Today, getting what you need is as easy as a trip to the store. From food to clothing, energy, medicine, and so much more, Andy George will discover what it takes to make everything from scratch. His mission is to understand the complex processes of manufacturing that is often taken for granted and do it all himself. Each week he’s traveling the world to bypass the modern supply chain in order to harvest raw materials straight from the source. Along the way, he’s answering the questions you never thought to ask.

Mexico is such a beautiful country ❤
cAtEaT Er except for the rampant poverty, drug wars, hourly decapitations and political unrest.
+YouKnowDontYou You're fun at parties, huh?
Its not perfect but you can live happily here.. Just.. dont do drugs :)
I really like the way Mecixans speak Spanish. Having learnt it at school, I can quite easily understand everything they're saying, unlike in Barcelona or not to even mention Andalusian Spanish.
In Barcelona they are likely to speak Catalan instead of Spanish, so don't worry if you don't understand it easily! Madrid should be your next sample ;).
Kasane1337 I wish I were in Barcelona now, to walk with you, down the avenue
Kasane1337 Viva México cabrones v:
Mexican spanish definitely easier to listen to
Obviously that's because in America Spanish speakers are Latin Americans, so teachers re used to speak that way, then non-spanish speakers learn from them and get used to that way of speaking.
The english subtitles for this are an absolute trainwreck.
Cynical Toast omg ikr
Mark my words, in a years time, this channel will rival that of other big channels, scishow, smarter every day, ect. I can't wait! This guys know what he's doing!
RUclips says you wrote this comment 11 months ago. Right now this channel has 377K subscribers, while the other big channels have millions of subs.
I'm sure the other channels had less subscribers last year, but I reckon you were wrong.
It’s been 1 year
The KSP Gamer Yep
It’s been aclong time and he is still thriving
1.35 million subscribers now, so you weren’t wrong
I really look forward for the moment when he disappointly says that the chocolate tastes ok....
But seriously, this is like an interesting documentary with an entertaining twist. Keep it on.
hes probably used to nestle bars thats why
I burst out laughing at the chicken photobomb at 6:20
you seem like an easy person to humor
There's just something about chickens going about being chickens that's inherently funny.
ikr
It made me think of mole.
I've had the chance to taste chocolate seeds from the fruit as well, though my guide told me not to eat the seed in the middle (probably wasnt ripe enough or he was mistaken), so just ate the flesh, and it's surprising but i loved it : the texture is close to litchi, and the taste is like a sweet (indeed) pineapple taste, with hints of mango. So pretty awesome. Made me love chocolate even more.
I was waiting for someone to say that it tasted like pineapple and mango!
What exactly is that white fleshy stuff around the cacao beans? They said that was the "Flesh" of the cacao fruit, but what is it's texture/consistency? Is it kind of like the inside of pumpkins, that squishy/slimy stuff that surrounds all of the pumpkin seeds? I'm trying to imagine what it looks like from pictures, but I just can't manage. It looks like it could be more stiff/tough fleshy stuff, like peaches mebbe? But it also looks like it could be a more, like, mushy waxy paste. Do you mind if I ask?
"Back in four years..." Is that a spoiler?
sofullofpiss shut up
sofullofpiss your a loser man
Find out on another episode of ...... Drgn bl Zeeeeeeeeee
So... Four years have passed, how is that tree doing :)?
Corona virus wont let him
2:09 that dog is gorgeous!!
finally, a video that actually shows what I was looking for about chocolate making and not just chocolatiers.
This guy needs more subs
Hey Andy, time to visit the plant !😂
1:38 aww kancil aka mousedeer too cute
Awesome this reminds me of gardening with my grandparents and uncles/aunts since they don't speak much english... i like how you went to the roots on this and talked to locals as well as got the history and some more amazing information from specialists in the field!!!
We have many cacao trees in the Philippines. In our own backyards in the province, we eat cacaos, dry them, cook them, grind them, and voila! Tsokolate!
Sound like "Chilate" a beverage from souther part of Mexico
Yes, the Philippines were able to grow the first Cacao in Asia. I too have a farm.
yaaasssss fellow filo :D
So cool!!
I'm working my way from the beginning to the end of the series and this video is by far the most informative.
I'm more curious about chocolate than I have ever been before.
GREAT STUFF!!
I also want to echo the comments about the length of the videos. This length allows much more information and I love it!
best episode so far, the length allowed you to cover the information more thoroughly instead of feeling rushed and fragmented (although I still feel like you don't look comfortable being on camera)
Also beautiful locations! I feel like I just went on a holiday!
I saw that I can grow them in my area in containers, which is 😎. I love in Michigan so I have to wait until spring time which sucks.
Awesome , also this video has a much better length that normal i like it:)
Cacao is packed with antioxidants.
Actually, the guy in the video is 90 years old, you won't notice.
I'm loving the new length!
Reminds me of the mini documentary I saw in Hershey PA about cacao trees. They actually have a few growing indoors so people can see them in person.
6:23 the chicken in the back Is like Ayy gut any chocolate for me
It's funny that he thinks everything is gonna taste like chocolate
lol
I liked your comment but I had to unlike it so there would be 69 likes
this was beyond interesting..thanks for the hard work
I loved this one!
Awesome stuff!
Este Güerro loco... 😜
Great video.
Thank you! Great information!
Love this channel and the length of this video! :)
Love the longer episode
Thanks to this video, subscribed!
Nice work on making these a longer format and more polished, keep it up!
I love that "i
"The bug will give you more energy" 😂
This is great, We live in Brazil right now, so I always see a couple chocolate pods in the grocery sore, but I've never bought one. I didn't know you could eat it raw and unprocessed.
Two more years Andy!
In the UK, at least, we have Fairtrade products (chocolate, juice drinks, fruit, sugar, coffee), which means that the food was sourced from ethical farms.
Interesting! I've eaten many cocoa beans right out of the pod. and I've eaten the marmalade they make from the pulp. But I didn't know people are now eating the pods! I've got to try that the next time I am in the jungle!
this was very helpful for school
Well that was freaking cool.
Mexico knows how to do it 🙌🏼
Drooling 🤤
really really really nice channel!
Good and interesting video! :)
jajajaja yo soy de Tapachula, que bueno que te fijaste en el soconusco, saludos y suerte en tus demás viajes.
Bless them. Looking after their environment.
wow, I've never had pozole with cacao. Sounds great.
Not Pozole soup..Pozol is a beverage. :)
Love what you're doing here guys! Awesome series, can't wait for more of them
10:20 is so funny 😂
"it mostly tasted like a regular fruit" - that's some epic description there! So good, he described the beans the same way twice... Next time I'm at a supermarket, following his example, I'm going to say that an apple tastes like an orange, or that a grapefruit tastes like an apricot, or that a pineapple tastes like a raspberry. So yeah, keep up the good work!! :/
This was so informative for such a chocolate addict like me 😭 espcialimente para aprender mucho de una experta de chocolate
photo bomb chicken in the background when they were tasteing the fruit lol
your channel is slowly maturing
those guys were nice and patient
6:22 that rooster gives zero f***s that the their filming 😂😂😂😂
Question: On the third day I uncovered and they were all fuzzy (moldy). That was the only ripe bean so I can't really start over. Cleaned off all the mold and re-covered. Mold seemed to be external only. Question is: should I toss them or keep going with the fermenting? Also why did it happen?
Good video
Cool video! I subbed.
Im watching this while eating ritter sport new cocoa selection chocolate. (74% intense from peru)
Yummy
I miss Mexico.
I've been in to the bahamas and tried a cocoa pod and the seeds inside it are purple on the inside
It was supper interesting to learn about the rest of the coco fruit. I wonder what it tastes like. Especially the jam. thanks for the vid
Coco fruit? You mean CACAO FRUIT. It baffles me,; this is theobroma cacao, not coco nor cocoa, since when there is cocoa tree?
Therefore, there is no such a thing as coco nor cocoa beans, I saw some video where people call it cocoa nib, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor etc.
This is funny and strange because only English-speaking person name it that way, for the rest of the world it is cacao powder rather it is processed or not, unrefined or refined especially cacao butter which have been and still is called cocoa butter from the English-speaking person!!! Unbelievable!
@@Veronique428 calm your tits.
Two more years!
Great video my favorite so far. I also watched this while eating a chocolate bar
I need more chocolate. I feel better about now knowing it was made from the work of children
good info subed

