I've been watching you for years and didn't realize you were also in DFW. McKinney Square is very cool. Thank you for this review. It answered a lot of my questions.
Would I be able to mount a dji mic to the top if I’m shooting vertical and would I be able to attach a SSD if I wanted to shoot log in vertical with this type of case on it? I like the cage but everyone’s tutorials are about landscape shooting and I’m interested in this for the vertical
there are large gaps in the back of the variable ND which allow unwanted light to leak in. Do I really need to add gaff tape to solve this? Seems like a design flaw that should be recalled.
Could i have handles like before where you can mount a shotgun mic or small light on top with a hotshoe mount? I don’t need the bluetooth button thingy
I have this cage and what is the best thing is the quick release handles. I have the older ones and the screw mount is just a pain. I also have the new mounts for the new Moment Lenses. Lots of creative options with this iPhone and cage. 😊😊😊
@@RealityMauritius Simple - you just have to push the buttons on the quick release handle and it releases easily. Btw- Smallrig just released a new version of the quick release adapter that now lets you change the orientation of the handle and lock it in place. So you no longer need to use the handle in a vertical orientation. I got mine today. Just a nice little update for you.
The million dollar question, how do you charge the Bluetooth? Nobody seems to know it doesn’t have a charging port, so how does it charge? The old version had a charging port in the handle this one doesn’t
Where is the battery? the old model had a usbc charge on the handle, nothing on this one I can't find the battery, what kind of battery does it use? I see people returning it because of the bluetooth stopped working@@SidneyDiongzon
@@SidneyDiongzon and like clockwork, it happened! My rig came in today, and guess what Bluetooth doesn’t work, I wonder why, seemed like a flawed engineering decision to not put a USB-C charging port on the handle, like the last model, returned, immediately looking for another rig, was so hoping this one worked
Just got the cage and the only downside it has is that adapter ring does not cover all the lenses correctly. It is almost not possible to use wide angle lens. Otherwise it's 5/5 💪🏼
When you rotate the VND. Were there cases where it rotates the whole filter? From another video I saw. To covers all three lens. You turn it 45 degrees. With 45 degree left till the little m mount tabs stop it from rotating further. Does the little grip pad on the m-mount help keep it in place?
I have the iPhone 15 Pro version - no special edition version for me unfortunately. I purchased the filter attachment from SmallRig (same part number as listed in the special edition version for the 15 Pro max) and also bought their magnetic variable ND to go with it. The cage and the ND are great quality. The filter attachment however is not very secure on either of the Moment M-mounts on the mounting plate that comes with the cage. It is loose and the entire attachment moves when you twist the variable ND to adjust it. I am mounting it to the main lens m-mount and it's loose on there but at least I can twist it fully clockwise so that it reaches a hard stop, in this position only adjustments of an attached variable ND in the opposite direction affect it, but it's not ideal at all. On my copy to set the filter attachment to the position demonstrated in this video, the attachment is very loose and quite easily dislodged. That is without the weight of a filter on it.
@@_chrismarsh thanks for the details! I went for the regular color on the 15 Pro Max fortunately. Black on space black. I do like SmallRig and they make great stuff. I hope they sees this and redesign it for the t-mounts. Or skip the mounts and have a magnetic filter adapter straight to a redesigned magnetic baseplate. The 17mm and T-series baseplate currently lacks of a filter mount option that covers all the 15 pro lenses. Unless they want to keep pushing their old stock of 52mm m-mount filters. Any light leak or vignetting on the ultra wide or main btw? This 52mm seems kind of close when you mount it on the tele. I ended up going the m-mount to 37mm to step up ring route. Currently sacrificing the ultra-wide, quick lens switching, and lidar. @sideneydiongzon - I am not sure if you understood my question. Or maybe my question wasn't clear enough?
I purchased one from B&H Camera and one of the clips doesn’t attach securely to the cage. B&H exchanged the entire unit for a new one, and the same thing is happening. One of the clips attaches very securely, the other wobbles and feels like it’s going to fall off. I’ve sent two messages and a video to Small Rig with no response. If you’re going to use it once in a while it’s ok. If you’re going to use it to make a living I would suggest buying a different brand until they address the issue.
Nice but not yet at Amazon UK, only your link is to USA. Only Brandon Li green cage with three screws and a manual are available in UK. Love the quick release attachments, unfortunately they don’t fit the Neewer cage I bought last month which is the closeted to this rig. Thanks for sharing.
@@mrjonnyjones must have just arrived, Amazon UK always behind USA. Tried to order a Neewer SSD holder advertised on FB today, trolled Amazon UK, couldn’t find one. Even Neewer website was out of stock.
Yah, Apple changes the form factors pretty often. One thing I would really like is if the accessories that bolt onto the cage typically work on the new cage.
I just can't buy into computed photography, especially with computed bokeh (e.g. mustache on your subject at 5:43) - it's remarkable that computed has come so far, especially with 60fps in such a small package but the software is making too many adjustments which cannot be controlled by the shooter. The only clear advantage I see with computed is size/weight - much easier to pull it out of your pocket and shoot vs. a Sony/Nikon.
What accessories should I add to this iPhone rig???
Smallrig SSD holder and another cold shoe for audio receiver?

I have the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 and don't know if I still need the rig and if it has any added value for me despite the Osmo?🤔
Available for pro or just pro max?
I just wish one could use both a VND and a Black Pro Mist filter with this setup at the same time. That does not appear to be an option.
