John Byrne's X-Men run is what really fall in love with comic books. His Alpha Flight, Superman, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four are all great reads with great art. Mad love for this man's art.
John Byrne's 1970's run on The Uncanny X-Men, with Chris Claremont and Terry Austin, will go down in comic book history as one of the most iconic. That X-Men team will always be my favorite!
@Vad Wanuu\ I went even further than that, I was a fan of his SHE HULK books! The only thing I hated was his West Coast Avengers, not because of the art but because of what he did to The Vision, who had previously been one of my favorite characters! But one "clunker" out of so much success ain't bad at all!
@@@pulsarstargrave256: I tend to think (it can happen!) that if JB was allowed to finish his Avengers West Coast run as he had originally intended (not that I'm privy to that bit of info), certain naysayers would more than likely be singing different tunes... Maybe?
Naw, he WRECKED The Vision and ruined the hard work of Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart and other writers who busted their butts making The Vision a compelling character! He single handedly thought Wanda The Scarlet Witch shouldn't be married to "...a TOASTER!" And a lot of writers after him started treating Viz with similar contempt! I was angry at Byrne for a LONG time after that and wouldn't go near his Wonder Woman tenure because of it! Cartoonist ERIK LARSEN created a character called "Johnny Redbeard" who would work on creatures created by others, turn them upside down, and then leave them to their own devices or for someone else to fix! Hmmm, sure reminded me of Mr. Byrne! I started to forgive him when he started creating his own characters and books!
This guys collection is amazing, i love how every big name in the industry is a Kirby fan, because they know the true talent behind what now is marvel. thanks for letting us have a peek John and SYFY
In my younger years all I want is the edginess and grittiness that is abound in comics of 90s and 2000s, I want hard hitting actions because I am not a child. But lately what really charmed me is the naivete and good natured charm of old comics by Kirby, Claremont, Simonson, and Byrne. I love its lightheartedness that sometimes can be mistaken for stagnation.
Said to myself, if I ever sell all of my comics. The only thing I'd ever keep was my Kirby FF's and my COMPLETE run of Byrne FF. Which, in my opinion was the most AWESOME run ever.
Love it so much. Byrnes stuff back in the 80's was absolute magic. Loved seeing a video of his studio. Please have more comic artists studios. It was fantastic.
I picked up 2 pages of Byrne art off Jim Warden last year, one from Superman #10 one from my personal favorite run of his Fantastic Four from issue #285 and a commission of The Thing. These are by far some of my most treasured items in my comic collection. He's been my artistic hero since I was a kid and still is today. MORE BYRNE PLEASE! :)
Thank you for this video. I don't think John Byrne does many interviews, so this was nice to see. I really wish he would an annual for marvel, it just might bring me back to comices,
Obiwan Kenobi Others have tried, for rather mixed results. But, there is just something special about Byrne's work on the book. His run really is the best.
Do you know that is a reference to an X-Men series he IS drawing! Unfortunately it's just a personal thing he is doing and sadly may never be seen outside his studio :(
Thank you for this wonderful video and look into my absolute favorite living comic book artist's studio! In my opinion, John Byrne is the only writer/artist that successfully captured the look and feel of every Stan Lee and/or Jack Kirby created comic book character. I have bought and loved everything that he has ever worked on, and have never been disappointed by the quality of the story and art.
john byrne's she-hulk... incredible art at the time along with all the other stuff he was doing. stared at his linework for hours and spent hours more trying to imitate it. shading, hatching, etc. thanks, john for the inspiration.
That's for sure! What a gift and a blessing it is to be doing something you love and are a fan of as a living! That's one of the big reasons why I want to write comic books(as well as books). John Byrne is such a big inspiration for me and reading so many of the comics he has worked on are some of my best memories.
I guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Jeffery Bryson thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
What a fun and interesting interview. It would be incredibly engaging to see and hear about all of the other pieces too. Just thrilled that we've gotten to see this much! Thanks for doing this segment JB.
Without question my absolute favorite! His imagery married to his story line created a graphical echo chamber that takes me back so vividly! ...Hellfire Club! ...Dark Phoenix! WOW!
I just subscribe to your channel because of John Byrne I've seen your channel before but I never subscribed until now. He and Alex Ross are two of my all-time graphic artist.
Wow! Great to see Mr. Byrne still kicking and very much alive after all these years. My absolute favorite since I was first introduced to him in X-Men #133, and surely one of the all-time greats!
How amazing, what an inspiring video! I wish I would be like him when I get older, so passionate about comics and all of that. He's an artist, but also a fan from the heart. I wanna meet him
Seeing that Superman Annual brings me back to being a kid. I was introduced to superheroes much later but I grew up reading The Dandy, Topper and Beano. I forgot how annuals aren't very common outside of Ireland and the UK (maybe Australia too idk) so seeing them was great.
Yeah, I can relate to John. I remember reading the Marvel Team-Up multi-issue sage with Scarlet Witch, Moon Dragon, Vision, Dr. Doom and, of course, Spiderman. That totally blew my young brain away.
I think that I read somewhere that John Byrne was the one who created the iconic look of the giant Phoenix effect that surrounded Jean Grey/Phoenix whenever she exerted her full power in the pages of the Uncanny X-Men.
Back in the day in the 90 a magazine that i used to collect called wizard did an article on him i loved that magazine it was called wizard the guide to comics i wonder if its still around
I fucking love John Byrne😂it’s the bit where he’s like “I’ll get Neal to ink the x-men comic I’m not doing” and his face is just blank as he stares of into the distance like “oh shit, yeah that’s a good idea!”😂
John Byrne's X-Men run is what really fall in love with comic books. His Alpha Flight, Superman, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four are all great reads with great art. Mad love for this man's art.
1000%
I think what I like most about reading a John Byrne book is that feeling that the creator really loves what he is doing.
You can tell current Marvel creators don't really care; they just want that Hollywood writing gig or the option money.
John Byrne's 1970's run on The Uncanny X-Men, with Chris Claremont and Terry Austin, will go down in comic book history as one of the most iconic. That X-Men team will always be my favorite!
Agreed. They were like the Led Zeppelin of comics.
Growing up in the 80's, i was a HUGE Byrne fan. FF, Alpha Flight, Superman. I collected everything i could get my hands on.
Me too!
@Vad Wanuu\ I went even further than that, I was a fan of his SHE HULK books! @@pulsarstargrave256 West Coast Avengers were my fav avengers by far

