Honestly what I love about star rail is the fact that characters ACTUALLY feel like people in the world you build a connection with instead of only seeing them in quests then they go full M.I.A. until the next event they are needed in, and imma admit I love the random daily messages from characters since it feels like they stay connected to the main gang, I love the fact we can see em pop in the express every now and then. I like how having a crew on the astral express also makes for interesting character interactions and character developments that don’t necessarily involve the MC.
Like at the start of the game March and Dan Hung have their own thing going. Just because they found you they don’t suddenly stop talking to each other and their entire world only revolves around you. I like how both march and dan hung have their own baggage they carry.
I also loved that cutscene where Himeko convinces dan to go down to the Lofu to help out and face his past. It’s moments like those that really make a game great.
As oppose to Genshin where everyone just fonds over the traveler, the MC never speaks a single word (the trailblazer has talked more in 2 story quest than Aether has in 2 years), and your only main source of interaction is a flying nag with a voice i can only compare to nails clawing down on a chalkboard.

I think both can work, in Genshin the traveler is clearly hiding massive lore spoilers from everyone (players included), which does detract from the gameplay but is necessary for suspense and mystery. However, even with all the secret lore the traveler is keeping that doesn't mean we can't like know what the travelers basic personality is like, most people find the Abyss sibling more interesting cause 1. Suspense and 2. They actually have some what of a personality but the traveler? We know nothing about how they're like on screen, in voice lines we get an idea on how the traveler is like while also getting lil crums of the Traveler's relationship with their sibling (Ex: in a voice line the traveler mentions how 2 characters (I forgot who they were) reminded him of a sibling like relationship where the older sibling tells the younger sibling to do something since they're older they're incharge, which is where we learn that since the traveler and their sibling are twins, the Traveler and their sibling used to play Rock, paper, scissors to figure out who would do stuff none of them wanted to do) It's very little but we learn something about the travelers past and their relationship with their sibling (which keep in mind, the whole reason the plot of the game exist is cause we wanna find out what happened with our sibling)

In star rail, sure you got the antimatter legion but you have those who can stand up to them, and the stellarons are more forces of nature than deadly threats to the larger societies.

As someone who has played a lot of Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd before HSR was released (AR60 and Lvl88 respectively), it’s super interesting to see what elements from Genshin and HI3 were brought over to Star Rail. • @GoldenOwl_Game
    @GoldenOwl_Game Год назад +162

    This is to be expected.
Games are at their easiest to change while they are still unreleased and in their development phase. This is because even if Design has improved ideas, the Technical department will greatly struggle to implement these changes because there's a high chance a code change can create unintentional bugs elsewhere. Some of Star Rail's improvements may make their way back into Genshin, but these will require more time and effort to implement due to Genshin already being in live service.
Star Rail's development starting after Genshin means Star Rail's design team can see everything Genshin does well and does poorly, and plan around them accordingly. And since the game is in development, the tech side can afford to scrap and reprogram things without any fear of screwing up player accounts, letting them better implement and create systems which the Genshin design team just never thought they'd need.
An example of such was lip syncing to multiple languages. Genshin had this in early content, but was dropped later, implying that it was manually "hard coded" painstakingly, and the game was not initially designed with a system to automate this during its development phase. This is too painstaking and time consuming to do manually, so it was ditched afterward. Star Rail's development team, seeing Genshin team's issue, was able to design and implement an automated system for itself as a result.
This also reflects in the UI. Genshin completely ditched Honkai Impact 3rd's UI, which was an absolute visual clusterf-, and created a cleaner and more presentable one. Star Rail, seeing this success, subsequently kept Genshin's UI as a base and improved upon it for itself.
This will happen again in future. Just as Genshin's systems was a huge step up over Honkai Impact's, Star Rail's systems are a step up over Genshin's, and ZZZ's systems will eventually be a step up over Star Rail's.

