Hi Roger, wish you were in the UK. I could do with a chat. Our laser at my school is similar to that one but i can't get that kind of performance out of it :-(. I figured out the focus lens was in upside down which helped but i can't even get it to cut 6mm ply without using 100 % power and about 6mm speed.
I really enjoy your videos laser fascinates me I ran a 750 watt laser for 12 years the one thing I did cutting squares was put a small radius on each corner that way it doesn’t hesitate maybe just 15-20 thousandths and I tried to get the focal point at center thickness of my material I don’t know if that would work on your laser the one I ran cut up to 1/4 steel I used a variety of different gases depending on the material I cut.
I have been retired 11 years so a lot has changed

Sorry, another question! What are those metal ‘raisers’ you are using to hold the plywood up off the cutting table? Are they better than using it directly on the honeycomb - guessing it would help with not getting smoke and burn marks on the underside of the wood?

Thank you for this and all your great videos Sir!!! I am trying hard to buy me a laser. I have wanted one for years. However I’m not gonna waste my money on anything less than a pretty good 150, co2, cutting/engraving laser. I expect to pay at least $12,00.oo to $15,000.oo for just a decent one. Does that sound feasible? That actually wasn’t what I wanted to ask. My question was, will a laser cut just regular plywood bought from Lowes or anywhere else or does it have to be special bought and a certain type wood made just for lasers? Sorry if it’s a stupid question but I am brand new at this. I have noticed you have several videos out. I have seen some of them. However this one today really helped me understand so much better. Great video...what size is that laser cutter and how much does it cost...
I wonder if changing the bed height so that the focal point of the laser is in the vertical middle of the thing you are cutting would be advantagous. If it is focused on the vertical top, the beam would be wider and more diffused on the bottom, making for less reliable cut throughs.
Did you have Kerbal space program on in the background or were you just using the hangar music?
there are other types pof plastics that can be engraved and cut with a laser machine like abs, pp, pe etc. the plastic should not contain chloride as in the case of vinyl.

Hi Roger, just wondering what plywood you use? Do you stick with a laser plywood (ie: expensive!) or a AA plywood (from say Bunnings?)

Roger Webb Thanks Roger, I was told laser ply was what we had to use due to having ‘special glues’ that don’t burn, but I guess all we really need to do is just do some test (like you have here) to find the correct speed to avoid burning!

Hey Roger, why do you say the only plastic your should cut is acrylic? Surely methyl methacrylate isn't too healthy?!?!? What about polyethylene or polypropylene?

Hi, how are you? I got 100W laser too, but your setting for plywood does not working for my laser. I had 9mm ply and setting was 5mm/s and 95%. More speed or lesser power did not cut. I dont know where is the problem.

Roger Webb thank you for your answer. Now i use 65% and 16mm/s for 8mm birch ply. But could i next question? Smoking and ,,burning” around cut is normal? In your videos i did not see strong smoking but in my laser when i cutting i have got very strong smoking. I have nice brown cut but still burning around cut. I dont know why. I tried milion parameters and setting about speed and power. Still burning, still smoking.
@@Aawaasstt try masking tape on the material before your cut & later hand sand it
