Is it just me is this really just 2nd Life 2.0? The Facebook perspective seems lame, however I can actually see the use of the basic Nvidia functions on digital twins
Nvidia's Omiverse is only the plumbing/infrastructure that enables Facebook, and the millions of other developers to design their unique version for the Metaverse. Nvidia offers Servers, display, AI scene generation, software infrastructure, avatars, AI animation, audio, translation and visual enhancements, and real technology to deliver immersive experiences. Nvidia have been running their own "3D collaborative space" with digital twins for companies like BMW, Lockheed Martin, Bentley Systems since 2018.
Omniverse seems likes it's aimed at professionals and people who are looking to be productive , Metaverse seems like it intends to distract people even though they claim to want to make working easier.
The BIG problem with this is one with any technology that tries too hard: If it substitutes real life, it doesn't work. It has to add to real life to be a success, not substitute it. Apparently depression and anxiety cases skyrocketing since the dawn of social media haven't taught Zuck anything. All this is sounding more and more like an isolationist dystopia by the minute.
Ur right. If can do work, hangout with friends and literally anything by just putting on a headset then I'm sure most people will not leave their homes in months.
Yeah, I worked in VR until recently. Except for some of the kids, most testers did remove their headsets after minutes. Unless they rethink vr goggles and stuff, Metaverse is just a prototype.
Correct, i think what meta and omniverse are doing is to create a slave of thier companies, they are trying to create a habbit that is not required when there are better problems to solve
Lmfao bro, do you drive at night? Do you wear glasses? Led lights doing more damage than you realize. So is that unshaded light bulb that burnt out your peripheral vision. The light par values of a vr headset dont cause eye damage. TVs from the 90s were worse for us and I grew up watching my family glued to that cable box. They arent blind, but they all desperately need glasses tho, they all also don't use shades for light sources that cause damage.
I've spent 6 straight hours in vr skyrim, and I never spend less than 40 minutes playing dirt rally vr. I'm a middle aged man. Idk how people can stare right at light bulbs but you cant handle goggles with tvs in them that are designed to be looked at. You know what's not designed to be looked at? All those unshaded lights that are causing blindness.

The problem I have with Zuck's idea is that, in his metaverse, we're all using a facebook login to do anything, even if we're just puttering around in our "homespace". Nvidia's omniverse idea feels like what's gonna happen if people keep investing in NFTs.

New tech like this will allow us to reflect on our physical reality differently. Concepts needed to create the virtual world will bring new vocabulary. I believe New Science discoveries/rediscoveries (physical world) will reveal a radically different reality and we will be able to digest it easier using that new vocabulary
@CosmoSapien That is a false assumption of what Capitalism is about. These modern corporations do not represent Capitalism. They have become "Oligarchies" and there is a huge difference between the two. Capitalism is about individual rights and liberties to where the individual is able to keep the profits of their labor and achievements. Someone needs to go back and read up on some American History. The Capitalism that the founding fathers fought for is not the same thing as the interpretation that Modern Mass Media is trying to convince you that it is. I would never trade in Capitalism for Socialism!

Metaverse looks infantile compared to Omniverse. While both of these basically look like Second Life with a "work feature" addon, Nvidia is definitely going in the more interesting, open and realistic direction.
The truth is we already exist in 2D virtual universes already, with companies building ecosystem solutions. Meta, Microsoft and now Nvidia are providing infrastructure for these businesses to pivot into 3D virtual universe by providing the build tools. This is so that once these technologies (VR, AR and MR) become mass accepted by the public, they would already have an existing solution in place. imo I’m loving Nvida’s approach though