One of the great artist and minds in comic book history
Long live John Byrne!!
More John Byrne interviews, please!
He is probably my most favorite of all comic artists.
Loved the way Byrne designed the clothes of the characters. It had so much detail on it. They felt like real people.
John Byrne is probably my favourite artist. His Superman/Batman: Generations book changed my life.
Mr. Byrne was my biggest comic book art hero when I was a kid! And I Still highly respect him today!!
This guys collection is amazing, i love how every big name in the industry is a Kirby fan, because they know the true talent behind what now is marvel. thanks for letting us have a peek John and SYFY
It's nice to see John Byrne be so passionate about comics while being interviewed by a passionate interviewer 🤙
John Byrne is one of my favorite comic book artists! His skills and talent make him one of the best!
Byrne is my comic hero. Just a perfect artist and storyteller.

Everything John did was golden. Loved all of it.
Great to see JB getting the so much love he deserves FANTASTIC!!
My goodness, crazy collection! I look forward to the day when I have commissionS from John Byrne! That's a comic book goal!
John Byrne's sketchbook that was published some time in the 80's was one of the biggest inspirations of my life.
a John Byrne FF was one of my first comic book experiences that I remember
Byrne is the reason started drawing comics. Thanks for this!
Thank you for this video. I don't think John Byrne does many interviews, so this was nice to see. I really wish he would an annual for marvel, it just might bring me back to comices,
One of my favorite titles Mr. Bryne worked on was Alpha Flight!! It was such a good title, and the characters were complex and flawed.
Yes no-one else could do the Alpha Flight unfortunately.
Obiwan Kenobi Others have tried, for rather mixed results. But, there is just something special about Byrne's work on the book. His run really is the best.
Me too. I recently tried selling my comic collection from the 80's. But I held onto the Alpha Flight John Byrne series. It was the best.
"I'll just get Neal Adams to ink that X-men book I'm not drawing" omg- MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
Do you know that is a reference to an X-Men series he IS drawing! Unfortunately it's just a personal thing he is doing and sadly may never be seen outside his studio :(
John Byrne has always been the Best comic book artist ever to me, with uncanny Xmen and many other books he did.
I grew up loving his art ... one of the best👍
Wow! John Byrne's studio is incredible! His collection of original comic book artwork is mind-blowing!

My second favorite artist is George Perez co-creator Marv Wolfman revising the NEW Teen Titans.

John Byrne is like Leonardo da Vinci , Michelangelo ... A Great Genius .
Awesome!!! I love the interview and especially the last part where Mr Byrne is saying "Mine..."
When I grow up, I want to be John Byrne. Seeing that I'm already over 50, I better get busy.
John Byrne was the first crush i had in a Marvel artist. He was gorgeous when he was young.❤
This is now my favorite youtube video of all time...
Another great video guys. John's art changed my life for sure, X-men,FF, Supes,She-Hulk! There's nobody like him in the world.
How amazing, what an inspiring video! I wish I would be like him when I get older, so passionate about comics and all of that. He's an artist, but also a fan from the heart. I wanna meet him
This was fantastic!
My artistic hero.
His style was so clean and a cross between two faves Kirby and Adams. He and George Perez defined 1980's Comicbook Art.
JOHN BYRNE !!!! SYFY, give us more, please.
The Greatest Artist of all time
This is such a treat. Thank you!
Not long enough! Byrne is a legend.
As a marvel maniac from way back, this was great. Loved it.

Great artist and writer.
I wish they concentrated more on his original art collection. What we saw was impressive.
John Byrne is an amazing artist! And I can tell he is smart. He has to ask and answer most of the interesting questions.
This guy is one of the icon artist in X-Men 80s
Just finished reading the whole Next Men run by John. Truly AWESOME!!

Thanks for all, Genius!!! The Greatest.
Peace and blessings to Mr. Batton Lash.
Have to say i became a Supes fan because of Byrne.
John, nobody better than you
The influential person that lead me to buy comics based on the artist/penciller. If John's artwork was in the book, I most likely bought it.
Back in the day in the 90 a magazine that i used to collect called wizard did an article on him i loved that magazine it was called wizard the guide to comics i wonder if its still around
Awesome collection
