This is genius and so simple all at once. I am doing this to our bathrooms ASAP! We have termite swarms in south Louisiana and I’ve been trying to think of a solution. They get all over 2 of our bathrooms. Thank you so much!!

Thank you for the video; here's my tweak on your great idea: instead of putting the screens at the end point in the bathroom, and to keep the pests from crawling all the way down the duct run, put the screens at the start in the attic: locate the circular flex ducts that are typically located on your soffit vents (or are routed through your roof decking), cut mesh surrounds that go over the top and sides of the duct, and tape them in place with silver foil vent tape; then perform periodic cleaning or replacement of the screens.

Alternatively, cut slightly larger circular pieces and caulk to adhere them to the sides of the duct.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much.

Thank you for this demonstration. Going to do that with our exhaust vents today.

So I like the ideas about a screen on the inside of the vent, however screens need cleaning. I know you mentioned it, but I don't think caulk there is the best idea. I would probably put fairly wide foam seal up there instead and rely on the tension of the screw or springs to seat the edge deep enough into the foam to handle the rest. I wouldn't want to keep breaking a caulk line to perform regular maintenence on the screen cleaning.
Also, my vent actually has a light in it as well which does complicate things some since the vent intakes are placed on the sides of the fixture.
But thank you for the ideas.

Can this be done with a vent -light combo

I've been looking for just this fix for my bathroom vent. At certain times of the year we get tiny bark beetles from trees nearby. I've solved the problem temporarily by using veil fabric and taping around the sides of the vent cover, but that's quite ugly. Thank you for this tutorial.

I would think the exhaust vents could use this, not at the fan motor itself. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You ended the video mentioning three primary ways insects come into your home but not what they were. What are they?

    • @sunkenpanic
      @sunkenpanic 4 года назад +1

From my experience, Doorways (if you have bad weatherstripping), vents, and holes in the walls/baseboards.

@@sunkenpanic Thanks. I've been working on those areas and seen a big difference. Right now my goal is to put heavy screen over each air duct (but under the vent itself). With small enough holes to stop most insects but big enough to not interfere with air flow. So far I haven't found any at the big box stores but found what I want on Amazon for $7 (apx 12 by 12) which is too expensive.

This doesn't address the problem at all, you have to stop the stinkbugs right at the roof vents with a good fitting screen.

  • @glennroads7005

Mate, you are drastically reducing airflow whilst the screen is clean and nigh on eliminating it when the screen gets dirty and clogged. Also, how do you expect to clean the screen now that you've sealed it with sealant????????.

+Glenn Roads -------How is he reducing the air flow? Do you not know that air goes through screens? Do you not feel the breeze through your house windows? Geez! And who is so gross that they WOULDN'T screen off vents because bugs WILL get in. Who in the hell wants even one bug to come in! That's nasty! The fact that these companies don't have better screens already on just shows how ignorant they are!

You can just wash it or vacuum it. Plus it’ll peel off since it’s only caulk.

    • @sarahmangone7785

I agree. Wouldn't this decrease the airflow? I'm looking at roof screens and see what happens.

@@ilovethe80s97 If you ask "how is he reducing the air flow" you need to stop talking because you are clueless in terms of any science.