I wasn't excited about the metaverse until I watched Nvidia's presentation, many more use cases there. Combined with Blockchain tech like RNDR the future is looking crazy. Facebook is like a tumultuous ex, no matter how promising a new relationship looks with them (which it doesn't in this case) there is to much damage done in the relationship to ever make it work.
well since you put it this way, let me tell you : be careful who the "ex" really is in this case. fb might only be the hand of the ex. imagine an ex with interchangeable parts.
I think, upon all the three (meta, Microsoft and Nvidia), Apple is going to be big and disruptive. I'm not an apple fan, but hear me out. 1. Apple has face ID, and they are not getting rid of it, because for metaverse to work, they need face tracking. And for avatars, they already have animoji. 2. For a long time we are hearing a rumour that they are working on augmented reality glasses. Rumours say that they work by having every processing done on iPhone. So the device is going to be lightweight and practical. 3. More people will get into Apple's metaverse because of their fanbase
there's this blog by an analyst that theorized on this idea in such immense detail even before all the metaverse hype came in. I seem to have forgotten it because I remembered bookmarking it but I can't find it anymore :(
And a lot of people won't get into it because of who they are. No doubt whatever Apple does will be big, but their presence alone will create competition
Lets further disconnect ourselves from reality by escaping into a world where house prices are even higher and the price for luxury is even further divided by those that manipulate the systems early and those that were too slow to act. Social spaces curated in fantastical ways.... hardly unique or applicable in any meaningful way outside personal expression and adding load lag to importing other peoples assets into a meeting. Meta is targeting the VR playspace crowd. This seems highly artificial and disingenuous with the silly cake building animation and stapled smiles on all the cartoon avatars. Nvidia targeting working professionals who want to improve both real world and virtual spaces.
Nvidia's Omniverse has more commercial use. It creates a digital replica of the real world like city, building, places, factory. Unllike Metaverse it is more like social interaction in a virtual reality but does not really have the actual environent. With Omniverse, it can manipulate object in different environment with a digital copy of the actual world.
These centralized metaverses may not even communicate with other metaverses at some point. That’s going to be dangerous when we’re living in these things. Bridges are needed for all of life.
It’s just the next evolution of the internet. I’m guessing you use a smartphone everyday? Well this is the next step which is replacing smartphones with AR glasses and video game consoles/tvs with VR goggles.
I find it odd that at least three companies (Meta, Microsoft and Nvidia have all announced their alternative reality projects at once. Seems like a coordinated effort. There’s something bigger at “play”.

Nothing is bigger at play, these companies are usually working together or working on similar thing. Microsoft and NVIDIA collaborated on most dx12 features.
Nvidia seems to be focused on creators while Facebook is focused on users. It will be interesting to see the outcome on these different directions. I except that Facebook will be great at generating early interest if they can overcome their bad rep regarding user data and security, however I believe Nvidia will build a rock solid platform, drawing interest from major creators. Those creators will will do the real marketing, drawing the masses to the metaverse. Players like Microsoft and Sony are notoriously bad at creating good social environments and google doesn't seem to be making a play. Other so-called metaverse companies seem to be a bit gimmicky, so I expect Meta and Nvidia will go head to head in this race. I predict that Meta will sprint and lose momentum, and Nvidia will pace itself for the long run and the win.
I feel like we should introduce AI into the omniverse instead of the real world. Because, they'll be doing real world applications and, doing things within real reality but, contained in the omniverse. Yeah, it can become sentient, and try to escape but, how would it know what real reality was?
There are ways for an AI which has useful real world information to know something like that. Also, would an AI without internet access even be useful in this world? There are also some fairly mathematical ways for an AI to check the passage of time. Also, if the AI can become sentient and try to escape, why would you expect it to not happen to get to know this while interacting with a billion clueless humans? Really if an AI has general intelligence and sentience (a tall order, to be sure), I don't think there's any sure-fire way of containing it
@@user-sl6gn1ss8p well ofc but, it's not hard to replicate real world physics and applications like you're saying. We do it in video games everyday. Like yes it would know that the building exist around it. but, wouldn't know that an earth existed. Sorta kinda like, different dimensions in a sense. and, time is relevant in every aspect so it'd literally jus be calculating time lmfao. I don't think it could do much with knowing time. and, he wouldn't be able to escape because, he wouldn't know which world was real. Wait until the collective consciousness and, knowledge expands we'll start to understand deeper ig. It most def is a way to contain it. If our technology get's good like its supposed to then, we could literally simulate its own universe so it's stuck and jus lives in the world. @@AR-mx5tc Videogame simulations, including the matrix UE experience, are a long way from "replicating physics". They're impressive and do their job fairly well, but they're still quite limited - it just so happens that the products build out of them (usually) know those limitations and are built to avoid showing them, while capitalizing on what actually can be done. Also, if you want this AI to be useful to matters in the outside world, it will need information and connection. Also also, it would be in contact and "communicating" with a lot of people. People who will also want to use the internet inside this world, by the way, so again you have a supposedly generally intelligent AI which can become sentient and might want to "jump out", by the very definition of your scenario, which can't know about the internet despite living in a (virtual) world where the internet exists. If an AI has general intelligence, a lot of resources, is capable of reaching sentience and is to be in contact with a lot of people and have useful applications for the world, it won't be easy, if at all possible, to fool it about it being boxed.
With both Omniverse and Metaverse coming and all these big massive corporations trying to push and funded to reach it faster. VR is gonna boom fast. Virtual Reality is the future of society and one can imagine what the virtual world will look like once it is matured 5, 10, 20 even 50 years into the future.
Meta is more entertainment-based which is why it will most likely gather more users and buyers. But practically speaking Omniverse is way better off in terms of productivity and real world use.
I think that both platforms will have benefits. One thing for sure, this will help stop the spread of Covid 19, avoiding sick calls, saving gas, employee bickering, avoiding office building space, etc.

