Each of the five kids is being abused in some way, and they’re starting to act out those toxic behavior patterns towards their peers. One of the most important coming of age teen films ever made, showing us how different teens getting together and learning how to deal with everyday life while being in detention on a Saturday.
"We're all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that's all." Fun Fact: The scene in which all characters sit in a circle on the floor in the library and tell stories about why they were in detention was not scripted. Writer and director John Hughes told them all to ad-lib. Iconic Defiance Fact: Judd Nelson improvised the part at the closing of the film where Bender raises his fist in defiance. He was supposed to just walk into the sunset, so to speak, and John Hughes asked him to play around with a few actions. When he was done and they were finishing up, Nelson threw his fist up without running it by anyone. Everyone loved it, and it has also become an iconic symbol of the 1980s as well as cinema history. Music Enthusiast Fact: "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds, was written for the film by Keith Forsey. It was a number one hit for Simple Minds. Billy Idol and Bryan Ferry turned down offers to record it first (although in 2001, Billy Idol recorded a version as a bonus track for his Greatest Hits album). The song was also turned down by Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, who then suggested they offer it to the band fronted by her husband at the time, Simple Minds.
To add to your music fact, Simple Minds also initially turned down the song because they didn't like the idea of recording a song they themselves didn't write. It is the only song of theirs that wasn't written by them. But they were eventually convinced to do the song.

The Breakfast Club came out the year after I graduated H.S. Those kids accurately represent the "cliques" and drama we had in school back then. That saying that the wrestler said "2 hits, me hitting you, you hitting the floor", was a very popular saying back then.
I’m a teacher and the students who are considered the “bad” kids love me. I listen to them, I let petty stuff go, I give second chances. Just last night I was at the mall by myself, ran into three of my students and I bought them sodas because they ran out of money and they were sharing a drink. Teachers like Vernon, as a colleague, I avoid like the plague. Every kid needs one adult who will believe in them. Bender would have loved my class.
This movie helps people realize everyone has their own problems. I most related to Brian because I was quiet and nerdy. I envied the popular girls and jocks becuase I thought their lives were perfect. It never crossed my mind until this movie that they probably had their own struggles.

He probably saw her going through similar challenges at home and at school like himself, so he treats her as if he gets it.)

As a GenX’er, this movie, and it’s theme song, are basically the prime examples of the GenX (65-80) period. Being alive and unnoticed was the teenage angst of my generation. Many members of Generation X were latchkey kids with long hours of unsupervised, solitary time while single/both parents worked. We were the forgotten due to a change in traditional ideals, more women than ever joined the workforce and divorce increased dramatically, peaking in the United States during the late ’70s and early ’80s which lead to unprecedented incidence of broken homes, drug abuse, and record rates of teen suicide. The play-date, helicopter-parent, child-centered attitude of the Millennial era was a thing of the future. The social higher-achy clics in schools were the worst thing that could happen to a GenXer and this movie made it seem like there was always a chance to pull down the barriers. Ally Sheedy killed it in this movie!! As always, another outstanding reaction to a classic and one of the films I grew up with. Nothing but Love and Respect!
Same here...born in '69...to and from school by myself, and cartoons after...no helicopter parenting...both parents worked, and during the summer, I was out all day until dark by myself (or with my friends)...no cell phones...#LatchKeyKid...
Yes! As a GenX'er, born in '71. Mother was widowed, raised as latch key kid! This movie represented each clic in my school. I was the teacher's pet, computer geek girl. Always picked on, and only girl in computer club. Now I have a Masters in computer science.
They did Allison dirty in the end. Ally Sheedy thinks so, too. She didn't think her character needed a makeover, and neither do I. She looked better when she was being herself. Love her.
I lost my co-pilot today, and this reaction video was the one thing that kept me distracted from that today. Thank you for doing this, these videos often mean much more than you know. ❤

You are awesome, J! I love how you loved Ally Sherry’s character. I think you really got what this movie was about. I think this movie was great when it was made but also great now if you let yourself be open to all the characters, which you did. I’m glad this type of movie is “your thing”. Watching your reaction was great for my heart today. We need more people like you in the world. Your tell it like you see it manner makes you fun to watch. You were spot on!😊
I was 15 when I saw this at the theater with a bunch of friends. We went in expecting another 16 Candles movie but this one had some pretty heavy scenes, I think we were disappointed at first but it soon became a favorite.
