First I loved harder Industrial/Warehouse Techno but then one night at De School in Amsterdam DVS1 played an all-night set and it changed my whole perspective of Techno..
Same... haha december 21st each year before corona he'd be there. Most insane atmosphere he creates there.... saw him couple of weeks ago again in de school ;)
I LOVE THIS GUY. People tend to automatically put producers and dj-s in the same basket. IT IS NOT THE SAME. I love producing and I never had in mind to play in front of people. I just love writing and making something new. I am experimenting with production for about a year now and It was trial and error. My sound doesn't sound professional and my music skills are really not that great. But I still love it, I love expressing my feelings and being able to plant it in someone else.
I hate seeing so many people downplay these showcases of skills because of little hiccups or they're not showing what the artist's are doin. If you are really about dj'ing you're paying attention whether there's enough content or not. Listen and learn. Great class DVS1!
It would have been cool to see what DVS1 is exactly doing when he is mixing. Saying that an on top view of the mixer and CDJ would have been cool! Otherwise cool interview!
I watched five minutes of Andrea Oliva and almost never watched another one of these. But I can already tell this is infinitely more legit. Maybe it’s just cuz I like techno.
NICE! good interview, thanks!!! But Point Blank, why did you put that camera angle while he was on the decks? Would be nice to see what he was doing! By the way, the title Masterclass was misplaced imo, I didn't see any 'masterclass'. But as I said, great video anyway :)
he is a really good dj. i never got into how you can mix 3 records at once. i come from a turntableism background and can do chirps, flares etc but that shit wont work for me haha...
Is there actually a need for a 'masterclass' for beatmatching based DJ mixing? Cool thoughts on DJing philosophy etc but I struggle to find a need for a supposed 'masterclass' for DJing that relies solely on one technique.
Hey you said the same thing I said everyday people don't want to work no more they just want to bring a little laptop push the button sync I don't like sink I don't like the new cheating stuff and now everybody download software that DJ it's not the same no more I still had my Technics 1200 never going nowhere and still have my records I had the new stuff too but I like the old stuff
thanks for mentioning the real DJ s and what I call is the SYNC BOYS with the technology which is kind bull shit. I have challenged some sync boys or wanna be DJs on a regular controller and they backed off because they can't ddjjjj .
he said in the interview it takes him about 15-20 minutes to find the groove and get going, you cant expect a dj to bring a bunch of energy in 10 minutes
I’ve reviewed video today… still not impressed. I have to admit transition was smooth an seamless, he was fast. Maybe tracks choice wasn’t too good, and no culmination, everything started flat and finished flat. I’ve seen dj’s who were able to build crazy as f@ck energy within two first tracks. I’m 45 y.o. techno guy. I’ve seen many, many dj’s and have experience playing on parties. Conclusion: technical but emotionless.
i dont even know why artists like these are called DJs. they should be called performers. producers take loops from records all the time to produce. He's kinda doing the same.
@Dusty Okken if you don't think tracks don't sound like mixes check out dub fires 2 hour boiler room, he's mastered djing and the mix sounds like a single track.
I wish I was just a producer and not have to be a shitty, poseur Dj. I mean fuck ,15yo kids also play music why the fuck do I have to play music too? DJing is a joke today Also this guy is a boss
The same shitty questions in all these so called "masterclasses"...do you think vinyl has made you a better DJ. The electronic music scene has blown way out of proportion now, too commercial and mainstream with the big business money people exploiting it for their own gains.
Good interview. Pretty terrible demo. Point Blank fails by not showing us what he is doing. And honestly what he is doing is not particularly impressive.
I know quite a few dj`s living in Sweden, the Midwest and in Berlin that are better than DVS1, but do not get booked all around the world. Same as there are plenty of hard working and brilliant actors that never gets to feature in a Hollywood movie. It is also about who you meet, timing and a bit of luck. He even says so himself at the end.Same as Ryan Elliott, brilliant Detroit dj that know is picked up by the Ostgut agency. He was lucky to meet Matthew Dear and be introduced Ghostly International. Same as Marcel and Ben was there at the right time to be picked as residents at Berghain.
^ And?... what are you trying to say?. You have to ask yourself WHY them DJ's aren't getting booked around the world?.. Luck is being ready when the opportunity arises and i believe you create your own luck from the decisions you make and the work you put in. All these little time and place moments that happened for these artists happened when they were ready enough to take them with full force. DVS1 meeting Derrick or Klock would of been irrelevant if he wasnt an amazing DJ with a unique production style under his belt. But he was ready and had the skill set when the luck of the moment happened for him.
DVS1 is my spirit animal, this guy just gets it

Saw him in Berghain recently...WOW he is off the scale!!! I love him so much
Oh yes, he definitely knows how to play Hain soundsystem like no one.

