Would you guys like another update video? It has been some time since I have made one, there has been a lot going on lately. A lot of trial and error with dieting, supplements that have worked and not worked, day to day things I do to make life easier as well as things that are just simply in the hands of the disease. Let me know, I would love to hear feed back. I Can get something uploaded this weekend if it is something you guys would like to see. I think it would give great insight in to an overall, general basis of things you all could try, and look out for.
I would love an update! I am 6 days post-op from my reversal. I was diagnosed with UC and had my colon removed. I’m having good and bad days wondering if this was the right decision.
Hi Steven, I’m so glad I found your account as this is helping me get prepared for my upcoming reversal surgery. I was diagnosed in November of 2021 with UC and ended up being hospitalized 2 times due to flareups. I had an infection during my second flareup that occured right around Christmas this year which forced me to get rushed into surgery to remove my colon. I have had the ileostomy since Janurary 21st and things are going well but I am looking forward to getting my reversal done. It’s very tough being 20 years old going through this, I had to drop work, school, working out and playing hockey. I really appreciate the videos you post and I’ll be watching all of your videos until the surgery date (hoping for November 2022). Thanks again!!
Dude I'm day 1after my reversal and I realize how traumatizing the last almost 2 years has been from all the surgeries, dehydration, ER & hospital trips, ghastly weight loss, diminished life quality, decreased inner vitality, emotional & mental abuse from this illnezz has been, and it's so phucking depressing. I'm right there with you!
Im glad I came across this video. I have had my ileostomy since April and my reversal is the 1st week of July. This was due to my appendix rupturing while 6 months preggo in August. I’ve literally been in and out of hospitals since August of last year doing 2-3 weeks at a time. I hope all is well! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Sorry you've experienced so much pain. My husband has rectum cancer surgery in 2 weeks. He's terrified of having a permanent bag but a reversal sounds really rough. Thank you so much for your information! I can't begin to say how much videos help. I'm trying to learn as much as I can to help him through this. Wish you the best ❤❤
I hope his surgery goes well, and praying it doesn’t return. 🙏 Good support any way you’re able is big. I went through mine alone, definitely would’ve made it easier just having someone to lean on mentally at times.
I had surgery in 2001 in India. Now post 22 years I take good care. I don't eat gluten. I eat fiber, I eat kefir, take probiotic. Drink clean water and sleep on time. I avoid caffeine, cola soda, hot milk and alcohol. Now I am fine. Last 3 years no gluten at all. Avoid gluten and beverages like coffee, soda soft drinks and alcohol
I had my iliostomy reversal exactly one week ago too. The surgeon left the hole open (just stitched the muscle) to close slowly. I have to pack it with iodine strips. The doctor says it will close completely in two weeks but I think thats optimistic. Im thinking more like 6 weeks. Good luck you bud. You look pretty young to having colon issues
I had surgery to remove a section of bowel and bladder as i had a fistula linking them. Ive had a temporary bag since then, 21st March. My reversal surgery is booked for 13th July so in 3wks from today. I absolutely can't wait to get rid of the bag. Luckily so far I've had no leaks or disasters but its very restrictive and the stoma hurts almost all the time. The pain ranges from tolerable to feeling like someone is twisting a knife in my side. Its just got to go.
@@michaelsmith935surgery on Christmas day? Man, that's rough. I hope it all goes well for you. There's quite a lengthy recovery period post op. I was in hospital for 11days and off work for 2months. Just keep your chin up and push through. The stoma reversal was nothing in comparison. 4days in hospital and I was walking about within an hour of the op. It's well worth having it done though. I'm now back to riding my mountain bike XC every evening and doing moderate mat work, all completely pain free. I feel like a new man. As for the scars, I wear them with pride. They show I've been through the wringer and made it through to the other side.
@@forlorndream1400 Christmas day is Mon 25th. However, I get your point. The day after is xmas is not much better. Thanks for the awesome feedback and encouragement. Life is extremely difficult at the moment.
I had my J-pouch surgery and reversal in 2001. Fast forward to 2020 and I’m constantly anemic due to blood loss. Began getting infusions every 2-4 months (depending) approx 2 years ago. This disease truly SUCKS. I wish you the best. You look young. I was 25 when I had the surgery and will be 45 next week! I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy. I hope that it keeps getting better for you 🙏. Despite everything, I do NOT miss my ileostomy!
