The downstairs kitchen is begging to be a entertainment bar! Cocktails, popcorn pizza etc! Love the tile!

Definitely make the downstairs kitchen something for entertainment (butlers pantry, snack bar ,etc) if that main living area is where your friends gather. You won’t want to go all the way upstairs to get things when entertaining in the lower level. I’m sure you’ll be able to find another space for the craft room (which is also a great idea for your work side of the home). Loving it all, Drew! ❤ Ps- the pink tile would look great with darker wood elements and metal touches to tie in your Spanish style in the other parts of the house. Right now it’s giving 1940’s-50’s style.

Your house is looking so homey! I love following along. I would like to recommend that you update the downstairs kitchen as a SUMMER kitchen! When you start hosting patio events, it would be great to be able to have full access to the amenities. It could also be used as a potting/cutting area for the garden. You could make it look similar to the upstairs kitchen with open shelving for displaying vases or pots. I love the idea of the downstairs being your parents area. Having a kitchen available when "guests" stay is even more accommodating when they get their morning coffee and enjoy the patio or dining nook without having to go upstairs. Stairs get harder as we get older. The downstairs bathroom is also the guest bathroom for patio and movie nights. Utilizing the downstairs as a guest area also keeps your personal space more private when you are hosting a movie or game night. If you shorten the cabinets in the butler pantry, it might be a more open work space for crafts. Adding dimmable under cabinet lighting there would work for craft jobs and a buffet counter for parties.

The breakfast nook downstairs should be like a garden room/conservatory with those huge windows! You could use the table from the upstairs breakfast nook down there if it doesn't work with the banquet.

rounded banquet could work. have a couple lower back chairs to opposite side of table, so not visually blocking view. I agree with someone that mentioned conservatory/plant room. totally see that with those lovely windows/ light. maybe have water feature outside that you could hear in that room, from window, as you have coffee and plan your day. at night moody lights for cocktail as you end day. you will definitely figure it out.

I love the fact that you appreciate the original tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. While the colors wouldn’t be my first choice, I’d feel like keeping the kitchen and bathroom in its original condition would be paramount, so I’d find a way to make it my own. Kudos to you for appreciating all the original details still left in the house!

Is there a way to salvage the tiles from the parents bathroom to add and repair the pink bathroom or to an upsatirs bathroom?

    • @lindaartz3297
      @lindaartz3297 Год назад

I agree with the comments about keeping the original tile. A vintage house looses it’s charm when people go in and rip everything out and do all new. I also like the idea of having the downstairs for guests so you have your own private space upstairs. The downstairs kitchen for snack bar, guests kitchen and for entertaining downstairs and outside on the patio. I don’t even mind the little cracks in the bathroom tile. It shows age but the tiles aren’t trashed. The Banquette would look fine with the table, maybe with brown leather upholstery. Chairs look fine too. You could do either with that table. I love what you are doing with it and being a California native, born in 1947, I am so happy that you are keeping the heritage of your home. I moved many years ago and keeping the architecture is significant. I have lived in Florida for many years and I feel the same way here.

Make it extra glam. The dinning room upstairs is perfect with the Custom table. Why not add a Miral wall somewhere like you did in the house makeover. Wallpaper wallpaper wallpaper. A lot of Bang for your buck. The downstairs living room the walls need to be a softer color. Everything is so beautiful what you’ve done . I cannot wait to see what’s next. Drew, love the progress you've made so far! I have a few comments. With your movie/ family room: Keep a kitchenette to prevent running up and down your stairs with food. You will also use it for working lunches and outdoor entertaining. Guests will be able to get snacks in the middle of the night. Buy a counter depth fridge too. For your upstairs breakfast nook: A banquet will put your back to those beautiful morning treetop views so get more comfy chairs or overstuff the replacement cushions. Definitely work with a tile restoration company and bring marble into the upstairs bathrooms for luxe.

It feels like it would be nice to be able to at least do some food prep down there and to have a fridge for guests, cold beverages, etc. That said, my mom has a mini fridge in her "guest suite" so that could be another option.