You got me with Die Hard the other day with "You doin' too much." You got me today with, "Wash your hair." Dude, thanks for all you do, I don't miss a react from you. Take care.
“I’m about to go watch this again right now.” When I go to sleep, I usually have to have some comfort watch/background noise on. I rotate between Napoleon Dynamite, 13 Going On 30, Mean Girls, Clueless and The Breakfast Club.
This channel, Jay & Blank are National treasures. I enjoy all these reactions so much. Jay is hilarious & completely genuine. The editing is a masterful work of art. The copilots are the the perfect finishing touch. Many thanks to all of you because you all truly make my days brighter.
It’s easy to say that Bender is just a big mouthed coward. I think at one point that was my initial assessment. Having seen this movie multiple times, and now viewing it as an adult: I think that terrified look in his eyes at the moment Principal Vernon is threatening him is John’s PTSD kicking in from the abuse he suffers at home with his father, an adult figure who is supposed to be taking care of and watching out for him, and here is another one that is now in his face intimidating him, threatening harm. The look in his eyes at that moment, says he’s at home with his father all over again.
The very first time I watched this movie, I also turned right back around and watched it again. It’s such a well done film. I’m really happy you enjoyed it as much.
Great choice for a reaction! John Hughes was in his mid-30s when he made this movie, and though he wasn’t a teenager in the 80s, he had a knack for communicating with and portraying us in a way that didn’t come off as condescending or out of touch. I came to realize that goes beyond us when I started to introduce this and some other of his movies to Gen Ys and Zs, and hearing that they felt like that as well.
I'm so glad you picked this movie, too! I'm glad you liked it so much! 😁 And yes, you did go through hell last month, so you really earned this fun time! Night night! 😁 👊
that teacher had to deal with kids like that all the time. They don't start off like that but dealing with uncontrollable kids with no parenting can tarnish good teachers to turn into him. This was actually a good reaction and glad you enjoyed. Well done
Maaaaan, comparing these average minor attitudes to personal crisis kids as if equal to the TRULY uncontrolled kids from TK to 12+ regular classrooms today... Not even close. And if any Admin or teacher could not deal with the low-key bs of the 70s 80s 90s 00s and even into the 10s without turning toxic abd a threat- then NO they got no business working with kids. Today? Nah. Last decade of changed rules and codes and parenting and the utter lack of even considering removing from regular classes of legit mentally incapable to psychotic kids magnifies the chaotic violent mess of public schools now.
I'm glad you picked this one too J!! I'll say it again, you're the coolest of the cool. When I could see it in your eyes this movie grabbing you at the end I about lost it. This really is an important and iconic 80s movie. I think before your channel gets much bigger you should set up a get together at Feast or Momma's at least for the Kentucky brethren. I'd make the trip! Love your channel man. Keep doin what you do.
As a “Gen X”er, I’m so happy to see people discovering the amazing movies that my generation grew up with. There are sooooo many great ones yet to discover from the 80’s and 90’s. Clerks, Singles, Weird Science, See no evil Hear no evil, Flight of the Navigator, Goonies, Roadhouse, Heathers, Teen Wolf, Big Trouble in little China, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, E.T., Little Shop of Horrors, Sixteen Candles, Footloose, Ferris Buellers day off….. and the list goes on and on…… Keep it up. Love your reactions and you two sweet puppies.
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie it is truly something special. Through watching reactors I have come to love this movie even more. RIP to John Hughes, his style was one of kind.
