I got into Hellboy after hearing he was going to be in Injustice 2. Hellboy is now my fav comicbook character and series of all time. Right about Action Comics and Fantastic Four
I absolutely love Hellboy, and the hardcover library editions proudly share bookshelf space at my house with Lovecraft, Tolkien, Poe, Melville, Barker, Crowley, and Doyle. As far as I’m concerned, it totally deserves it’s place amongst such literary luminaries. Watching this video, I kept thinking- “If I was there, I’d wanna tuck one of those pictures under my arm and make a run for the door. But which one?” So, I decided that it would be easier to just grab Mignola, tuck HIM under my arm, and do the same thing! I guess we’re just lucky that I wasn’t there after all.
The Mignola stuff are some of the best indie comics out there. I couldn't agree more with his view on the del toro flicks. Would've loved to have been at this gallery.
I know a little the Hellboy I saw the original Hellboy movie but never got into Hellboy until June of this year, buy reading the first Omnibus and then getting all three movies. Slowly becoming a fan of Hellboy
I would love to see some before Del Toro movies/After Del Toro movies statistics on how much they increased the sales of Mignola's books. My guess would be it was a significant jump, kinda like what the Gaurdians/Galaxy did for their comic franchise, which was pretty much a cult/indie comic that was loved by it's fans but little known.
Only thing that comes to mind is Ron Perlman interview on Colidder when he makes a DelToro impression... He says something about Hellboy readership going up from this number to THIS Number
It is very sad that the reboot is so bad...would have been nice if the 3rd and final installment of Del Toro's trilogy had been done and then they could have moved on to someone else. What I would really like to see is a Baltimore film...that would be amazing.
Thank you for your amazing recurring information, influence and also understanding to encourage my trip to turning out to be more consciously understanding and so spiritually connected.
Del Toro's version of hellboy wasn't good for the story, its scenario was too blockbuster-style, and did not match the deepness and subtlety of the comics. But the art was amazing and the second movie was very creative, at least he tried an original story, which was pretty good to me if you don't t think about the comics, and take it like something appart. Now, Hellboy 2019 was way too low budget for its ambitions, and the image treatment and art direction was TERRIBLY BAD. Even Hellboy's make up was an atrocity, seems it's gonna fall off his head during the all film... Also, they mixed up different storys form the comics, without any consideration of the logic of Mignola's timeline for the evolution of his saga and the character's developpement: that's taking some of the most important scenes of the comics and making them absurd and senseless. Del Toro's movies are bad adaptation but amazing pieces of art. The reboot is a bad adaptation AND a bad movie anyway. As for the Hellboy animated ones, they have a good atmosphere, but they are too shy and soft. Anyway, that's my opinion. I'm a big admirer of the Hellboy universe, especially the main saga which is very entertaining, very epic and has so much personnality and good writing. I think it's great material to adapt, but also quiet a challenge to really make it up to que comic's global quality. To me, the ideal thing would be a series, starting with hellboy's short adventures and making it bigger and bigger, following the comic's evolution. It would be good animated, or live but with enough budget and a really good artwork... Ok, I'm done.
"Hopefully it stays true..." That's why the creator of something, like Mignola with Hellboy, should have an IRON GRIP on everything that have a connection to your work and you have a final saying on EVERYTHING. Otherwise it looses its origin. Like many movies nowadays. Just like the movie 'Saving Mr. Banks', the creator of Mary Poppins had an iron fist to make the character be true/canon.
He supposedly has a wife... But I believe it's the HughJackman... Marry a woman who's mildly pretty and have no kids.... Have fun flings and dont tell the neighbors
And then the studio gave him a big ol' finger of doom and made a Del Toro clone with a silly nonsense song that doesn't fit the tone at all and some lame comedy...
I got into Hellboy through the first movie. I loved the first movie, it's top 5 comic movie for me but 2 is so awful I've only been able to watch it once because I was so disappointed with it. It failed in everything the first one did right.
I also like the second more than the first, if only because it was a lot more "fantasy", I guess. I still love both of them, though, and I'm freaking hyped for the reboot. Heck, I decided to start reading the comics in my excitement for it. I ordered the first omnibus and it should be at my place tomorrow :)
Man this guy is so humble! Hellboy is a true legend!

That is awesome man! He is so damn cool!
I know
Amen!!! Been a fan since the first movie came out….. I was 3!
I got into bellboy when I was nine or ten.
What a nice guy. Now I really want to get a book signed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film, I'm sad they didn't get chance to improve on it with a sequel
Min-YO-la. 😊

Hawk indie?
@@classica1fungus Dark Horse is an indie.
Paul Heap What makes Dark Horse an indie label?
Well Hellboy was made by either just Mike or a very small team
what are you talking about? hellboy is fucking huge. That's definitely not indie
I know a little the Hellboy I saw the original Hellboy movie but never got into Hellboy until June of this year, buy reading the first Omnibus and then getting all three movies. Slowly becoming a fan of Hellboy
The BPRD graphic novels focus on Abe, Liz, Daimio, Kraus and the other "sidekicks" well worth reading alongside the actual Hellboy titles
This guy is pure genius. I love his art style.
Sadly, the final product feels like a Deadpool take on Del Toro's movies. Except nowhere as funny.
Exactly
Yeah
At least the Del Toro movies were good
I gaurentee mike gave a lot of notes for the new Hellboy movie that were ignored
Oh how right you were

the actor that played the original hellboy movie wanted a third one,but than gave up since realize is too old,was good a third one
And here we are... the new one is out.
Mike Mignola > Perfect
Great artist👏😎
Thank you!

Ok, I'm done.
Shame the new Hellboy movie turned out to be crap. Ah, screw it.

Not letting Del Toro write and direct a third was a crime eclipsed only by the abysmal mess that followed.
No Gullermo in the BG?
Who knew Mike was FAAAAABULOUS!?

Frik it, I'm a put it out there. Next David Harbur movie should be Hellboy Wake The Devil. That's gotta be the best Hellboy story.....right? Cj
where is this exposition ?
In New York City at the society of illustrators
@@jberwin how do we keep ourselves posted when these happen?
Neil is a great director but I believe he didn't have full control.
How much do graphic novelist's get paid?????????
Fuck all unless you make it big
Mignola is jealous of Del Toro.
Sadly they made a bad film of an already legendary GDT film series. GDT should come back with Mike for an animated series on Netflix
I was just thinking about how it would be amazing to have a series. I think it would be awesome. Maybe finish where we left off in the movie.
New movie , SHITE
That bored af voice... 👌
And then the studio gave him a big ol' finger of doom and made a Del Toro clone with a silly nonsense song that doesn't fit the tone at all and some lame comedy...
Rodshark75 He helped make the new movie. It’s more like the comics than the del Toro ones.
You know the new one follows the comics so much more than the Del Toro ones right?
Big ol finger of doom 😂
2:13 Why take a frigging picture? There's beautiful art in front of you, and what do they do? They take pictures. Be in the moment, dammit.
You ruined what was once an amazing movie

Karama is hot. Oh I love the art too.