I am 25 as well. 24 when I got Ileostomy, 20 when I was diagnosed. Glad you are doing well 🙏🏽 I may be considering some type of medication here soon due to UC symptoms returning.
This month in April 2022,wlll have a stoma reversal after 1 year. I’ve got a hernia around the stoma. How long until the large top areas stop poking out? I’m very embarrassed to go out public. I used to take pride in my body looks.
Hi Steven, I had UC for 10 years, 3 months ago I had my colon removed, the more I listen to those who had the reversal of the stomie The more I think I’m just going to keep my stomie. I don’t feel going through what you are going through. Take care and I wish luck.
Keep in mind my case of UC was extremely severe, while my issues have followed suite, majority of cases may not be like mine. For the most part I live fairly normal aside from the daily pain and struggles of "flare ups" throughout the day. Hope all works out for you!
Just watched your video of your first week post op ileostomy reversal. I am one week post op and feel exactly - I mean spot on - the same way ! The pressure is almost more than I can handle. If my surgeon said today lets go back to an ileostomy I would probably say yes. My hospital stay was good and was up walking and GI soft diet after day 3. Please share how long it took before the pressure went away and what you did for for the pain...... I feel like the early stage of my UC diagnosis. Any discussion would be appreciated! Stay Well, Debbie
Still having intense pressure feeling. Was diagnosed with pouchitis a few weeks ago but have since lost medical coverage so I haven’t been able to go back for a follow up since I’m still having pain.
In my country, ileostomy reversal surgery requires 7 days in the hospital. I just got home. Today is PO day 8. They gave me only water for 6 days. The 7th day, I was allowed foods without and fiber.
Just got my reversal not 2 weeks ago. I have pressure in the same place but it’s almost like severe intense muscle pain. Hurts to sit and stand. Did you have this pain? It seems like harder or larger stool or something stuck and I can’t release it (sorry for the graphic words)
Hi, I hope you’re feeling better. I am one week out from stoma reversal surgery. It is the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my entire life. The wound for me is on my lower abdomen. My surgeon had to use internal staples and sutures as well as external sutures. The pain is like a hot knife being stabbed and drawn across my lower abdomen. no matter what they gave me for pain in the hospital helped. I just got home this afternoon and not because I’m cured etc. but because I insisted. Things aren’t better in a week and of course I will call my surgeon or go to emergency care. I think it’s different for everybody. If it’s doneStrictly with lasers the pain is a lot less. And the recovery is much shorter. Are you in the states? I’m in Canada. Our healthcare system although pet free, is like it is free….it’s terrible
Oct 16 Shot 11 times Ileostomy reversal Jun 20th Pain Need tips badly Update: if you feel uncontrollable pain for more than 5 days I recommend going to the hospital ; After a few scans it was determined under my previously ostomy incision, my bowels were indeed strictured (nothing could flow through) and after a second laparotomy exploration, on July 1, everything was fixed
Man i went into to have a reversal but woke up to being reconnected but still a bag for a few months. Which sucks. Congratulations to u tho. So have my old wound open being packed just sucks man
I am about to have my reversal. I have had my ileostomy for almost 8 weeks. Had sigmoid colon resection for perforated diverticulitis and peritonitis 😩
Hi! Steve, I had ulcerative colitis since 2017, end up with ileostomy bag on 2020, had j-pouch surgery on 4th of march 2022, and now on June, I will be doing reversal of ileostomy surgery. I am a little nervous. How are you doing now? How often do you need to go to the toilet? How about tolerating food?
Toilet breaks depends on what I eat. If I eat bad, I go more. Right now I’m down to about 3-4 times a days with a fairly strict diet. At first, you may be going quite a bit, but it’ll be ok. I was at 9-10 times a day for 7-8 months. Only thing you can really do is try foods and see what works and what doesn’t for you, a lot of the foods on the list if don’t eat, I am able to eat and Vice Versa. Exercise and diet are the main things that helped me. Water intake, adding a little bit of salt to the diet to help retain water, clean/lean low fiber foods (fiber makes you poop, less fiber less poop but not too little of fiber), and some sort of exercise I.e walking around your neighborhood, push ups/sit ups, anything to get the heart rate going and promoting recovery in the body to help the wounds heal.
