Cruyff Said Romário was the best striker he ever coached. Cruyff also Said that Romário wanted a break to go to Brazil for carnival, Cruyff gave him one condition: Score 2 goals, he scored 2 goals against Real Madrid in 20 minutes and asked to be replaced and said coach "the plane leaves in 1 hour..." Guys who does that???? Him. Off he went to get the plane. Some people don't really understand how lethal this guy was.
same way when he played for PSV. the season was starting and everyone came back from a break and romario did show up 3 weeks later. Guus Hiddink was coach at that time and was very pissed about that .So romario said coach dont worry how much shall i score 3? in 35 minutes he scored 3 goals and everyone would love him again. romario"s first touch was always perfect but the most deadly thing about him is that nobody would knew what he was gonna do. for me always the best striker
Nowadays, kids have no clue about football. they only know about it as of 2010. When you talk about Socrates, Zico, Rivelino, Edmundo, Batistuta, Valderrama, Brasil '82, etc they look at you as if you were talking an alien language.
I was watching a laliga game this year and the commentator said that vinicius junior moves like romario ...i was like WTF !! The second commentator started laughing n told him with all due respect to vinicius but r u joking right? Cuz i hope ure joking!!.. I couldnt stop laughing... how can anyone compare that joke finishitssius chewnior to a legend like Romario??? Romario was a lethal striker, combined realism, strentgh, power, vision, sharpness, quick decision making, speed, technique and extra ordinary accuracy, he always knew where n how to position himself in the area in front of the goal and he had so much confidence!!! He might b small but oh boy he intimidated the bigger/biggest defenders.. Cesare Maldini once said that U cant mark Romario n the only way to stop him is to mark the players that provide him with passes.. italy in 94 had to give up attacking just to have 2-3 players watching him n covering for his main providers/passers Sometimes i can only imagine if Romario and Maradona played in the same team.....

The hardest thing in football is making it look simple to score, and Romario made it look so easy. An absolute legend and goal machine. I'm sure there's been times at his former clubs when the coach wouldn't know what to do but just say, "pass it to Romario, he'll figure it out!"👏🤠😎⚽️
I am glad someone sees it like i did too. Romario is the least celebrated top 5 goal scorers of all time, yet he is one of the best without a doubt. Romario is a master class all his own. I think that people talking about football today (from the profissional media to the keyboard-warrior kids) are very focused on the players of this decade only. A few more years and they'll be forgetting about Ronaldinho and Ronaldo too. They even dare comparing a 3-time WC-champion to somenone that failed 3 times to win a single Copa America.
I don't think he was the type who played to be recognized or complain about not being considered to to be one of the greats unlike Pele.He just played football and enjoyed life.

A skill I have not seen since. He scores in one or two touches most time. He didn't need to think about it. He knew what he was going to do long before he got the ball. This is pre talent and mastery. I think he is the best finisher ever.
Without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail right on the head. He has such a mastery of the ball, and such technical ability that when the ball gets to him he doesn’t even need to bother with control, he already knows where and how he’s gonna put it past the goalie. Incredible foresight, not even R9 or Van Basten or Van Nistelrooy or any other elite finisher through history has had that.
You are spot on-----scoring was so easy for him; unlike other great strikers, he didn't have to force anything----just a simple delicate touch and it is over for his opponent. A true master of his craft.
talents like these must never be forgotten. this video is a treasure. what a player! Brazilians are the reason football is called the beautiful game. we should always play this game with a smile on our faces, skills comes naturally then.
great vid. been watching football for like 40+ years now, Im an addict. IMHO Romario was indeed the best finisher ever, no one compares. Ronaldo, Cristiano, Messi, Pelé, no one. Genius level: great speed/explosion, skills, no weak foot, but IMHO what made him truly special were his awareness and creativity. Romario came back to Brazil when he was at his height. I guess that's why he isn't as famous as other great 90 players such as Ronaldo or Zidane. But he was the best striker I've ever seen, undoubtedly.
@@leandrou100 Do they actually? I honestly thought at least after Pele, Ronaldo was the golden boy in Brazil and even at that Ronaldinho is definitely up there?
I have seen better dribblers, tricksters, faster players and more powerful forwards but I have never seen anyone as clinical in front of goal as Romario. His finishing is without mercy. Literally the best finisher I have ever seen.
No man, he is definitelly up there with the best dribblers, tricksters and obviously fastest and quickest forwards ever...it's easy to see " E O baxinho!!!! Porra!!! ". He's part of the greatest ever hands down!!! He's like Rivaldo, two geniuses who don't get the respect that they deserve!!! Plus he managed to qualify them during that 93 campain, which wasn't an easy task...
I was able to see how Parreira and Zagallo were refusing to call him to the qualifiers until the very last game. He made 2 goals, qualified us. And then got called again just before the WC. Romario did the possible and the impossible to bring the title that was HIS WC. He could play in another 3, but injuries in '90, '98 and the age in '02 were his bad luck. The only WC he reached healthy and ready, he won. BTW, I NEVER understood the preference for Careca in '90. Lazzaroni was indeed stupid. Careca was good, but wouldn't grease Romario's boots...