One overlooked thing that is super important.
In HSR, every character feels like they have a use. They are all good. And you need different ones for different situations. Unlike with genshin what you said, you could brute-force a lot of the combat.
This means that as for now, that you'll keep using your old characters, and not put old 5 stars and 4 stars on the pile of old and forgotten which happens a lot in Genshin and a little bit in HI3.
Investing in characters doesn't feel like a waste, it doesnt feel like in 6 weeks your built-character will be replaced and useless.
So we end up spending a lot more time with all characters, old ones too.
Imagine if Amber still had a use ^^
It helps with forming a bond with characters.
And that bond is something HYV is very good at.

Personally I really appreciated how HSR had way less requirements in graphics. That's mostly down to it being less open world but it also means my laptop doesnt burn up as fast because of graphics load. Ultimates also all look really cool, even the 4* ones. The autobattle though is pretty nice especially for farming material in calyces is pretty helpful since it means you can kick back and relax. Then you can pick which battles you think you need yourself to strategize on especially for bosses. Outside of what was mentioned I also like that you can spend some materials to get completely different ones, and that applies for alot of boss drops. If only we can get specter materials in exchange for hillichurl masks...
Simulated Universe is also pretty fun to do with the different buffs you can get. It's makes it so that every fight can feel different and strategies can vary depending on the buffs you are presented. Man it just feels like there's so many quality of life and convenience improvements people wish to be in Genshin but instead get put in HSR. The MC also has more personality, finally we can actually materialize our thoughts on disliking on certain NPCs' acts and ideas.
I've probably been more hooked to HSR now than Genshin when looking at how enjoyed I am in my first few weeks of playing both games, and abusing Seele's extra turn buffs to do up to 6 continuous turns with her in calyces is icing on the cake.

Genshin's static weapon classes kind of limits what they can do there, and while that is getting better (e.g. Heizou and Wriothesley being fist fighters in the Catalyst class) I doubt we'll ever see, for example, a scythe wielder in Genshin since you can't really fit that into any of the current classes.

It might be due to Genshin being open world, since being open world means the game has to sacrifice precious resources just to load background objects. I think this is something Hoyoverse learned from both Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd, since the open world mechanics probably came from HI3's Open World, which also has optimization issues (especially noticeable in Schicksal and APHO2) and HSR's map system probably took inspiration from HI3's story quests.

Not all things about the characters you get is good, they only give you 1 healer, but you need two (or a strong party shielder like Gepard) to progress in Memory of Chaos, so either you roll Bailu or Gepard, or you simply can't progress beyond a certain point. Not to mention that since this is a game of match the characters, if you don't have certain elements or characters of that element built, you will struggle a lot. In Genshin, you can use 1 team for 99% of the content, not so in SR where you need to spread out investments a lot more.
Also the relic system is actually worse than Genshin's artifact system. No off-set pieces, 6 pieces instead of 5, 4 pieces with random main stat instead of 3. No, being able to craft 1 single relic with the desired main stat per patch is not going to provide QoL since you can't select the sub stats it will get.

