I read a little while ago that a replica PCB for the BBC micro had been designed and built, as soon as I saw this I wanted one. Anyhow a few months pass and I found a posting on Twitter (A platform that I no longer use) that it is for sale. I ordered one from www.tindie.com...
This is what it looks like, and how I am going to tackle the project.
More to follow.

I really look forward to seeing the build come together. For my sins, I was the one who persuaded Bob to recreate this board. I supplied him with a stripped down issue 7 PCB that was used to recreate this edition and a working micro to test against. Even got my name on the back of the board which I'm thrilled about! I have built 3 of these boards now. I can report that everything works flawlessly, including PiTubeDirect, BeebSCSI, MMFS, Econet, Gotek etc. One issue I did have though was the relay listed in the BOM although having the correct footprint, it doesn't have the correct pin out and I have yet to find one that does. So I had to use one from a non working original BBC motherboard. However if you have no intention to ever use tapes then it can safely be left off of the board. Good luck.....it is a hell of a lot of soldering!!
I've been dreaming of this happening for years, esp since I built the Hybrid music 5000 / 2000 synth. I didn't know about the relay, I guess then i will have to remove it. I think I will probably have to re use the cassette din socket as well.
Hi Guys. The BOM relay, sorry, that's probably my fault and I thought I'd check that. Will try harder! The relay only does the motor control if your tape player has motor control. Tape works fine without it, it just can't start and stop the tape motor automatically.
@@iancudlip8387 No worries not a massive problem I can always rob the one out of my other board, but TBH as I cant get the din socket I dont think ill bother haha!
Good luck with putting it all together! I remember ECONET from school. We used to send each other rude messages over it, usually something to do with "Inflatable Ingrid" as Red Dwarf was big at the time.
Oooh! Input magazine in the official binder. I still have a complete collection somewhere in storage.
Fantastic I got rid of mine in the 90s but I re bought this one
Cool video. I just happen to have a BBC Model B and a D-20 too.
Haha how funny.
a nice board and nice project, I am looking forward to the next part :-) thanks for sharing this!
If I didn't already have a LOT of Beebs this would be a really tempting project..
Also can't you replace the ULA with a nULA? Well if you can find a nULA.
Also hello! Not seen you for years.
Just checked the forums, the VideoNuLA is still being made, currently £63 including p&p.... 4096 colours on a beeb too.
Awesome idea to use VideoNULA. Curious how the original display chip isn't available as a standard part. Similarly, Commodore VIC20 and C64 VIC and VICII chips not a common part but again clever folks are making equivalent for these parts.
Great channel and great project.
Look forward to seeing Teletext Elite from Mark Moxon being played on it.
I was never very good at elite I only ever crashed. Chuck e egg
That's properly interesting and a really good price too.
Always wanted a Beeb but they're so damn expensive, I might finally get one.
Looking forward to this 🙂
This board + 3D printed BBC case + VideoNULA + a keyboard that closely matches BBC micro = reincarnation of BBC micro.
As I point out in the video you really need a dead machine for the keyboard, case PSU etc to make this project viable. Else go to Retroclinic and get a nice resorted beeb from Mark.
Subscribed to this as I would like to attempt this. Is it possible to obtain all the chips caps and resistors in one package?
Where can i buy one of these fully assembled please 🙂
Would it work well with a 65F02 (FPGA version of the 6502)
Mr Murry would be proud
With his green wrigglies!
@@MatthewNorthMusic and bald head, nice to see you Mat.
I alway remember seeing you play at the parrot being quite pissed and pointing at the massive tape machine, while Animal looked on as I attempted to navigate a wobbly path to the bog and not nock the whole thing over, the good old days
Could you build an NTSC version? I live in Canada and am fascinated with that machine.
There was one made for NTSC though I have never seen one myself. Id suggest getting a RGB to HDMI converter.
You could always use a videoNULA!
If you can find one.
This series had better wind up with a play of Elite or Hopper or there's gonna be trouble...
Chuck E Egg or Hunchback are my Go to :)
@@MatthewNorthMusic Heathen.
To be fair you'd want a coprocessor for proper elite goodness and the original BBC flight sticks are one of the least ergonomic controllers ever made.