Me and my son whos 23 love this movie his favorite line is "Im trying out for a scholarship" When he was wearing one boot and one sneaker in the gym 😂😂
1. The woman and girl dropping off Brian are Anthony Michael Hall's real mother and sister. 2. The late Paul Gleason also played "Berks" in "Trading Places and the idiot assistant police chief in "Die Hard " 3. Carl told Vernon it going to cost 50 bucks. It was supposed to be 20 bucks so his reaction was real. 4. Personally I liked Allison goth.😍😜 You need to check her out in n"Short Circuit" and "War Games" 5.. I use "doobage" as often as I can 😎 This school is the same one Landis used for "Uncle Buck and "Ferris Bullets day off". 6. Even Landis says the shattering glass is over the top. 8. If you look closely you can see John's dad is checking out Claire when he gets picked up. 9. That's John Landis picking up Brian.
I lived like Brian, looked like Andrew, didn't have the conscience to be Bender, but really amounted to Allison. What's scary about Vernon is that anyone can turn into him - probably faster now than 40 ago considering the decay of public education. You could enter the teaching profession with the highest ideals and dreams in the world, wanting to be a role-model to all the kids ... and after years of dealing with disruptive students, entitled parents, exhausted coworkers, and corrupt administrators/politicians/unions - you become your own worst enemy.
This came out when I was a junior in h.s., and we had a "Bender". He was a total burn out, and I swear he had that exact outfit Judd Nelson had on! He behaved just like him too..... everybody hated him.
Love your emotional reaction to this film, and how it truly won you over by the end! This gem has amazing writing, fantastic cast and an incredible director. It makes us laugh, but it’s really about the human experience and how we may be different, but we share similar experiences. We all have this human experience. And each one of us can relate to each other when we look. It also does a good job of explaining what it feels like to be a teen and feel so invisible and misunderstood. How it seems as if adults forgot what it’s like to be young, but when you’re young you don’t know how to articulate that fact, despite seeing it for yourself in your own parents and the way they are oblivious to what or who you are. It’s not a shock you’re going to rewatch this one. I go back to it all the time. It hits so many emotional beats and it almost never gets old.
So glad you enjoyed this so much! Gave me that 80's glow I felt when I first saw it, not all reactors have been as enthusiastic. Thanks for being so genuine.💖
It’s so nice to see you genuinely ENJOYING a movie again, with no violence and nothing nauseating (except a little spit and a weird lunch with a Pixie Stix/Captain Crunch on White Bread sandwich). There are many more movies with nothing upsetting or disgusting in them. I hope the next year finds you enjoying those movies.
hey bro just wanted to say i recently found your channel a few weeks ago and have become hooked on your reactions. not to bore you with a long story but i have severe anxiety and depression among a few other issues and it’s channels like yours that i find refuge when things get unbearable. thank you so much for being such a positive influence in a messed up world. oh and let’s not forget your awesome doggies for being a great support system for you and all of us that enjoy your vids. keep up the great work my bro and much love from south carolina. 💙🤘🏽
"I need her to get more camera time. She's weird, but I like her!" Ally Sheedy is the best character, and doesn't say a word until 'Vodka'... For more of 80's Ally - Short Circuit and Only The Lonely. She's adorable. She's also great in the underrated 1990 Fear (not the one with Marky Mark)
I was 12 years old when this movie was released, and it became an instant favorite of mine. I've seen it more times than I can count. I know so many people my age (myself included) who can recite the lines right along with the movie. We saw ourselves and our peers in this film in one way or another. Like you said, each character was a real person. John Hughes was the father of teen movies in the 80s. I think you'll like most of his library. Great reaction, great channel! Love watching you!
SO weird! I just bought a vintage breakfast club t-shirt today ! 😲 I was 14 yrs old when this movie came out & it's still on my top list of fav 80's movies. LOVED re-watching it with you ❣
So glad you loved it, and yeah unfortunately high school was very much like this where I went lol. At least let the puppies out to pee before you start it again lol
I love your fur babies ❤️❤️ But this movie got so many thumbs up reviews back then and the writing itself made it hard to forget. Thanks for the upload bro 👍
This movie was called "A teenage Big Chill." So I'll suggest "The Big Chill" (1983). No jump scares, no violence, big ensemble cast and one of the best soundtracks in film.
