@@carlalussiniI believe the dialect coach wanted Jacob to do a historical creole accent which was famous during the 1900s (if I’m not mistaken). However, Jacob didn’t like it and find it difficult to understand so he tried to listen to the locals like taxi drivers. So, the NOLA accent he did in the series is somewhat mostly modern blend with the older accent as it was more palatable. I think Bailey Bass tried it but I’m not sure if it is the old creole yet you might be able to compare their differences.
lestat didn’t compel louis to do anything during the episode, at least not technically. he just used regular old human manipulation. louis wasn’t put under any sort of “spell”, he was just hopeless. lestat left him with absolutely nothing, so of course he’d say yes when lestat promises to love him forever. he literally has nobody else.
Is it a sign of bad writing when a showrunner and author have to confirm something in their story or is it a sign of ignorance in the audience? As an aspiring writer, i need to know if this is a flaw on our side that i need to be aware of.

Omg. I had no idea u were watching this. Its a crime that this show did not receive any Emmy nominations in 2022. This show is so so so good. Acting, dialogue, custome designs, set design, everything.
also, don't be ashamed of liking or slightly enjoying lestat. he is all kinds of fucked up but he is a hell of a character. this series is basically about learning to understand, if not inherently forgive, people who can't live a moral existence. though these characters fall outside of what you would rationally forgive, they are still begging you to love them and understand them which i find so fascinating. the show does a really good job at showing their humanity as monsters and outcasts who deserve to be outcasts, and it is constantly asking you if you have mercy and if you can love them despite all the horrible things they do. it's a hell of a ride. and this doesn't just apply to lestat, it applies to louis as well, and the other new characters you will get to know in the series and season 2. just a kind reminder to not feel guilty if you feel a certain affinity for any of them as they are very likeable as they are terrible terrible people 😊 btw the scene where he says he wanted to be a priest is 100% true, his dad was an evil man and very abusive. and though this show is very much about louis, as he is THEE vampire and an extraordinary character (jacob anderson come get your flowers!!!), you will still see much more of lestat and his past in this season and in season 2! i'll shut up now thank you guys for reacting to this beloved show 🥺
@@eliselevi109 ...It's a common figure of speech used for liking characters but not the personification qualities of people they are based from so yes if you're asking if people who kill exist they do, if you're asking if people who threaten to ra** others exist they do, both Lestat has traits of and many more but we acknowledge the character is well-written and liked from a character perspective over the personifications taken from despicable human beings to give the character in this case a Vampire monstrous traits despite being charming.

Louis was in a dark place emotionally. He lost his brother, his mom and sister turned from him, and then the two people he could turn and talk to - lily and the priest - were both murdered. Then lestat comes in and starts love bombing him. Im not surprised louis falls for it and decides to turn.
The thing to add is Louis sexuality and the period in which he lived in and the culture in which he was brought up in , as a queer person brought up in a super religious community lestat offer of companion ship for eternity would have been so enticing and dreamy even with all the wrongs committed by lestat and who lestat is . The feeling of isolation, loneliness, otherness and not belonging swapped for eternal love and admiration seems pretty pretty good to me and as we saw for Louis as well 🤭
It really does tho, I love vampire diaries but it never could compare to the complexities that becoming a vampire has like this show did. But vampire diaries is a top rated show, it’s what you watch when you want a happy ending and teen drama.
It was a book series. Then a movie. Now a series. All hail Anne Rice. And Anne Rice vampires are actually scary. the grandfather of Vampire Diaries. love this actor’s portrayal of Lestat. Also the Damon shirt is on point.
Imagine if The Vampire Diaries had creative directing behind it. Apart from a few episodes (most of which including the original vampires), the show was really lacking in cool looking scenes. Imaging if we had scenes like the one were Lestat slowed down that running priest. The TVD scene where Elijah throws a few coins through a glass wall was one of the few times the show decided to be creative, every other time, they just pluck out a heart in the most boring way possible.
Man, Jacob Anderson is so good in this - the code-switching he does depending on Louis' environment, and that confession scene at the end of this episode... Really fantastic work. I can't wait to see where his career goes in the future.