Hey look it's Pacman xD
Amazing, great work! I love your videos.
What a fascinating video, Mexico looks beautiful, and seeing the details on the Cacao tree was so interesting. U can't wait till the next part (Also that Jam looks very tasty)
I NEED MORE!"

been 4 years mate, time to go back
am i the only one who kept thinking about the bird noise "CACAW!" when he said cacao?
The way you were holding that machete, I suspect your smallest finger got one heck of a blister.
a while since i went to this channel and right when i went here i was eating chocolate :D (non slave chocolate)
love how they freaked out at the military 'reten'. you can use cameras there if you have a press ID which I supose you had right?

amazing content! can't believe you have so few subs and views. Subbed and binge watching your channel right now. Keep some awkwardness in the future :) although for now, less would maybe be better
1:06 package man!
I think you mean Packman?
+Lilly Dragon God dang aotocorrect
I am in Minnesota
Yay, Minnesota! We usually hear nothing about us
+CooperMVang Everybody hears about Minneapolis though ^^
+StephySon True, true... I just need to get out of the house more often.
CooperMVang Everybody knows about the Minneapolis sound, yawl gave us ll them ill 80s and early 90s music from Prince and Janet Jackson, etc ^^
it's all Wisconsin's fault
How do you meet these people and get these interviews?
I really like your videos! Good story, well cut, nice music, and good chosen farmers to talk to...all very nice. Unfortunately, even though I speak English very well, I have a hard time understanding you at some parts of the video because you rush through your texts. That is especially strong when you talk about the farms you go to at 1:30 ongoing. Now, as you have chosen to make the videos longer, you might want to consider making them even a few seconds longer just by speaking more unhurried. That would make your great videos even greater!
@Christoph Hornig, you can slow the video speed down to help you understand. I do this often. Lower right side of video frame- see the gear icon? Click that to find the speed control.
Time to go back
Thanks for making the video longer!!!! 😀
What cacao variety is this sir?
He needs to go back to harvest his cacao tree.
I've read many of the comments and have none addressing my question. Would the folks at HTME consider making transcript for us to read? There are nurseries here in the U.S. which sell cacao trees. I would so love to make some chocolate for my family. Would like to be prepared for the future. ;-)
+Debbra Walter Yeah, if there's a demand for it, adding a transcript is something we definitely could do. We're pretty short-staffed and overworked at the moment though, so just getting the videos done in time is difficult at this point.
+How To Make Everything - Very nice of you to reply. Thank you.
+Debbra Walter Go to ChocolateAlchemy.com and there you'll find all you need to make chocolate. I've been doing it for 9 years now! it's just magic!
Thank you!
here in the philippines we only eat the fleshy white part of the seed. i was shocked that they chewed the whole thing. hahaha
Cocoa is good
Can i borrow your video for my college work and i share in you tube?
It's 4 years later have you been back
alex goot!
It’s very sad that such an expensive, informative and high quality channel isn’t as popular as it deserves...