I’m so glad you reacted to this movie.. I tear up at the end every time.. there’s something about that song that moves me to the core. Don’t you forget about me 🎵🎵🎵🎵
One of my favorites, so glad you reacted to it. I classified myself as a nerd in high school but I talked to many different cliques. Didn't have the school shooting problems back then, from bullying. Communication is the issue; not just in schools, but work as well. Many students just take it in, instead of talking to a superintendent. That person needs to listen and make actual action. I was bullied, but had a great superintendent to resolve issues. She cared and had us all talk, together. She made it clear that I didn't say it was that student that was bullying me. It was bad; not being able to get a job, as every place required me to be 18. No heat during the winter and power going out, constantly. My mom was stressed with her job and upset with my grades. Multiple times of thinking, 'maybe I shouldn't be here. My mom is upset and others want me gone.' Suicide isn't the answer, neither is shooting. It will get better.
Great reaction. All these characters remind me of specific people I went to high school with. A great film you'd really like about a different era if high school students graduating and their last night of summer is George Lucas's AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1973). There's also the excellent 1982 film FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH.
I was in high school when this came out and it is still one of the greatest movies ever made for me. I was in love with Ally Sheedy and I desperately wanted Bender’s coat. Thanks for reacting to this.
I reacted the same way you did when I first watched this… I immediately wanted to start it over. I was way too young when it first came out, but when I finally watched it in high school it rocked my world. A classic.
I LOVE that you loved the movie, and I love that you love the weird girl. That tells me so much about who you are. Also, it's so sweet how you always stand up for the kids. You're a joy to hang out with! Hugs!
(Graduated 2014 for reference) I started high school like Brian and left like a hybrid between Bender and Brian. I was still a nerd but I stopped caring, skipped, drugs, drank all the fun stuff to keep me alive. Still passed every class with an A or B except for math and foreign language. I got sent to the principal's office one time for smiling at a teacher. we had a stare-down, he told me to put the Ipad away so I closed it but did not put it away and looked up at him, said nothing, and just smiled. We stared at each other and the whole class was silent, you could hear a pin drop, after a few seconds he asks if I thought this was funny so I smiled bigger and he told me to get out
This reaction and comments for The Breakfast Club is Tops! This is a favorite movie of mine since it was released ....it does not disappoint at all. This is an 80's classic coming of age movie and it hits different clicks that are a great combination . Thank you for the appreciation of a generational movie that will live rent free in many minds . 😎
Glad you survived October 🤣Breakfast Club has always been in my "rotation", I was 15 when it came out. You should follow it up with Anthony Michael Hall (Brian) along with Kelly LeBrock in another 80s teen movie - Weird Science (1985). The cast also includes very young Bill Paxton and Robert Downey, Jr.
I love that you love this movie!!! It was hailed at the time of release as the most accurate portrayal of teen life ever made. It dealt with a LOT of social issues and how they affect teens.
I'm a GenX'er - Class of '86. I LOVE this movie! Always have and always will. I've probably seen it 40 times, at least - it never gets old... it's def a cult classic!
John Hughes movies were the shit in the 80's. He got how to portray teenage angst so well. Sixteen Candles is an earlier film he did with Anthony Michael Hall. Great companion piece. And Pretty in Pink (he wrote it) with Molly Ringwald is another great teen angst movie. Thanks for reacting! You really got the point of this movie. Some YTers don't get it.
Each of the five kids is being abused in some way, and they’re starting to act out those toxic behavior patterns towards their peers. More emo birds nest than goth. She probably was into Siouxsie and the Banshees, tho.
Ally sheedys end is the only part of this movie I don't like
Ally herself has gone on record several times, saying that she was against the makeover scene, and still thinks its totally unnecessary
Yeah, "I can see your face", not really, I could see it better withut the excessive makeup.

This movie only gets better every time you watch it. Iconic ending - deep meaningful conversations about teenage America. Ally Sheedy is Queen ;)
You got me with Die Hard the other day with "You doin' too much." You got me today with, "Wash your hair." Dude, thanks for all you do, I don't miss a react from you. Take care.
