    It wasn't just his amazing dribbling skills that made him such a great player, he was as brave as a lion , riding scything bone crunching tackles in era when hard tackling was accepted as part of the game, he simply stood head and shoulders above everyone , he was a Picasso the of the football world, consistently producing little masterpieces of craft and guile, and he lit up the dreariest wet grey winters afternoon, with a spark of genius to warm the heart, on pitches resembling paddy Fields he'd shift the ball from foot to foot with pace and elegance ,and leave a trail of baffled and bamboozled defenders in his wake. A special player G.Best (rip).

    14.26 with Rodney Marsh, when football was fun! Bestie the magician, tough as old boots, could ride a tackle and give it out if necessary. Blessed with speed, agility and a great football brain. Left the game far too early. he was way too good and not protected by the refs from deliberate fouls.

    Tavy@ my top 5 George best goals are number 1, against spurs in 1971 when big pat jennings tried to punsh it clear but only got half a punsh on it and it fell to george who only had a split second to decide what to do, george looked as if he was about to sit on hes favourite arm chair when he controled it on hes chest then camly lobbed it over big pat and 3 players on the goal line from 14 to 15 yards out at an angle exhibiting sublime execution gauged to the very inch. It sends a shiver down my back every time i see it. Number 2, on a floodlit pitch at old trafford in 1970 against chelsea george got the ball just over the half way line and was clear then ron 'chopper' harris came slideing in to george really really hard and tried to take or break hes two legs away but george wobbled a bit and whent on and was one on one with peter bonneti the goal keeper, bonneti bought the dummy and george whent round him and put the ball into the net! Number 3, in 1971 against sheffield utd george picked the ball up on the half way line then looked around then with a quick burst of speed he ran past 5 players and whent out a bit wide then some how managed to curl his boot round the ball to hit it in of the far post! Number 4, against west ham utd in 1971 man utd got a corner and brian kidd gave it to george with a quick corner george then whent into the box and turned john mcdowall 1 way then another way with 2 dummies he turned him inside out then a quick burst of speed and bobby moore ran to george, george sold bobby a dummy to by kidding on he was going to shoot and bobby turn away george whent past him with ease then hit a cracking low shot from 13 yeards out and near the penalty spot the keeper had no chance a dont even thinck he saw it! Number 5, against stoke in 1971, on a bad muddy pitch wullie morgan crossesd it over from the wing and at the edge of the box the stoke defender had it on a plate then george stole it from him gordon banks came rushing out becouse by now george had what seemend a clear shot from 12 yards, george then dropped hes left shoulder and left hip and leg with it lol, banks then bought this fantastic dummy or dummys and dived to hes right georges left? George then moved the ball to his right and also round banks who was scrambling on the mud to get up the george rolled the ball into the net as if it was a sunday game with your pals with 18 a side!!!

    Tavy@ George best was the greaterst player in the world between 1965 to 1971. It was really scary to thinck we never saw him at hes peak, now that is a thought? What would he be like? Its hard to imagine he could get any better than he was at 25, the guy was sublime. What could he have did that he hadnt done before? But if he didnt stop playing at 26 and gave us another ten years of pure genuis he wouldv been the greatest ever! the number one in the world forever. He had the natural fitness and skill to play on the wing or any where up front till he was 36 easy. And even at 40 maybe into midfield becouse he had a superb football brain. They always talk about 'that' great goal he scored in america in 1981 when he was 35, and it was a great goal. Best says it was his best goal ever. But a dont even put it in ma top 5 george best goals. If you watch it again best beats 3 players not 6 or 9 lol, and even then he really just beats 2 players the 3rd player he doesnt beat him as in go past or round him becouse he shoots at goal as the 3rd player goes to come in. Its just the way best goes along way for a short cut, he just goes across the box then turns and goes back the way to find a way to shoot. And they players in that leauge were slow they looked as if it just wasnt there sport, like bad amatures on a wet day lol. Even best said it in hes books he wrote. He said "talk about bad these guys were awefull they knew nothing about the game, i would beat players and lay on a pass to score and they would fall over the ball or just kick it 12 foot over the bar or wide of the post, it was hard to take" best scored much better goals for man utd. Like the one when chopper harris trys to snap georges legs and he wobbles then goes round the keeper lol. Then the one against sheffield utd when he runs past 5 of them and goes wide then some how curls hes boot round the ball to score. Then the lobb over big pat jennings against spurs in 1971. When he clears 3 of them on the goal line, as pat can only get a weak punsh at the ball, best takes it on hes chest then lobbs it over them all. Then against stoke he scores twice, 1 with hes left foot then the second he had banks diving 1 way to then take the ball round him and rolls it into the net!!!!! (rip) george

    Best is Garrincha of great britain and with similar problems alcohol.Most of the wingers in the 60's and 70's used to be crazy because they knew some player would break theirs legs.Here in Brasil Joãzinho was also a fantastic player a natural talent but also drink problems outshined him...Best was the first football player who could sell anything with his Image but the best of the George nobody will ever know what level he could achieve.

    Tavy@ i have never saw pele or maradona play like best, he was diffrent in the way he played. He was the greatest entertainer ever on tv. And that includes sport and all of show bussiness. This guy was sent by God theres no doubt about it. In the six goals he scored against northampton He ran, he dribbled, he walked, he headed it. Magic. That chip with fulham was sublime on a hard frosty park. But the lob over big pat jennings in 6th feburary 1971 just made me laugh in admiration the first time i saw that. I had never seen that done before by any player and he had a split second to decide what to do? He took it on hes chest then lobbed it without it hitting the ground and cleared 3 players on the goal line. exhibiting sublime execution gauged to the very inch. No other player in the world could have done that in that era. A dont even thinck pele would of done that. He would of tried to score with a shot or hes head!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P GEORGE AND THANCKS

    Jesus he was good but all this talk of being better than today's footballers is just rubbish Messi and Ronaldo would be way ahead of him in scoring charts in physical fitness in pace in all aspect's football has moved on if George played in this era he would simply be to slow he never had any one with pure pace to go past just 6ft4 builders that thought defending was kicking people so a little movement was all that was needed to beat them just leave past sports men where they belong in the past
    With today's technology and sports nutritionist sportsmen just get better in them days a step over was thought to be amazing now and standard player would look at that as the norm

      Disagree entirely. Those 6ft4 builders you call them would sort your modern day divers out very quickly. And just for the record George Best was very quick, footballers today might be faster and fitter but they do not have more skill than the great players of the past. Todays football is mostly played by robots and is so boring.

    • @johnpacino007
      @johnpacino007 2 года назад

      Is this Sarah lass serious? Today's football, is a zero contact sport. Plus: football is more than speed. It's about skill. And dribbling, passing, heading, tackling, shooting. Are done the same way today, as in past era's... Let's see Messi & Ronaldo run at top speeds on those old muddy pitches, that sapped one's leg's. Wearing those old heavier boots & running with those old slower moving footballs. Playing against defenders that kicked one from pillar to post... It's a remarkable wonder, that players like Di Stéfano, Pelé, Eusébio, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Maradona, produced the magic they did, in those conditions.
      Your recency bias narrative is too small minded.