    • @nekoprankster2184
      @nekoprankster2184 Год назад +4

Yeah, I can get from a "I want to try different things and feel like every character matters" perspective, Genshin's character system can be underwhelming, but there's currently some parts of the game where I'm just struggling because I don't have certain characters. Just feels like I'm being punished for not having good enough luck for 4 stars / not pulling as much rn due to wanting to save. And it's not like the really challenging end game content - it's literally stuff like the Crimson Calyxes where I could be on death's door or dead mid-run because I don't have a preferred element to the Stagnant Shadows being a whole Avengers Level Threat for the same reason. I have a lot of Ice characters right now, but zero Imaginary, one Quantum, and one Lightning; and even then Qingque and Serval are more tailored to waves of smaller enemies and not big bosses like Stagnant Shadows, so even with elemental advantage I'm struggling. Meanwhile, in Genshin, the "endless solutions to the same problem" approach means I can typically get past an obstacle regardless of who I have and don't have.
Part of the problem is that HSR just started and its system will get better as the rooster is fleshed out, but I can totally see this going sour as some Limited characters become "Must Haves" just to progress certain sections of the game and the struggle to get gacha-locked 4 stars gets worse. Which, yeah some Genshin characters are seen as more viable gameplay wise than others, but it still feels like the gameplay gives wriggle room for player's character preference (character here as in "non-gameplay aspects"). I don't care how easier some of the grind would be with a Quantum-The Hunt character or *any* sort of Imaginary character, I *don't* want Seele and I *won't* be using my 300 standard pity on Welts, and yet it feels like the game is trying to punish me for those choices.
*EDIT:* Actually, coming back to add that there's still a little bit more about HSR's character system. Currently we have no 4 star Imaginary characters, so either you'll have to pull for Luofu or Yukong when they come, get lucky enough to get Welts (which, luck would still be involved for 4 star Imaginary, but at least you get 4 stars more often than 5 stars), or use the 300 standard pity for him. Then, there's the fact that Jing Yuan is already going to be overlapping with Serval's combination - Lightning-Erudition. Now, I think having both a 4 star and a 5 star for every possible combination is a good goal for HSR to eventually have, so that even if you're not going to go for certain 5 stars, there's still a chance you'll get a 4 star that'll work just as well. But to have the second limited 5 star already overlap with a 4 star (and especially one we get for free) is I think too soon, especially since there's already enough combinations we need rn, like a Lightning-The Hunt for instance (which I think would've suited Jing Yuan better personally). Still would have the issue of some limiteds feeling like "Must Haves", but it at least alleviates the limited roster until we start seeing more overlapping new characters later down the line.

    • @JanTGTX
      @JanTGTX Год назад +14

While having only one free healer is indeed odd, you can alternatively run Fire MC and March together. If necessary, March can perma-shield the whole team with her A4 trace while MC fuels her skill points.
Another possible downside to the relics would be, that you have to spend 40 stamina for just one 5* piece instead of getting two like in Genshin. At least that's on Equilibrium Level 3, dunno if that can change later on...
Yet, I think it's a bit too early to judge... As far as I can see, you don't need good substats to clear stuff.
Heck, there are people, who just completed Memories of Chaos. That should actually be nigh impossible, because no one has reached max Equilibrium level yet. Everything more than 10 levels above you gets artificially harder to kill, but some people have somehow managed to do it, super underleveled and with shit relics. 😂

The current team comps do not use 2 healers, they only use 1 and a support that provides utility such as bronya, asta, etc.
It seems to me too early to use the conditions of memory of chaos, a content that only the most dedicated players or whales are trying. Some aren't even trying because it seems to be content for the next few months, not the first month, we still on need of a lot of the minmax expected for such content

I think the biggest self-own is the fact that although HYV has 'explicitly' said no to end-game focused on combat, and gear more towards casual game play / world building / characters that players love, HSR simply fleshes out their respective characters way better and more frequently (ie. text system) vs. Genshin's characters; for crying out loud only a handful of characters have 2 quests allocated towards them (Yoimiya being the latest 1 which is an improvement.

The silly dialogue options, those extremely random events that give you the praise of high morals, it's all sooo funny and gives the game so much heart. Absolutely love that characters continue to interact with the trailblazer via the daily texts too. It's also nice for a change not to feel so alone when travelling in HSR.

I feel that most of the things that Star Rail are taken directly from Genshin and changed slightly. The artifact/relic system is pretty much a carbon copy except there are six pieces you need to worry about and there are substats that are different because the games have different combat mechanics.
From the top of my head, the things HSR does better is its resin system, getting a guaranteed 5 star from the beginning with just 40 wishes, and being able to use a friend's character.

That or call actions where each of your teammates can get one "rental action" from a unit not on your. i.e. Fire TB can rent Natasha's heal once per battle or Dan Heng can rent an instance Pela's def down/debuff.