“I’m about to go watch this again right now.”
When I go to sleep, I usually have to have some comfort watch/background noise on.
I rotate between Napoleon Dynamite, 13 Going On 30, Mean Girls, Clueless and The Breakfast Club.
"The 80's had the best music." Truth.
This channel, Jay & Blank are National treasures. I enjoy all these reactions so much. Jay is hilarious & completely genuine. The editing is a masterful work of art. The copilots are the the perfect finishing touch.
Many thanks to all of you because you all truly make my days brighter.
Know it means the world to hear that. You all enjoying makes our days just as bright.
@@EOMReacts we love your channel, man
It’s easy to say that Bender is just a big mouthed coward.
I think at one point that was my initial assessment.
Having seen this movie multiple times, and now viewing it as an adult:
I think that terrified look in his eyes at the moment Principal Vernon is threatening him is John’s PTSD kicking in from the abuse he suffers at home with his father, an adult figure who is supposed to be taking care of and watching out for him, and here is another one that is now in his face intimidating him, threatening harm. The look in his eyes at that moment, says he’s at home with his father all over again.
The very first time I watched this movie, I also turned right back around and watched it again. It’s such a well done film. I’m really happy you enjoyed it as much.
The fist pump at the end says it all about high school kids. God,was I ever that young. My favorite character was Carl the janitor.
I'm legit glad you enjoyed this as much as you did, especially after what you endured to get to it.
As a “Gen X”er, I’m so happy to see people discovering the amazing movies that my generation grew up with. There are sooooo many great ones yet to discover from the 80’s and 90’s.
Clerks, Singles, Weird Science, See no evil Hear no evil, Flight of the Navigator, Goonies, Roadhouse, Heathers, Teen Wolf, Big Trouble in little China, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, E.T., Little Shop of Horrors, Sixteen Candles, Footloose, Ferris Buellers day off….. and the list goes on and on……
Keep it up. Love your reactions and you two sweet puppies.
Loved your reaction. I think everyone relates to at least one of the characters and knows someone who was like the others.
Benders' version of "Eat My Shorts" pre-dates Bart Simpson. Always love your reactions.
I've seen this a couple hundred times and it never gets old...Great watchin with ya bro!
Awesome again man. Love how you dooze it, brilliant and bang on every time
You ready? “Uncle Buck”. Trust me
1. The woman and girl dropping off Brian are Anthony Michael Hall's real mother and sister.
2. The late Paul Gleason also played "Berks" in "Trading Places and the idiot assistant police chief in "Die Hard "
3. Carl told Vernon it going to cost 50 bucks. It was supposed to be 20 bucks so his reaction was real.
4. Personally I liked Allison goth.😍😜 You need to check her out in n"Short Circuit" and "War Games"
5.. I use "doobage" as often as I can 😎
This school is the same one Landis used for "Uncle Buck and "Ferris Bullets day off".
I have watched this movie so many times. It never gets old. Great reaction.
One of my favorite movies growing up in the 80s and still is. Your reaction was priceless, had me in tears laughing
Simple Minds baby!! That's my go to song for karaoke on 80s Night on EVERY cruise!
The way people used to talk face to face
I was a Sophomore in High School
1983-1987
In the thick of all the John Hughes films
Good cast - I remember first watching this when I was a teenager myself. Such a good movie.
So glad you enjoyed this so much! Gave me that 80's glow I felt when I first saw it, not all reactors have been as enthusiastic. Thanks for being so genuine.💖
I’ve never wanted jump-scares in the breakfast club more than I did watching this. “Shut up”
Thank you for reacting to a film that defined my early teen years. It gave a voice to a lot of feelings that I didn't have to words to say.
One of my favorite movies ever since I first watched it as a teenager. Your dog standing up was adorable lol. 💕
LOL your reaction is so funny hahaha especially regarding Alison. She's probably my favorite too.
One of my favorite 80s movies. So cool you did this one.
Welcome to the family. And I’m glad our videos are able to help you - J
"I need her to get more camera time. She's weird, but I like her!"