Swap out the sconces to something that may match your current aesthetics. I would also change out those mirrors. I was thinking the same thing! I'm sure they have their reasons for assigning the rooms like that, but isn't it going to be a bit uncomfortable for Marie to have to go through the guests' room to get to the bathroom when there are guests staying? Also having to share it with guests?

Keep the kitchen! I think the butlers side would be great for a snack bar plus the fridge is in that side so it’s easier access. The other side of the kitchen would be a great painting/craft storage. The sink would be great for both functions to clear out snack room messes and paint/craft supplies. The breakfast nook has great lighting, imagine having like a Brunch and paint or wine and paint night in there while also entertaining and snacking in the movie room! The nook would also be a great spot to house so many plants 🌱

    Two big suggestions:
    1. Your downstairs kitchen could totally be a DIY dye/stain room, unless you're planning to do that with one of the downstairs bathrooms, There are sinks to rinse brushes, and it's RIGHT next to that little downstairs laundry space! Could even use the range hood to help with a drying station.
    2. Upstairs, you could combine that tiny guestroom and "Marie's bathroom" to create a HUGE Primary Bathroom and connect it to your room! The one that is currently "Your Bathroom" could become "Marie's Bathroom" and connect to her room instead. Would require closing up some doors and opening up some walls, but I think it would be SUCH a better layout long-term.
I LOVE watching all the cool stuff you're doing with this house!! You rock!

The most important thing in your life is your friends and family. When we are young we think about things and success. That is ok, but you cannot take it with you. Your first floor kitchen is so indicative of a 1950s diner/ movie theater. I think it would be fantastic to make the long butler's pantry and homage to this. Maybe remove a few of the upper cabinets, and create a space for a small popcorn machine, cuddled a lower cabinet and insert a beverage fridge, etc.
Then, I would wall off the rest of the former kitchen space, and combined it with the breakfast nook to create an artist's space. You could repurpose cabinet tree that you take off of the wall in the butlers pantry, remove the stove and ovens, and use that as a space to keep the bulk of your crafting supplies. Imagine sitting in that sun drenched room and painting!!
Bonus that the laundry room is attached. Because I don't know about you, but I get messy when I'm crafting. 😂
You could also keep a bistro style table and chairs to help create a lovely tea room, when your parents stay.

Drew, your house is becoming your home. I adore your kitchen design as well as your movie room with the great couch, hutch and decor, you put so much of your vision and sheer hard work into it.
The house is so large and is an ongoing personal project for you with tons of scope.
Is there sufficient space for a banquet with the round table, hard to tell from the angle we saw.
The second kitchen downstairs which you don’t really use definitely could be used for so many things, perhaps that’s for after you’ve decided upon and finished the works in other areas and you might have a lightbulb moment!
Many years ago I lived in a very old house with many original features which we immediately ripped out and updated and modernised throughout and since then pretty much the same but seeing your use of antiquing and use of darker, heavier old furniture has me looking at my current home only to think is a plain, safe, characterless box which doesn’t reflect us.
I love seeing what choices you make and it’s fascinating to watch your journey in your beautiful new home with so many windows for light too! ☀️🥰🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

The the downstairs kitchen being split into 2 parts. The part (that's similar to the coffee bar) being a snack area for the movie theater. Having open shelving with glass containers of different snacks/candies. Maybe adding a mini fridge (if you don't want to keep the big fridge) for drinks and a popcorn machine.
The main part of kitchen definitely being a craft room. I like the idea of the desk being where the range is and then using the cabinets as storage for your paints/craft items that are in the storage room. Maybe even some open shelving there to store your paintbrushes and other items that could be set up in a decor way.
I don't know what your art skills are like but maybe turning the Breakfast nook into a little reading nook/art corner for painting/sketching because the lighting is so good in there.