Thought it was very clear that Louis’ brother was suffering from some degree of schizophrenia, hearing voices, and his death, especially with how he was talking right before it, was very much intentional on his part. He had protested the marriage, but he was up on that roof asking for reassurance that his sister would be happy and taken care of, that his brother wasn’t dealing with bad men anymore, and he just came off probably one of the most happy nights of his recent life. He was able to dance with his brother, having fun like they were when they were younger, at his sister’s wedding. He climbed that roof a man ready to die, put an end to his struggle, with that as his final day. He was a man suffering from mental illness, wanting his last day to be a happy day with his family. And just like Lestat said later, he had wanted to die for a long time. So yeah, just because Lestat is a vampire who doesn’t care much for human life doesn’t mean he’s doing bad shit for the hell of it all the time. Honestly, he’s a romantic.
Finally someone explained it properly. Well said. I’m a medical student, I’m studying psychiatry right now and I immediately understood that death was intentional because of all the things you listed in your comment. It was on point
Anne Rice's Vampires are kinda the bases for most modern Vampire lore. The exchange of blood to turn someone being the most notable bit of lore that is prevalent. No Lestat did not need Louis permission to turn him he just has a thing about consent when turning people because he wasn't given a choice when he was turned by his maker. Paul unfortunately did unalive himself, it's not apart of the plot that's why I'm telling you but Lestat had no reason to kill Paul. Also Anne Rice's Vampires powers are pretty interesting so just be prepared, it a really fun show.
I love the fact that they do not invalidate the older version. This is Louis fighting with himself and his regrets/shame to truly remember what happened all those years ago.
oh, Lestat is a menace lol, but the series will bring vampirism in all its glory, like bloodthirsty predators that play with their prey, that come into conflict between their human and savage nature! Louis' relationship with Lestat will be a kind of love story between monsters, so toxicity is the sauce! The vampires in Anne Rice's universe are complex, she plays a lot with our sense of morality, because it doesn't apply to them, so it's a very wild journey to follow.
It breaks my heart that people don't see how in love Louis actually was with Lestat u.u Lestat's a pretty fucked up boyo, but one of his redeeming qualities is loving Louis. He would never trick him into being with him. He did courted him, and showed him some of his vamp powers, but the love was all real. If anything, Lestat wants him to love him for who he really is. Thats why the church scene is pivotal. He's unmasking his most monstrous self and hoping Louis will still love him and say yes.
i think rather than louis agreeing to becoming a vampire that last scene speaks to lestat's true power which is manipulation . he sought louis out when he was at his most vulnerable and then coerced him into a life louis knew nothing about. as a book reader and enjoyer of the show i think there's nothing wrong with enjoying both louis and lestat as characters, as they are really complex. but no matter what, their relationship is toxic and abusive af lmao.

I'm sure others have mentioned, but the book takes place in antebellum New Orleans, and Louis was a white plantation owner. The show made HUGE changes - and it worked. But you should watch the film at some point, which is more true to the book.

I am so stoked that you guys are watching this. This is my all time fave book series and the show was a great adaptation even with the changes they made. Season 2 is going to blow the first season out of the water. Fun fact the man bleeding from the head at the start is the voice of Bender in Futurama.
That is the thing that I love about this series, does not try to say that the movie didn't exist, acknowledge it as the 1st interview that Louis made with Daniel, where he lied about many things because didn't felt comfortable yet to really unpack everything, and I love it.
This Lestat is one of my favorite vampires in any show. He's so appealing and draws you in like what a real vampire should be doing. He's also so frighteningly scary but you still want to be near him. ❤❤❤ Damon does that in season 1 😂🤣 You guys should all watch the movie too! It's Brad Pitt as Louie and Tom Cruise as Lestat. Yes! Love this show! It gives you the idea of what would happen if Interview With The Vampire was based on a true story, and that the character Louis as well as his lover Lestat were real vampires that have been around for centuries.

Louis is basically an abuse victim from the start. Lestat shows up in his life and builds a bond with him. Then isolates him by taking away the other two ppl that kept him grounded in this life. He now has no support system and his mother and living family aren’t any help. so now only lestat can be his life source. Lestat didn’t use his powers to get Louis to agree to turn, but he essentially broke him down and forced him to make a choice when he was at his lowest point.

That is the thing that I love about this series, does not try to say that the movie didn't exist, acknowledge it as the 1st interview that Louis made with Daniel, where he lied about many things because didn't felt comfortable yet to really unpack everything, and I love it.
One of the best first seasons of a show in history. Excited to follow along.

This Lestat is one of my favorite vampires in any show. He's so appealing and draws you in like what a real vampire should be doing. He's also so frighteningly scary but you still want to be near him. ❤❤❤

You guys should all watch the movie too! It's Brad Pitt as Louie and Tom Cruise as Lestat. Antonio Banderas is Armand in the movie, although Armand is supposed to be a young blond boy. The movie was almost perfection! ❤

I really enjoyed your reaction! I'm an old fan and I'm really excited for Season 2.
Louis is basically an abuse victim from the start. Lestat shows up in his life and builds a bond with him. Then isolates him by taking away the other two ppl that kept him grounded in this life. He now has no support system and his mother and living family aren’t any help. so now only lestat can be his life source. Lestat didn’t use his powers to get Louis to agree to turn, but he essentially broke him down and forced him to make a choice when he was at his lowest point.

I'm glad you're reacting to Interview With The Vampire. There is a companion series to this called Mayfair Witches. Another Anne Rice based series set in New Orleans. Mayfair's 1st season doesn't have a any cross over but in the book series characters from both do cross over.