Ally Sheedy is the best character, and doesn't say a word until 'Vodka'...
For more of 80's Ally - Short Circuit and Only The Lonely. She's adorable.
She's also great in the underrated 1990 Fear (not the one with Marky Mark)
also, "Maid to Order"
WAR GAMES
I was 12 years old when this movie was released, and it became an instant favorite of mine. I've seen it more times than I can count. I know so many people my age (myself included) who can recite the lines right along with the movie. We saw ourselves and our peers in this film in one way or another. Like you said, each character was a real person. John Hughes was the father of teen movies in the 80s. I think you'll like most of his library. Great reaction, great channel! Love watching you!
28:04 "You notice she never said Detroit."
I forgot how much I love this movie. I have tears in my eyes because the message is so true and I can see a piece of myself in each of them.
This came out during my Freshman year in HS. It really was representative of my generation...and continues to be that to many in Gen-X.
Ahh. I was eighteen when this movie came out!
I still love it to this day!
I was 16. I remember watching this so many times on cable, back in the day.
One of my favorite 80s movies of all time
One of my all-time favorites. Love your reaction!
John Hughes made some of the best movies of the 80's!!! Ally Sheedy was one of my first movie crushes
I "LOVE Being on the list "... Love this man too.. 💯💯💯
SO weird! I just bought a vintage breakfast club t-shirt today ! 😲 I was 14 yrs old when this movie came out & it's still on my top list of fav 80's movies. LOVED re-watching it with you ❣
Such a great movie. I can watch this over and over and not get bored with it. Great reaction bud. I'm so glad I came across your channel
lol your dog cracks me up hes like who in the hell are you talking to? im right here pet me! 😂
I enjoy watching movies with you. You seem like a genuinely good guy. And your dogs are cute as hell.
So glad you loved it, and yeah unfortunately high school was very much like this where I went lol. At least let the puppies out to pee before you start it again lol
The Shermer High School shirt you've seen was likely for the athletic department - a reference to another John Hughes flick, Weird Science
I love your fur babies ❤️❤️
But this movie got so many thumbs up reviews back then and the writing itself made it hard to forget. Thanks for the upload bro 👍
Classic film, glad now @J you realize why we who grew up with this film talk about it and watch it endlessly. Loved watching you fall in love with it
As always, it's a joy to watch these films with you. Glad you liked this one. One of my faves from the 80's.
Romulus needs his own channel. I love that dog. No, wait. This is it. This is his channel.
That is a fact. We all know it. LoL
Don’t you forget about me 🎵🎵🎵🎵
In School Suspension and After School Detention at my high school
You did pick a great movie and I am so happy to see you smile! I also loved the way Rom was really hamming it up for the camera 🤣.
I was in high school when this came out and it is still one of the greatest movies ever made for me. I was in love with Ally Sheedy and I desperately wanted Bender’s coat. Thanks for reacting to this.
There's nothing nicer than watching someone really enjoy a film. Was a pleasure to watch you watch it. :)
Hugs!
Great reaction as always bro... I just KNEW you would love this one!! 😊
We stared at each other and the whole class was silent, you could hear a pin drop, after a few seconds he asks if I thought this was funny so I smiled bigger and he told me to get out
First movie I ever watched with my husband at the theatre. 38 years today. Iconic classic heartwarming movie. Great reaction again
I didn't know that to see EOM react to the breakfast club but now I know I did and I'm dying laughing and I'm not even done.
I said I the chat, only J could get jump scared during Breakfast Club. LoL
@@EOMReacts The shame is all in the "shut up!" 🤣😂
Your reaction to this was just awesome. Brought a tear to my eye. Keep up the great work!
11:56 That laugh of yours is one of the best and funniest things I've seen in a long time! LOL
You, your doggos and your opening dance moves just put me in the best smiley mood. This is gonna be fun!👏☺
I was in my twenties when this came out (graduated in ‘81) but could so so relate to most of this. Such a great movie! So glad to reacted to this!
Thank you for reacting to this.. please keep it going with the 80s movies. Enjoyed your reaction 👏
