It's September 1940, and the German Luftwaffe has unleashed hell on the British public. You along with thousands of others, huddle together in the London Underground while German bombs rain down on your city from the night sky. The women and children scream in terror, as every bomb threatens to breach the street above, sending an avalanche of rubble into the underground. You somehow fall asleep despite the pounding of the enemy's
relentless onslaught above. But sleep is of little comfort when it leads from one nightmare, only to be greeted by another upon waking.

The Blitz:
In the 150 years since its establishment, the London Underground has played an important role in the country’s history. And none more important than its role during the Blitz. The time known as the Blitz was the sustained aerial bombing of Britain during World War Two. From the months of September 1940 to May 1941, such raids all around the country killed up to 43,000 civilians during this eight-month period.
During both World Wars, the trains on the underground still operated. By day these were used to get around the city. But by night 130, 000 people would use the stations as a shelter from the bombs. Liverpool Street Station was a popular choice for many and people sheltered in the incomplete and disused sections of the Central Line extension. Initially, the government was opposed to this use for the underground, but in 1940, Winston Churchill agreed to the development of the Aldwych station into an air raid shelter. Provisions were even made for sleeping bunks for those who sought refuge.
Despite the clear benefits of sheltering underground, the sheer determination of the bombing on London caused a number of fatalities at stations across the city. In 1940 during the month of October, sixty-six people were killed when a bomb exploded above the cross passage between two platforms at Balham station. The East London station Bethnal Green also suffered losses, when 173 people were crushed trying to enter the station to take refuge.
Conditions were extremely cramped underground, with people sleeping on escalators, and platforms and even hanging hammocks across the rails themselves. But, in true British fashion, the affair was very civilized. A ticket system was put into place so that people were able to reserve a space underground, as well as food trains and refreshment vendors and the use of chemical toilets whilst at the station.
Goodnight everyone😊😴💤💤
My grandmother lived through this, young girl in London during the blitz
Awesome, yours is the most unique ambience channel out there, i love ww2 stuff. this one is pretty terrifying. i was listening to this in bed. my gf thinks i have issues 😄
Exactly my thoughts
Thanks a lot, I appreciate that!
Hahah dude
Excellent! Only thing threw it off for me was the police or fire truck sirens at 1:33. They sound too modern and also not British. Sirens in England, at least back then had more of a 'neee narrr! neee narrr!' sound. Awesome work otherwise, one is so THERE.
Ngl this is terrifying
I want people down here w me! Damn this is scary asf!😮
5:02 you should explain your ww2 helicopter over London sir.
I need historical correct ambiente for my sleep. :)
A quick google search and you’d learn something. Cmon man it took me 15 seconds…
@@ImThatGuy-th2rmNo, he’s got a point. World War II did have helicopters, and the Nazis did use them, but I can’t find anything which suggests they were used in the Blitz.
@@ImThatGuy-th2rmthere were, categorically, NO Luftwaffe *helicopters* around London during the Blitz…
@@thegreatkingofevilganondor1500 I guess yeah if you wanna be technical. You are correct. But I think we should let the internet win as we all learned something pretty cool. I know I did :)
@@je6874 alright, alright, you win sir. I was wrong. But I was kinda right, lmao.
Yall know there's prolly some guy sleeping with this on ?💀
I am that guy lmao, I find it weirdly really calming, it knocks me out
Not some guys but some maniacs 😂😂
🫣
@ashleybarnes367 man what ?! 😳
@@FxveFxvewhat is wrong with you... BUDDY?
This is pure fkn horror jesus
I reckon if you played this one to all the 90 to 100 year olds where roughly children during the Blitz they would have nightmares for weeks on end.
It wasn’t ridiculous like this. It was pretty quiet aside from the rumbles people just waited until it was over to get “back on with it”, a very British thing.
What the guy above me said ^^
😄Thanks
Imagine if that would really happen i might become deaf
Let's hope not. Thanks for watching!
I dont think they screamed like this, in the underground in London. They might have been scared, but they kind of got used to going in shelters every day. This would have been full of people in there as well.
It's no surprise the London Underground is one of the most haunted places in the world
True, thanks for listening
I once played real ww2 blitz bombing noises. Which were actually recorded during the blitz. I played it on loudspeak in the house. Let me tell you! Im never trying that again! My next door neighbour thought my house had a gas explosion. It was the scariest noises I have ever experienced. Dont try this at home!!
Unique
Thank you
Nice try, but seriously? The air raid sirens during the Blirz didn't go on throughout the bombing. The siren would sound for around 5 minutes (well before the bombers were overhead) then stop. My Nan who lived through the Blitz always said the most terrifying sound in the world was the silence between the air raid siren and the first bombs. Also what is it with the helicopter sounds? Yes, the Germans used helicopters/gyrocopters but only from mid 1943 onwards and only in observation roles.
I'll put it down to poetic license. Thanks for stopping by:)
Bro this makes me feel like I am in the underground💀
As intended, thanks for listening
@@ambientescapade thank you for making these
Dude 😂.. imagine a y’all’s trying to sleep to this one
This seems like something in a horro movie

It was supposed to be scary, thanks for watching!