Although I definitely would prefer it if it had a massive open world, not only do I not think that actually fits the structure of the game, I also think it makes up for it in so many other ways that I don't really care about the limited movement. Plus, there are so many weird little things hyv have hidden to interact with. Once you get characters that are good enough to 3 star abyss you just don't have any push back anymore. I'm afraid that it might turn out like that for star rail's endgame aswell, but having content centered around long battles with a lot of variables and a mode centered around clearing stuff fast is sure to be more secure for a decent endgame

Honestly I agree with everything besides 1 things : phone player experience being worse for genshin. Even if I will agree with the fact it can be hard to target with a bow character, it isn’t something you have to do often. + most bow characters don’t really use their targeting option (venti tartaglia yoimiya fischl diona Yelan etc etc). You just have to be used to it as myself that struggle to play genshin on pc. Your point would have been better if you were talking about phone storage that is a real big problem but… 10GO for hsr too x)
Even if genshin is my first true love between the two, I have to admit that hsr surpass it from very far away with the quality of life adjustments and dialogs. Genshin has a very high quality in term of story (the lore is insane) but man…. The dialogues ruin it all. Pretty sure if they were using more simple and dynamic dialogues no one would complain as much as the fandom does rn. But yeah, even if a story is godly, if you have to dig into artifacts or watch videos that explains you to understand it, then it is bad writing…

After a few months, the one thing i enjoy the most about starrail is the fact that dailys dont take long.
In genshin it can take a while to do the 4 daily quests for the summon currency and using/converting resin.
In hsr you only have 1 daily mission and most of the time you dont need to do it to get all the points to get the daily summon currency. 'Condensing your resin' in hsr also does not cost any additonal item, and you can hold 8 of them instead of 5.
Combined with the auto battle function, hsr is just much more casual friendly.
I think i need ~ 20-30 minutes daily for genshin, while i need only 10-20 minutes in hsr, and most of that time is autobattling, during that time i can do other things like make my breakfast.
I often feel like i enjoy thinking about daily hsr stuff more than daily genshin stuff, which feels like a drag and i often just ignore on busy days.

@@davidnguyen3469 , since when is honkai generous, pgr shits on them and pgr has an endgame that is not 3 abyss modes with an idea that you need to kill something as fast as possible. Hi3 is a prime example on why people think mobile games suck, the only difficulty is the tamer, enemies can't kill you since you literally have infinite dodge and for some reason a time slow on perfect dodge, which is completely overdone considering you once again, have infinite stamina. It doesn't help that a lot of newer valks just straight up activite it without even a need to dodge perfectly. Hi3 killed itself a long time ago with consistent powercreep starting from hov and unfun mechanics. Imagine if the next boss in genshin will just fly all the time and you can only hit using ranged attacks and next character is a ranged character, that is what honkai is.

@@kiuhh1118 I gave you the benefit of the doubt, but once again I'm proven to be naive to think I'm talking to someone who's not an actual 12 year old or of equal mental age.
On a video comparing two hoyo games on a comment comparing how they do things in their third game, you want to argue against me by saying PGR, a game by an entirely different studio, is more generous? HI3 gives out every A rank character for free on release. All A rank characters are farmable. There's S rank characters and gear farmable too, and they occasionally give them out for free as well. Stamina (resin) is a non-issue. There's no BS 50/50 on gacha. An actually good battle pass content, spending events for ingame currency, and physical merch giveaways. Maybe PGR has it even better, but I don't know, I've never played it. Because that's besided the damn point.
Prime example why mobile game suck? Both HI3 and GI were revolutionary when they came out. There wouldn't be PGR if there was no HI3. Not saying there wouldn't be a different game down the line, but PGR was the first to attempt to come even close to HI3. Which good for them, they did.
There certainly is power creep, but it's pretty damn well managed. Better than I've seen elsewhere. Case an point, Herrscher of Thunder is still the meta pick for lightning PSY party right now, even after years of updates.
Next time you start arguing with someone by chatting our of your ass, try picking someone who doesn't know shit. Or better yet, stop chatting out of your ass and actually think before you try making an argument.

Another major point in Star Rail's favor is that there is actually some degree of challenge. I have not completely lost a party in Genshin once, hell I don't even know what happens if you do. It's just too easy to heal characters and the damage enemy can cause even as someone who doesn't grind very much for my characters is usually irrelevant. But in HSR I've actually had party wipes.
The only challenge I've experienced in Genshin is sometimes being under-leveled and failing a timed challenge, which is hardly compelling or particularly enjoyable. Star Rail by comparison has had tough fights that made me actually think about my moves and team comp. It's not the deepest or hardest turn-based game out there but unlike Genshin I don't automatically breeze through all the content.
