Getting advice from financial advisors, like Della Martin, can be a smart move to reshape your portfolio. They have the expertise to help you make informed decisions.
really makes you wonder if they pulled those charades in the zuckerberg hearings on purpose. It might be just cos i havent looked into crypto much but to me it is far more confusing than facebook
They might have learned their lesson from the Zuckerberg debacle that they should send people who can actually comprehend the subject matter, and not...to put it politely a bunch of dinosaurs who still think the internet is a series of tubes. That is assuming as the comment above pointed out, they were just playing dumb on purpose with Zuckerberg for whatever reason (which given the money involved in some of the internet legislation is not that unlikely).
The $44,000 of two years ago buys about 20% less today, so Bitcoin at $44,000 today is worth 80% of a bitcoin two years ago. It would have to get to $50,000 to be equivalent. Bitcoin may or may not be inflation immune, but the dollar that it gets quoted in is not immune to inflation. Still a bargain below $45k, Get it while it's hot. If you missed the 2017, 2021 bull run.

You can start by dollar-cost averaging instead of buying a lump sum at once. Also, consult a fiduciary with crypto expertise for informed buying and selling decisions since talks of a bitcoin ETF approval. Time in the market is more valuable than timing it. Using this approach, I grew my crypto holdings from $50k in 2017 to $690k in 2023.

Yes, McHenry showed real understanding. Brilliant to see that. So different to the Congress hearings a few years ago where tech leaders were so incompetently questioned.
I think McHenry knows the horse has left the barn on this one. Congress isn't going to regulate a decentralized network. My guess is McHenry is afraid his colleagues are too dim to understand the upside of what's happening and that they'll try to control it from DC.
This guy is the precedent of how one should ask a question. The way he predicated and based his question on web 1,2 was the most appropriate way to make people understand the web 3, blockchain and the whole ownership thing.
he already knew what he's talking about, but he intentionally and wisely asked level by level question to make other people and also mass public to understand this phenomenon.
Regarding "web 3" ; Why wouldn't Google ultra wealthy people not just buy it in bulk and manipulate the price (like they are now) rendering it just an additional monopolized concept?
Way to go congressman McHenry! It’s encouraging to see a member of Congress take an active interest in blockchain and actually have a good handle on what it means.
An active interest so they can tax you under the ground haha. There would not be trillions of dollars in it, if the federal reserve had stopped printing like mad.
This gives me hope. Two articulate people in a political discussion calmly trying to understand each other. One answering in accessible language to the other's informed questions. Focused on important topics with new solutions that are neither blindly followed nor dismissed. If only social media and most of political discussions weren't the very opposite.
I would like to believe this is two articulate people trying to convince one another through rational debate, but all I see is one man selling out his constituents by feeding questions to an industry insider so he can sell everyone on his industry.

@@2020A-v6k I don’t believe you are incorrect and you are justified in being very skeptical of Mr. Brooks’ explanation. I strongly suspect he’s an industry insider who Is advocating for his business with this made-up analogy of “three internet tiers.” He says that the second tier is owned by companies like Facebook and Amazon (as if nobody can operator their own server anymore). The third tier is where blockchain acts as a platform for developing apps like one would on a smartphone platform. “People” would own this platform by investing in something like Ethereum. This is silly in my opinion. While Ethereum smart contracts do allow “developers” to create simple apps which can use Ether to run, there is little evidence these could even begin to rival the scale of existing internet apps and services. Furthermore, there’s no evidence that blockchain technologies result in this imaginary equitability he suggests. In fact the reality is that crypto just accelerates inequality of ownership.

The only difference is casino is automated and there is luck involved while here you just hope you are in the right place at the right time before the people at the top take decisions.
@@edwardspencer9397 the important difference is that those investors can't change the _supply_ of the crypto like they can the dollar. the exchange rate price can be manipulated of course, just like the price of any good can be manipulated.

As long as big tech companies are actually making revenue from their users they should be regulated accordingly. Leaving them to decide and create separate laws makes them a parallel state but also a part of the traditional state where they have a limited liability. So who protects the user? To whom the user answer?
There are people in office who dont crave the lime light and actually know how to do their job and know something. This was a good conversation where an expert is filling the lawmakers in on how proceed with crypto because of its decentalization.
Regardless of party, it is always good to have folks like this that can ask logical questions. Questions that assist other lawmakers in understanding the complexities involved here.

I'm glad congress has stepped up their game. The past few times they've interviewed people about tech (not even as complicated as blockchain) has been embarrassing. This is the first time I wasnt completely embarrassed by our own congress.
I didn't even see the word Congress, then I saw Maxine Waters and realized that is what this was. Definitely way better than the other hearings. God those were so out of touch and cringeworthy.
Yeah, especially when mark the lizard was asked “how does Facebook earn revenue?”

Many many many times they do this about something and then completely vote the other way. They really don't ask questions like this often, and more common they will sit here, listen, and then just vote however their major donors say.

They do though. At least in physical form (cables, servers, etc...)
@Steve Sherman Without the giant services like Google the ISPs serve no function and don't profit, no? Even though stuff like Google is built within their framework making them structurally more important, I think it's still very accurate to say that Google (& etc.) has all the actual power.

@@realadammason It does not mean "people" own anything, it means "people with more money" own everything including the rights to make decisions.
The answer was very misleading, as corporations don't own anything on the internet. All they own are servers that can show you the content. The content is still owned by the person who creates it, which is why you have copy right laws and why social media platforms have strict rules to follow if they don't want to be held accountable for the things people post on their platforms.
The reason web 3.0 is being pushed with crypto currency is because it gives the people who are already invested in it absolute control over it. But you don't need things like the blockchain and crypto currencies to make a decentralized web. In fact most would argue you can already do them.
