His new book 'Oh Yes, oh yes!' chronicles his life from a scaffolder in the south London suburbs to one of the true pioneers of UK club culture.
He talks to Krishnan about how his craft has evolved of the decades, his concerns for the British entertainment industry and how he nearly gave up on his career after a terrifying experience.

man this guy is incredible, I was looking at his tracklists and he’s flying all over the world, playing incredible music for people who arent nearly as passionate as him, and he’s so humble, great interview

One of the most beautiful, most humble people in our scene. His love of music, his love of people and wanting to connect with people through the power of music is just wonderful.
Actaully he is not that humble. He was a gatekeeper and didn't want house and techno mixed together in the early 90s for example (how retarded is that?) and he resisted breakbeats and missed the boat on drum & bass. i'm a fan of his work but not a fan of him.
Couldn't say any better!! He is just wonderful inside and out as an artist and a human being!!! So pure! So humble! So transparent! So full of positive energy! And so so much more! 1 book is not enough to describe this Legend! We ❤ you Carl Cox! With full heart! I first seen Carl dj at a rave in 1991.. 30 years on I'm still dancing to him dj'ing at festivals & ibiza. The guy is a pioneer, legend and a gentleman

The energy on his parties is unmatched. He toured so much, I saw him live several times. Love the guy.
I saw Carl on 3 decks in the vynil days and when you could get close to the DJ booth, to see his mixing skills up close was mesmerising to be able to cut between 3 records at that pace takes serious musicality.

I've heard a near as perfect kick scratch drop to stop in one manouvre....live on radio one, his scratching chops are ace.

@Mike Oxlong ha ha yeh. Even Fantazia Big Bang in 94 he was messy. Eliss Dee and others at the same event wiped the floor on him in terms of mixing. He played the big tunes though. Tried to scratch and couldn't manage it while the other Djs were scratching at a way higher level by that point, then he switched to house/techno.
But hats off to Carl Cox, he is a massive DJ and a pioneer no doubt. You can't take anything away from him really.

Big Bang was a brilliant mix one of my favourites. Every tune from start to finish was excellent and of course the mixing and scratching. Nice one Carl 💙
Saw him at Tomorrowland 2015. One of the first techno sets I had ever seen at that time. Completely melted me. One of his best sets ever and he's one of the best DJ's ever.
Carl Cox is the best. He so experienced, played for so many crowds, he knows what makes people from all around the world move. He has been the constant in this electronic DJ music world, been a constant in my listening. One of the greatest, if not the greatest.

There is a reason he is legendary as a dj alone. Listen to a dance mix and you will see he mixes music in key. So he will roll out a seven min tune and sample a different track and use that hook during parts of the song already playing.
I was a scratch dj for years and into much darker music but he is one of the British DJs as both music and as a man I genuinely love. Met him a few times over the years and he as always been not only a pleasure but just a G.

I Have been fortunate enough to have seen Carl Cox live a few times through the 90’s in London, he was a legend then and he continues to be today, apart from his obvious music talent, what a great attitude to life! If only there was more people like Carl Cox.

My first experience of a rave and Carl Cox was an event at Plymouth Warehouse in 93. The TV cameras were there with a program called BPM. I ended up being on the TV dancing away to Carl Cox and MC Majeka. I was only 14 lol. For the next 5 years I was obsessed with the scene. I will never forget that night. The sound when I walked in the warehouse door of one hard techno beat echoing over the next from the ridiculously big sound system. 40k with a huge stack of bass bins in the middle of the warehouse. The power of the music was incredible. I next saw Carl later that year at my first all nighter Universe Big Love. I used to live for the next rave. Everyone happy no attitudes no phones. It was a utopia of happiness. Such a shame there is nothing like the scene now how it was. It was literally like being in heaven. The people, the music, the pure escape. I thought the future was bright for the scene. As it turns out it was a golden time. Those that were there will understand. I still try to be kind to people, the scene accepted me and I am
Thankful for what it gave me. I still listen to the music mainly from 92,93,94. It really was amazing.

Saw him and Sasha at a little crssd event in San Diego a few weeks back. I was running on very little sleep and felt awful. This dudes three hour set gave me so much life it was almost unbelievable. Dude is a master

It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience seeing this legend in the flesh a few weeks back in New York. So glad he’s still doing it, and reeeeally looking forward to catching a house set next time!
I have been a very lucky and had a privilege of meeting Carl at his 50th birthday party at Sands in Ibiza. Had a little chat with him, and that man just radiates joy, happiness and such positive energy. He is simply the KING

I have pleasure to be 5times at this legend partyes,not even close how manny times I wish to be...I have been at hundreds and hundreds partyes...no one can come even close to his energy.When you go to his party,you will know what I'm talking about.I love you mr.C,you gaved me some of the best moments of my life.
His parties?? U mean raves? He was at masses in the 90s, u only been to 5 occasions where Cox was in the play list? So u don't live in the uk I'm taking it otherwise this number would have been much more as it was impossible to go to large raves in uk back then where Carl wasn't usually on the list.

That's interesting and very truthful I used to be around a family that were deaf and people that are deaf can feel the vibrations of the beats and music and they prefer certain types of vibrations and have a preference of what they actually like in music which makes perfect sense why Carl Cox would be thanked by a deaf person which is very incredible

Caught him @ Ultimate Base @ Velvet Underground in London's west end most Thursdays in 96 - 97. He was on 3 gold 12's. VERY small club for such a big name. Prefer smaller venues to oversized places like Fabric. He played the box @ MOS a few times when they used to do a night called OPEN. Gatekeeper? He's one of em, for sure.