It's not right to compare these things at all. Omniverse is a tool for creators, mostly, it's an enterprise-grade ecosystem of tools and Facebook (Meta) Metaverse is a consumer - level of product The first is used to create some TV Series with virtual worls and characters animated with Audio2Face and other tools specifically created for various industries such Automative, the second one is just everything-in-one-piece thing we know from such projects as VRChat, Virtual office apps and VR multiplayer games
Omniverse seems interesting, albeit they seem to be overselling it a bit in this presentation. From the tutorials they released it seems less like an all encompassing virtual world and more like a collaboration tool for creating 3D environments. Which means it will likely have to compete with Unreal Engine, which is already being used for similar use cases while being more versatile. Still, it looks very interesting.
Nvidia role is more about providing the tech to create things like Omniverse. UE could be one of the tool to create things like Omniverse. Similar like how you still need gpu from nvidia (or others) to run games or 3D rendering from unreal engine. But sometimes even when the hardware and software exist some people did not know what to do with it. So nvidia create something like Omniverse to showcase what you can do with their hardware and software. For the client side they can take the "template" that nvidia already build or create their own thing from the scratch. Either way will work for nvidia as long as they buy into nvidia solution.
Basically this is just a prediction of things that (may) come in next 50 years or so right. I don't think we will get devices that are capable of doing these stuffs any time soon. Even though if its coming right now a high end Gaming PC might be the only thing capable of running this, I don't think my flip phone will ever be able to handle these.
Have you been paying attention to the current innovations in quantum computing? They are getting smaller and easier to build, cheaper and the amount of qubits are nearly doubling each iteration... Just wait until this technology improves and advances and gets thrown into the mix with current A.I. and Machine Learning Algorithms... Eventually you may not need a "GPU" to do all of the pre and post processing to where it'll just do the drawing or rendering itself where most of the calculations for the 3D Scene, its lighting and shading, and the physics would be done on cloud servers.

Omniverse Duh 🙄, it's not still obsessed with the one that went ew you're creepy leave me alone and then created a social media frenzy that the world went crazy over and still stalking over even though you're married.
My thoughts on this whole metaverse/omniverse situation. There's so many use case for this. Short term: Virtual business meetings, virtual catch up with friends, virtual ecommerce experience (trying on then buying straight from thr virtual store), etc. Long term (hear me out, this may be a huge stretch): Solution to immortality. Imagine this technology evolving to be able to code a human (emotions, character, memories, likes, dislikes, etc) into the virtual universe. Even when the physical body and mind dies in the real world, we still exist in the virtual one. And there's no limit to land capacity, so there won't be issues of overpopulation etc. Plus points the greatest minds of the past can still interact with the greatest minds in the current, which will expedite overall human evolution. That's the direction I hope to see this move towards. May not be in my lifetime, but hopefully in my children's or children's children's one
Immortal human beings sounds very horrible. Everyone on earth who gets to be born has to die no matter what you have achieved or how much money you have. I can see a average lifespan of 150 years in the future to be possible. But I don’t want people (probably rather rich people) to be around for 10s or 1000s of generations because bad ideas and evil plans are spread more easily around when you have infinite time. Sure, people like Einstein could benefit the human race extremely but for what purpose when you are trapped in some metal casing anyway. People that dream of immortality don’t factor in that you are living longer than your friends, family, literally billions of people while you can only suffer for eternity. We are here for a reason but also to die at some point. That’s what makes life wonderful and to keep going and motivated.
It is hilarious how they portrait the "physical world" as being the same size as the Internet or smaller than Ominverse. No scientist would ever do it, because it is obvious that the amount of data and objects in the physical world is tremendous. Any single patch of desert has more information that the entire Internet. Yet they go on to say "this new world will be larger than the physical world". Lmao. These computer guys should really go outside and spend a few hours studying some ants in the dirt - then they might see (though unlikely, cause they are not going to be looking) how real world is vastly more complex than any of their digital fantasies.
@@tiramisucocolands7952 I highly doubt, and if they will be, it will be the usual bullcrap: there is not a single "virtual" world that has anything close to biological systems we have in reality. Graphic artists are notoriously bad in depicting any animal that's not a pet. And even when they do, those animals are still behaving like a biologist's nightmare, like all those wolves that attack a player for no reason in every game from RDR to the Witcher.

Is it just me is this really just 2nd Life 2.0? The Facebook perspective seems lame, however I can actually see the use of the basic Nvidia functions on digital twins
Indeed
Nvidia's Omiverse is only the plumbing/infrastructure that enables Facebook, and the millions of other developers to design their unique version for the Metaverse. Nvidia offers Servers, display, AI scene generation, software infrastructure, avatars, AI animation, audio, translation and visual enhancements, and real technology to deliver immersive experiences. Nvidia have been running their own "3D collaborative space" with digital twins for companies like BMW, Lockheed Martin, Bentley Systems since 2018.
UE5 changed everything too
Omniverse seems likes it's aimed at professionals and people who are looking to be productive , Metaverse seems like it intends to distract people even though they claim to want to make working easier.
Well Omniverse is pushing us more to Star Trek.
The BIG problem with this is one with any technology that tries too hard:
If it substitutes real life, it doesn't work.