Hey Drew! Coming along VERY nicely. As far as ideas for the downstairs kitchen goes: I would recommend making sure whatever reno decisions you make increase the value of your home and will work now, but also for whenever you decide to move out or lease/sale in the future. Based on your videos, it doesn't seem like you intend to move anytime soon. But, it seems like Lone Fox is really thriving and growing. Somewhere down the road you may want to move and tackle a new house project or just move to the Hills for the heck of it and you likely wouldn't want to do anything that would decrease the value of your home and make it less marketable. Things to consider residential real estate wise: Is your neighborhood conducive to a single-family setup, if so, what would a prospective buyer/leaser want that also works well with what you want now. I would recommend making the "Paren't's Bedroom" a full master suite. That's something both your parents and prospective buyers/(etc.) would appreciate in the future and would likely increase the value of your home (again, whether or not this is a wise choice will depend on the market and the neighborhood you're in. But, generally, doing something like that would increase value. Blow out the wall between the "Laundry" and the "parent's Bathroom" and make the suite have a fill walk in closet and large bathroom. Then, move the "Laundry" to that back, horizontal portion of the "Kitchen" It'll make the "Laundry" a little larger and likely will provide more storage in there and possibly a sink. A true, full laundry room that tenants looking for a potential 3-4 bedroom duplex unit would appreciate. Then, lastly, bump your "Kitchen" forward and eliminate the "Breakfast Nook". No need nowadays for casual and formal formal dining in a duplex unit. I.E. Removing the nook will likely not decrease your property value. Meaning if you decide to move out eventually, it will not cost you an arm and leg and time to revert it to a duplex and you could rent or sale for much more than you purchased the house for. All you would need to do is just close up the entry by the stairs again. Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

4:05 (the downstairs kitchen) would be amazing as a full bar w blenders for mixed drinks, beautiful barware, movie theater snacks, popcorn machine, cotton candy, a case or large apothecary jars for candy & drawers for backstock. ❤
And the butlers pantry, w all those cabinets, can also double as storage for the craft room…becuuuz the breakfast nook could be cornered off into a craft area. It would be amazing w all that sunshine. And it would be useful for both rooms to keep that sink. But the “storage room” would make an incredible craft room. You have the space & if you utilize the walls well, you can put an island/work table in the middle as your “crafting area”. It just makes the most sense! ❤Orrrrrr, the 1st fl breakfast nook could be a gaming area…board games, cards, poker, chess, etc.
I LOVE the pink bathroom. The more you can keep the original character, the better. To tie it in to the rest of the house, you can make the cabinets a walnut/darker color. The contract would be beautiful!

Just don’t totally gut the kitchen. For sure get rid of the appliances. If you ever decide to sell that place, having only an upstairs kitchen could be problematical. Also, for entertainment purposes, if you decide to have a decent size party, you’re not going to like having to carry stuff back-and-forth from upstairs kitchen to downstairs entertainment. Consider some warming drawers and a good size, mini fridge, that will go great with a snack bar. Make the Butler’s pantry your own, but leave the guts of it. It’s such a great house and so much of its beauty is tied to it history. Updating it is great but if you lose the history, The house will lose too much of the character. You’re doing an awesome job so far though. You’ve opened my eyes to some different ways to look at design.

Your downstairs seems to be split between "work" with all of the office and storage place, and "play", with the movie room and guest "pit". To continue the play area, the breakfast nook would make an excellent (and sophisticated!) cocktail bar to serve the movie room, and as another place for guests to enjoy. The downstairs kitchen could bridge work and play. You could style it as a garden/ floral design room. The tile and sink are perfect for that, and a display of florist's tools and materials could be stunning. You could use the butler's pantry as your crafts and paints storage, and use the floral design space as crafting space when you need it. Both floral design and crafting functions use the same type of space and tools. All of the above would very nicely suit the tone and evolving style of the house.

My parents have a plant room in their breezeway that my mom uses to tend to her house plants. where she uses the sink to soak plant roots that may be struggling, and to transfer pots and such. She also uses it for her floral displays that she purchases weekly from tj's and creates arrangements for fresh flowers around the house. It is also be used for paints and other crafts that my mom does, like painting her plant pots and such. My dad uses it to scrub his work boots and clean his hands after working in the yard.
