathy, my walking and talking improved. My incontinence also slowed down, although it might be back now. One of the best outcomes is that my memory has returned. I can remember entire paragraphs in conversations. As for subdural hematomas, I had a bad one in 2020, with a drain implanted for 7 days until the blood was gone. Before, I could only say the word "I ". The day after drain implantation, I was able to speak again, as well as pass all tests of the hospital staff. I was allowed to walk around the hospital floor without accompaniment, using my "Upwalker".
    When it comes to my brain, I always want to know more. 1st neurosurgery, 2019 for meningioma behind my left eye against optic nerve. I am fairly blind in that eye. Thank you.

    I'm a little frustrated... I had a shunt placed when I was TWENTY! I'm now 37- pediatric or elderly patient concerns are not super helpful to me. It's so great to know that there are enough people with Hydrocephalus to warrant conferences and an association, but where are people in my age range????

    Thanks for this information. My husband, age 72 has NPH, he will be going in next week for his 3rd placement, started in belly, moved then 4 months later to atrium, now is is not working at all so that is why he goes back in to find out what malfunction is next week. He was diagnosed April 2018, it is now April 2019.

      Hello, would you say that it was worth going through with the initial procedure? Did you see marked improvement?

    • @moorejazznow
      @moorejazznow 5 лет назад +2

      Initially I saw an improvement to his old self after 1st shunt placement, However, after about 3 weeks it was back to pre shunt symptoms. the second one, hardly any improvement. Yesterday we had 3rd one done, the neurosurgeon did find a slice that did not allow proper drainage .in the shunt that she cut off and fixed. He was fine after he immediate placement in observation, however, after about 15 minutes he appeared really confused. We ended up spending the night in the hospital. I am hoping all this confusion may be result of anesthesia, he can go along for a few hours fine, and suddenly gets very irritable. So now we just wait and see the results after surgery healing. I was so hopeful that this would be the answer that so many people have found after the shunt. It is still a wait and see for me. @@TwasSoBrillig