The single greatest musical experience you will ever have is watching dvs1. Thank me later
true proper techno at its highest level
Probably one of the most honest conversations about old and new. Tech vs analogue.
Very inspirational. DVS1 is a legend
He is so humble, I love him!!! People watch and learn, not only his skills but is attitude too please.
Incredibly inspiring and by far my favourite DJ-great to hear his words
@DVS1 hit the nail on the head off gaining experience and having failed gigs with trail and error. Loving it
I hate seeing so many people downplay these showcases of skills because of little hiccups or they're not showing what the artist's are doin. If you are really about dj'ing you're paying attention whether there's enough content or not. Listen and learn. Great class DVS1!
I saw 2 sets this year from this man!! It was AWESOME !!
What a man, what a interview!!!
I am discovering dvs1 as a person through videos since a week and must say he is fucking humble, smart and special
This guy is the reason why i live for music
The Bruce Willis of the DJ world. I like his perspectives on being an artist and DJ.
More like vin diesel
haha cuz they bald amirite
M u rite
DVS1 knows what time it is.
I love how politely he said "there just too many f*cking DJs".
This is awesome. Good interview Carly. Thank you again Point Blank! And DVS1!
what a legend
This should be called "ethics and tactics for the established DJ"
It would have been cool to see what DVS1 is exactly doing when he is mixing. Saying that an on top view of the mixer and CDJ would have been cool! Otherwise cool interview!
man this guy is not from this planet i can tell ya
Cdot Gdot check his Dommune mix
I just heard him a couple days ago. Man, i am still stunned by his masterskills. He is a true musician.
He’s literally just touching high mid low EQs to blend in 2-3 tracks at a time. Some looping and effects for the transitions. Just like any other DJ.
@@PinchHarmonic69 and you think that's easy? it's not mate
What a realist!
Live this guy .. speaking from the 💓
very very thankful for this interview
Great DJ/ Producer. I like his way that he breaks down the details in Djing.
DVS1 is awesome and so is this interviewer who can't hide her crush! Great video overall
DVS1 is the MAN!!!
Amazing. What a guy.
Love this guys vibe, just do you.
Very special Interview .. much love
Agreed that I'd have loved to see an overhead cam to see what he's doing exactly. Makes my Minneapolis blood proud.
Huge respect for you DVS1. Bless you.
Two of his tracks were Ecks by DVS1-opening groove and Thesis by Skudge
I'd like to meet Zak. He seems really down to earth.
This was awesome so much valuable info!
Would've been nicer for a DVS1 Production Masterclass!
awww but the whole talk was about him being more of a dj than a producer
i feel enlightened after that, DVS1 puts people to shame these days with for they get paid for and still call it 'DJing'
RECORDS ARE NUMBER 1 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Great interview.
A really great interview and I appreciate the knowledge shared here 👍😎
I watched five minutes of Andrea Oliva and almost never watched another one of these. But I can already tell this is infinitely more legit. Maybe it’s just cuz I like techno.
This man toutch me with all his speaking.
Well good interview !
true statement about ppl going for convenience in digital dj'ing.
Best DJ around at this time. Peace Zak.
gotta love that guy!
thinking different nice voice the clarity is cool

Fuck me I love listening to this guy.
really nicely said about djs x producers, on point
Great lessons
He speaks 💯 %FACTS.
Very inspiring 🐱
Like this guy.
love when Dj´s try to play music they like but nobody knows it open doors for new comers and it is good for the art
mastermind, love u zack!
Boom!
He’s doing what Traktor users are doing except he’s doing his own beat matching !!!!
que ser humano maravilhoso é o DVS1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great stuff! Any new deconstructions from Ski this year?
coming soon :)
Thank you.
Real talk
my man!
he is a really good dj. i never got into how you can mix 3 records at once. i come from a turntableism background and can do chirps, flares etc but that shit wont work for me haha...
which dj/producers do you think he is talking about?
cool guy, and damn, she's fine!
Can anyone send the link to this berghain music page?
If your looking on youtube just type in ostgut ton records. Thats their record label.
🖤
I only saw half the thumbnail and thought it was some execution scene from Schindler's List
i got an ad from Domix on my phone right at 38:00 ....

Blackbelt
32:17, track id anyone?
There are a few loops going on but the main one is Skudge: thesis
Then moves into Discipline of Art (alex schultz Remix)
Robot DJ

fucking funny
😀👍👍👍👍👍
A DJ masterclass without actually seeing what the DJ does while mixing (from the top) Thats more clickbait than actually a masterclass...
His concepts on DJing are far more valuable than the technical details you may be looking for.
@@csselement if you need other peoples concepts you should probably quit.
a class is usually about learning how to bring YOUR concepts to life.
@@s1nnocense you misunderstand my meaning but thanks for sharing your projection

So much excitement, but music his playing is too flat...I mean don't get me wrong the transition are all perfect but that's about it...
he said in the interview it takes him about 15-20 minutes to find the groove and get going, you cant expect a dj to bring a bunch of energy in 10 minutes

because they mix in the moment with reaction from the audiences in the room. Thats a lot different than producing in your own studio.
@Dusty Okken if you don't think tracks don't sound like mixes check out dub fires 2 hour boiler room, he's mastered djing and the mix sounds like a single track.

Ecks DVS1

The interview is really amazing but I would have learned more about DJing watching him play the accordion for 10minutes than this “demo”
they don't soul no more
severe dogma
The same shitty questions in all these so called "masterclasses"...do you think vinyl has made you a better DJ. The electronic music scene has blown way out of proportion now, too commercial and mainstream with the big business money people exploiting it for their own gains.
I agree. The reason why I love electronic music is that its not mainstream but that's starting to change
Curtis Garner find underground artists that are not “mainstream”
'Proper dj's'
Whatever. 😅😅😅
this is clothing store's background music
Good interview. Pretty terrible demo. Point Blank fails by not showing us what he is doing. And honestly what he is doing is not particularly impressive.
You are absolutely clueless.
The only reason for DVS1 is there he is today is because he met Ben and Derrick. Releasing on Transmat and Klockworks.
Not entirely, his production and sets are really unique compared to others. You notice a difference between him and other actual techno DJ's
Not true at all
Not true. He is a phenomenal DJ... one of the best of our time.
