  • Using the BeebEm BBC Micro emulator -
This short tutorial shows you how to install a ROM in socket 12 of the BBC micro.
This particular ROM is of MoneyWise, a double-entry book-keeping system, and I have published another tutorial showing how to import the data file.
You can use the same method to install any sideways ROM image.
To transfer a data file from PC to floppy disc, see my other short video.

Thank you, that was a nice simple demonstration. Beebem may not run everything, but it is very "average user" friendly.

@Gamer PhamVanBinh You could try using Master mode and "SRLOAD filename 8000 4 Q" the ROM. If beebdroid doesn't have Master mode, use beeb-X available from the stardot forums, it is based on b-em and has many other features.
stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=242139 it is a great legacy from a lovely man.

The rom I downloaded is an SSD file and the game doesn't seem to recognize it. Do I need another file to make it work?

The SSD file is a disc image, not a ROM.
To load this image, see my other video "Creating a BBC floppy disc and transferring a file to it, using the BeebEm BBC micro emulator".
Of course the image may contain a ROM...
Please leave feedback as to what you found.

Thanks for this! I'm using a different BBC emulator, B-em, to have fun with the computer I coveted as a child but never had. If I didn't know that the command to run Money-Wise was "*DEBS", how would I find out? (The *HELP command doesn't seem to be as helpful as it might be.)

I have not yet released the MoneyWise rom into the wild, but intend to do so if there is enough interest. It will take a while to gather the user instructions and update them, so it's on my ToDo list. Were you just curious or did you want to use MW for your personal books?
I use the BBC micro daily to keep records and produce the accounts for 15 businesses (was 60 but I am part-retired now), then I send the data to my PC via the serial port where I use PC tax return software to submit the figures to HMRC.

@@richardlangner Sorry, I was just using MoneyWise an example. I've been trying out a few ROMs and have got some working using common-sense guesses as to what the "star command" (sorry if that's the wrong term for it - newb here) might be, but I was hoping there was some way to avoid the guesswork.

@@the8ctagon Type *HELP to list the roms commands e.g.* HELP D. will list the disk system commands. Probably best to find the documentation for each rom first to see what it does. The star command is known an OS (operating system) command.

@@richardlangner Thanks - that's really helpful. I did look for information on this elsewhere, but I was obviously looking in the wrong place. =)

Hi Richard, is the MoneyWise rom availible anywhere ?

    • @richardlangner
      @richardlangner  2 года назад

MoneyWise is used by me daily as it's simple and very reliable, although I've had to work around the date range limitation. If there is enough interest I will make the ROM image available and make some videos of how to use it.

@@richardlangner Maybe a post on Stardot will get some interest ! Did you make it a comercial package ? best wishes.