I'd say we all are going to be different. We are all going to need to be positive, moving forward. I had a perforated colon, septic, an ostomey since August6, a reversal 3 mo later Nov10. I do fast physical production maintenance at a factory but don't think I'll be 100% what I 2as. If I'm 90% most will be happy, if I'm less than 80%, I may have to career change? I just need less small poops to equal 1 regular poop. My normal is 2 to three regular poops a day which now equals 20 to 30 painful tiny poops. Maybe my stomach and whats left of my colon need to stretch???. Strange how every time the area is disturbed, something changes
I did have an operation and have the ostomy bag at this stage. I lost my job because of this and up to date I'm living one day at a time. Have to go for Loopogram end of January 2023. I don't know what to do
Are you in the U.S.? If you were let go strictly due to your health issues, that’s illegal and I’d seek out legal representation if I were you. Aside from that, taking it one day at a time is your best bet. Stay mentally strong, the body follows the mind. You got this 💪
It’s been 2.5 weeks since my reversal. Dude! The recovery has been brutal compared to my first surgery. What did you use for rash/burn? Also, when did you start working out again? After how many weeks? Thanks!! Love your vids
If you mean rash/burn around your bum I used desitin ointment after every bowl movement. I just put some on some toilet paper and spread it around (sounds kinda weird but it helped me). After my last surgery I didn’t lift weights for about 3 weeks. But I was waking on the treadmill as soon as I was able to walk comfortably. For me it was about a week or so.
Somebody give me something to not be scared about. The big hernia under the stoma, Ive had diarrhea for 10 days because I started drinking wine again. My cat died. My partner abuses me, and after a full year of skin healing from sepsis on my bum they are ready to reverse and mend the hernia. Please tell me what I a supposed to expect? Ive got no family support or friend support.
I'm 9 days post reversal. My doctor said absolutely no exercise except walking, for 2.5 months. Please be careful. You can end up needing more surgery to fix a hernia.
How are you doing now? After the reversal? I’m getting my Illio reversal soon. Just wondering what life looks like now for you after reversal? Example bowel control, etc?
At this present moment I’m dealing with minor ulcerative colitis like symptoms, as well as possible pouchitis. I won’t know for sure about the pouchitis until later next week. So far, it hasn’t been too terrible. I personally have great control over my bowels, my rectal muscles are working great. I do go pretty frequently (6-12 times a day depending how bad my flare up decides to be). Other than that it’s been pretty good. One thing I would highly suggest is absolutely staying away from anything even remotely spicy (it burns really really bad). I have a follow up video in the works right now, should be up in a few days. It will explain all the positive and negatives I personally experienced up to this point.
I had a colostomy, then a colostomy reversal plus ileostomy. Now it has been 2 months since ileostomy and I am due for ileostomy reversal surgery. My recovery from both the colostomy as well as ileostomy was quite painful and long. I had ileus (bowel paralysis) a few days after my ileostomy. ~Now everything is fine. There is no pain and I can eat what I like. I am concerned about what side effects there will be after the ileostomy reversal surgery. Is anal incontinence a concern after ileostomy reversal? Or will things get back to normal ever? How long does it take for things to get back to normal? Also, how long after ileostomy reversal surgery can one join back office (work)?
@@lekshmymoney6970 I experienced incontinence for the first few months or so, but it was only in my sleep. While awake I was ok, just super painful when I needed to use the restroom (still this way), but total loss of control only came about while I was sleeping. As far as recovery, it’s different for everyone unfortunately. There’s no clear cut healing time. For me, I’m still “healing” even though I’m diagnosed chrons disease with pouchitis now. It does get better, my advice would be eat as healthy as you can, rest when you can, and try to pay close attention to when you eat and what causes pain.
Hi Steven, I'm 10 mths post ileostomy surgery because of UC. I'm due to get 2nd phase of 3 a step operation to form my jpouch soon. My question is, was your reversal worth it or is the bag better. Thank you in advance.
There’s pros and cons to either or. Just depends on your perspective of the Ileostomy. I personally didn’t like looking at it, dealing with it, smelling it, waking up in poop, etc. So, for me, I’d rather deal with the pain, inflammation, limited diet, sleepless nights, etc than look at the Ileostomy bag to be completely honest.
Hi Steven, thank you for such a quick response. I would be of the same mind set as yourself regarding getting a J-pouch. I was constantly told by my GI that I'll get my life back if I opted to get an ileostomy/J-Pouch. I've been miserable since I got my ileostomy, I feel like I traded one problem (UC symptoms) for a whole set of different problems that come with an ileostomy, now I'm close to getting J-Pouch formed and to be honest the feedback from ppl with a j-pouch does not sound much better. Thank again for your feedback, take care and God bless.