All this is, is vr chat with gta online shark cards.

The problem I have with Zuck's idea is that, in his metaverse, we're all using a facebook login to do anything, even if we're just puttering around in our "homespace". Nvidia's omniverse idea feels like what's gonna happen if people keep investing in NFTs.

What about Elon Musk and his vision for AI
Nope. Nvidia is focused on developers. Facebook is focused on Facebook.
It's ironic how the people criticising Omniverse/Metaverse in the comments are using the 2D version to do so. 😂
Really if an AI has general intelligence and sentience (a tall order, to be sure), I don't think there's any sure-fire way of containing it
I wonder if the aliens running our simulation feel the same way?
@@user-sl6gn1ss8p well ofc but, it's not hard to replicate real world physics and applications like you're saying. We do it in video games everyday. Unreal engine 5's "The Matrix" is the perfect example. We can build an entire world around it that seems real but isn't real. The physics is most likely gonna be/seem the same so it'd jus think it's reality was the real one and, it not knowing that it's being watched in a sense. (p.s, i don't think it's a good idea to introduce them to the internet cause, that really can turn out bad in ways we couldn't hope to conceive yet.) Wait until the collective consciousness and, knowledge expands we'll start to understand deeper ig.
It most def is a way to contain it. If our technology get's good like its supposed to then, we could literally simulate its own universe so it's stuck and jus lives in the world. We can literally put it in the matrix with other A.I and, it wouldn't even know. Sorta how we are now.

@@smithhoowe lowkey probably lmfao. I wouldn't doubt it because literally 75% of the people around us are the same if you think about it. Unconscious and Unaware of alot going on.

The first is used to create some TV Series with virtual worls and characters animated with Audio2Face and other tools specifically created for various industries such Automative,
the second one is just everything-in-one-piece thing we know from such projects as VRChat, Virtual office apps and VR multiplayer games
I like Linden Lab's approach with the Second Life
Basically this is just a prediction of things that (may) come in next 50 years or so right.

These computer guys should really go outside and spend a few hours studying some ants in the dirt - then they might see (though unlikely, cause they are not going to be looking) how real world is vastly more complex than any of their digital fantasies.

@@tiramisucocolands7952 I highly doubt, and if they will be, it will be the usual bullcrap: there is not a single "virtual" world that has anything close to biological systems we have in reality. no matter how cool is your world, u still need REAL food from your KITCHEN into ur REAL mouth
Is this ben 10 omniverse??
What crypto for Nvidia??
Facebook had one simple goal ever since it got created. At first it was achieved by accident, now not only did they succeed at it, they're capitalizing on it:
To break us apart
you do realize the metaverse is not something that can be owned by one company or entity facebook is builiding their own part of the metaverse.there will be 100000x others to do the same. .. we are simulating reality into another dimiension wich A.i will come to life and not only that that Ai will be "alive" conciouss" wtv u wnna call it. in the meta verse and in our real world...this fractal simulation reality goes deep
So it's an escapable future because very big companies decide so
It looks like "Ready Player One" already, but there's a con about it. People will have mental health issues and be pretty lonely in the real world, too. I don't buy it.
This is so sad. If this is commercially successful it literally translates to... a LOT of people have no lives.
Not more than that at last you become a battery
This can only be a good thing. Right?.....Right?!
Ah yes, let's incentivize loneliness even further. What could go wrong?
Comfort and security and "progress" is always sold in this manner, in exchange for your freedom. This is soft tyranny, waiting to harden.
Not in AR. You will still be in the office with your co workers

Not when it's illegal to work outside of your home because of COVID
Regardless of the early Internet or the current VR, none of them can simulate human feelings. Only after new breakthroughs in brain research can simulate various human sensations (taste, pain, touch, etc.), The Metaverse can enter the new the height of.
We live in 3d; so, if I go to a 7-11 and buy a cup of coffee I'm already buying a 3d thing.
Great Vid!
You can have anything
Mark: I want my same grey cloths 😂
wow those avatars are sure next generation there
Has omniverse its own crypto? Or how I pay when it is time?
*It's look awesome because they didn't show how irritating Ads will be and how their company will have all of ur data.*
I'm with NVIDIA on this one. Don't blame me, it's just logical to side with the humans. Plus I see a lot of new income streams for developers everywhere without necessarily being locked in any singular companies ecosystem.
What happens to our perception of time??
