IMO, the best Finnish band. I enjoy the multi-layered composition and expressiveness of the vocals. Jari Mäenpää (composer, vocalist) called this ”Extreme Majestic Technical Epic Melodic Metal”. In fact, almost all Finnish metal is quite melodic.

@@TheThamesmen I have been wondering why it is so. I think it has something to do with our character BUT a big thank goes to the ministry of education: drums, guitars and such appeared to the schools quite early (before that it was all about tambourines, xylophones and fipple flutes) Perhaps another Finn remembers the exact time? Anyway, after that we started to have a lot of rock bands.
EDIT: It started already when Marko Hietala (Tarot, ex-Nightwish) was at school, and he is now 56...

The endurance of Kai with the blastbeats is astounding and Jaris' vocals are all the more amazing when you factor in he lost a chunk of a lung to tuberculosis while in Military service. Finland is arguably the metal capital of the World(they even have a metal radio station) and there are many more bands to explore. Hi Guys, I love your reactions and banter. I'm 66 now and from the UK and my son introduced me to Wintersun in the mid 2000s around the time I was falling in love with the early Nightwish. Both bands have stood the test of time although for me I have followed the Nightwish story much more closely. I really enjoy these live studio recordings and spend many a happy hour on RUclips searching for those Bangers as you call them. My latest find which I can't stop playing is Newen Afrobeat feat. Seun Kuti & Cheick Tidiane Seck - Opposite People (Fela Kuti). Not the same genre of music but just as captivating to watch and listen too , give it a try.

You guys are brilliant together, and you got great taste in music IMO. Well, after seeing this video a while back I was thinking, damn that Tuomas made a couple of wise choices in his new drummer and bassist for Nightwish. Jukka can obviously sing, can he match up with Floor and Troy well we don't know yet, but would not surprise me if Tuomas adds him to vocals eventually too. Even without vocals, he is a superb bassist.

Dear Thamesmen, this is the the first time you have given me a good belly laugh with you banter. Carry on and I'll be waiting for your comedy show on tour :-). The CD 'Time 1' is just over 40 minutes long with 5 tracks 2 of which are short instrumental lead ins but the entire CD can be played as a single song as it just flows from one track to the next. As for backing tracks there are over 200 pieces just in this song (as I remember) all of which was mixed by Jari (the lead singer). Wintersun has been around for some time but releases music very slowly as Jari is a perfectionist and spends a long time producing the music.

Now....I was at my first gig in 2 years last Saturday night - Saxon would you believe!!! Ably supported by Diamondhead, Girlschool and Uriah Heep at Hammersmith, which is where I first saw them in the early 80's. Great night - wish you could've been there!! Thanks for giving me a laugh btw🙂 ☺

Without any disrespect, it started to my ear like chamber music with growling and a double kick, moved on to some amazing choral work, and finished as a rousing battle hymn. I do prefer my growling in smaller doses, but otherwise could well picture a stadium singing along with this, some amazing playing! Poor old Tonga, still, what a banger! More please!

I remember recommending them to y'all months ago when y'all started on Nightwish. You replied that you weren't into extreme metal but would give it a try. For me, I was also not into harsh vocals until I heard them, and I think the combo of Jari's clean vocals and the fact that even his harsh vocals are so clear that you can understand the lyrics, I really fell in love with their music, even the more straightforward death metal stuff like most of their first album (try "Winter Madness").
The two styles of vocal really make it. It was a blinding track

I am a drummer. This was a bravura performance by one of the great drummers around. I do not think even when I was young and in my prime that I would have deserved to hold Kai's drum sticks. One of the things that makes Kai special is that he can play right hand dominant and left hand dominant. I am right hand dominant so my left hand works the snare and my right hand the cymbals. Kai can do that with either hand and switch up during a song. I have seen him do it.

@@TheThamesmen ok. Then i wont die but i will give myself another thing to live for. There is a Swdesh band called Meshuggah with a song Bleed on album Obzen. Now im not sure you will like the vocal part as the singer growls the lyrics. But the song himself is OMG. The drummer Tomas Haake is the best in the game, i would dare to say best in the world. The song is about man with brain anuyrism and his transition from the living plane to a dead one. Worth checking lyrics before song. The drumming is the hardest as it gets, out of this world, yes harder than this song for sure. According to Tomas Haake himself, it took as long to learn “Bleed” as the remaining eight obZen songs combined. The polyrhythmic piece is difficult enough, utilizing 4/4 timing up top and 3/4 on the feet, but its seven-minute runtime and experimental shifts make it a true expert work..... my recomendation is: Meshuggah - Bleed drumcam by wincent drumsticks. Thank you. 😁

Respect the talent an skill of musicians. I don’t care for the constant growling. As an accent sure but not through whole song. The singer actually has a powerful and good voice, like Marko, and he should use it more. I mean, honestly, how many times could you listen to this without your head exploding?
My first reaction too. But ive grown into it. Now i think its perfect! Because of Jari (the lead singer) i started to apriciate growling and harsh vocals. But im very picky. Dont like of from most singers.
That is it exactly. Grrrowling as accent, fine. Or as juxtaposition, but a whole song. Nope.
I agree with the growling you lose the word/verse which makes it very hard to follow

I do not trust my eyes now you traded places..... But alphabetically, it seems right now, from left to right. You could use other criteria, of course, like weight, age, length or focal strength of glasses. Your choice of today was great, never heard this song before. Kai is a good friend of Jukka and took over in Nightwish because Jukka had severe problems with insomnia. May I describe both drum styles as effective organic pumping? Impressive, anyway. This kind of metal is melodic (even where it sounds loud and harsh) and I guess that is why I like it above other kinds of metal.
We did swap place - You're the only one to spot it!! What does that say about you? Not sure but I like it.

Holy crap that's heavy - Take care
Well this is the second half banger in a row!!! Loved the instrumental part of the song but but they lost me when the vocal became a growl I didn't understand a word the said until 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through when they began to sing. By then it was too late to pick up the gist of the story.
I am not a huge fan of the song, not knowing what it was about but I have an appreciation for their musician ship.
Never liked the growling/thrash metal much. This one as i said was good musician ship.
Great musicians and quite an epic track with it’s length!