@@michaelquinn5064 no worries. What I was told leasing up to my decision was “you won’t know until you try it… and you can always go back” I think if your doctor feels comfortable with the risk to reward ratio, give it a shot.
@@ronnatobin3758 for me yes. The bag was difficult to work around, made work harder, while it did help me feel a lot better my quality of life isn’t bad enough now to want to go back to the bag and it’s allowed me to continue my physically demanding job with minimal issues.
I’m still dealing with cuffitis issues. Lack of blood circulation in the rectal region causes significant pain. Severity changes day to day and even hour to hour for me, but for the most part I’ve just learned to ignore the pain as best as I can since there’s nothing that can be done for circulation problems. Also to clarify circulation issues can come from scar tissue build up, which everyone’s body builds scar tissue differently so my pain may not be someone else’s pain is what I’ve come to realize.

I had my reverse ileostomy 1 week ago. Things are starting to get back to normal although I have pain at the site area. My problem is that I’ve had no advice on diet. Yesterday I had a big dinner, potatoes meat and a creamy sauce. Later I had Cheese and onion sandwiches ( 4 slices ). I had a terrible painful nights sleep being bloated. Got up this morning thinking OMG I’m constipated so I had a hot shower which works great for me against this. Shortly after things started to move but it was diarrhoea again. I’ve been told not to eat fibre , or just very small amounts. I’m really scared this will cause constipation which is not good after the op as pushing is very painful at the injury site Any advice would be great 😊
I personally don’t eat onions because they make me feel how you just described. I also don’t eat very much fiber, I have no problems going. I’m down to about 4-5 times a day when I stick to my diet. When I deviate from my diet that number rises to 6-8 times a day. My diet is clean and lean for the most part.
@@ReformedSteven thanks for replying. My nurse came in today to dress the wound with gauze. In France where I live the nurse will come everyday until the wound has completely closed. We have excellent treatment here. She told me not to eat anything that produce gas , so the onions were a huge mistake. Another’s friend who had a similar operation to me told me to stay completely off fibre and my poop should return to normal in a couple of weeks. Looks like you’re have a far worse time than me I’m so Sorry to hear that

Ive got no family support or friend support.
Are you ok now?
Ohh I didn’t realize you have a j pouch?
Mariah Ali yes I do. Reversal requires jpouch
How are you now @mariahali8121
Hi Steven,
I'm 10 mths post ileostomy surgery because of UC.
What I was told leasing up to my decision was “you won’t know until you try it… and you can always go back”
I think if your doctor feels comfortable with the risk to reward ratio, give it a shot.
Was it worth to have the reversal surgery.
@@ronnatobin3758 for me yes. The bag was difficult to work around, made work harder, while it did help me feel a lot better my quality of life isn’t bad enough now to want to go back to the bag and it’s allowed me to continue my physically demanding job with minimal issues.
I can’t stand illostomy having reversal but have other issues. Can u help with questions ?
Sure, ask away
Fr my brother all facts
How are you doing now?
I’m still dealing with cuffitis issues. Lack of blood circulation in the rectal region causes significant pain. Severity changes day to day and even hour to hour for me, but for the most part I’ve just learned to ignore the pain as best as I can since there’s nothing that can be done for circulation problems.
Also to clarify circulation issues can come from scar tissue build up, which everyone’s body builds scar tissue differently so my pain may not be someone else’s pain is what I’ve come to realize.
Did the pain get better?
Unfortunately no
@@ReformedSteven got me worried, mines in 3 weeks
Everyone is different man. From what I’ve been told the post op issues I’ve been having are fairly rare and don’t effect most people.
@@hijeans1103 don’t be nervous keep positive I wouldn’t listen to all these stories they don’t help you I never had pain I was lucky my reversell was 8 months after and I was brilliant Judy keep positive and good luck 🤞

I’m really scared this will cause constipation which is not good after the op as pushing is very painful at the injury site
Any advice would be great 😊
I personally don’t eat onions because they make me feel how you just described.
Looks like you’re have a far worse time than me I’m so Sorry to hear that
Feel better
Thank tou
Go to hospital this doesn’t sound ok?