A class Act! An artist at work. I had the fortune to watch him play in 1994 WC. His acceleration and change of speed in the penalty box was mind boggling. Combine that with his skill and talent, he was the most deadly striker the world had ever seen. In today’s game most of his goals would have been “goal of the season”. Somehow he never got the fame he deserved.❤️
He was very famous, I always followed him when he was at PSV. The thing is, PSV landed Ronaldo after selling Romario, so Barca's next transfer was baking already.
The ridiculous amount of headers he scored for a player of his height show how amazing was his positioning in the field. He was a killer inside the box.
The best striker that ever lived. Over 1000 goals in his career. Genius. He was the top scorer of the Brazilian league at 39yo in 2007 playing for Vasco da Gama, where he scored his 1000th goal.
It´s actually funny to read things like : "there are better trickers, dribblers, but he was the best finisher". Yes, he was the best finisher ever (alongside Gerd Muller). but he also was one of the most technical players ever. Many of Ronaldinho-Ronaldo style they copied from Romario, with the substancial difference that Romario usually did his tricks inside the box, as Cruyff used to say: ' He is the genius of the area, the genius of the tight spaces'. While Ronaldinho used to does his sombreros in the midfield, Romario used to did it inside the area as a resource to score. He had the best one touch I ever seen from a striker. With his one touch he even did not need to dribble past the defenders many times. A genius of the game, as great Cruyff used to say.
That's why when I make a comment about Romario being great inside of the box, I always qualify it by saying to not compare him to Inzaghi, Van Nistelrooy, or someone like that. I'd say no one is better than him near the penalty box, and that includes Messi, O Fenomeno, Ronaldinho, Pele, or Maradona. None of the players mentioned are better finishers than him, nor were they more technical. What I usually say--being that Ronaldo is my favorite player of all time--is that Ronaldo was a threat from inside of his own half, and that mostly has to do with athleticism. As a result of that, it was easier to stop starve Romario of possession. If I were to describe Romario to a youngster, I'd say that he was Aguero with the technical ability of Messi and the flair of Neymar. My favorite goal of his is the third goal of a hat trick he scored in his La Liga debut. He chested a pass from outside of the box and "volley-lobbed" the keeper without looking.

Allen Iverson is a better comparison, even with Romário being more accomplished. Both were small, pure talented, came from the hood, fiercely competitive, hated practices, bigmouths.
I saw Romario live in the summer of 1993 play one of his first games for Barça, a friendly against Ajax in the olympic stadium in Amsterdam. The match was won by Barça 2-4, Romario scoring the last 2 goals. In the first half he received a loud verrbal abuse from the Ajax fans but those went over in admiration and applause the second half. Memorable evening...
The best striker I've seen ever. It was a delight to watch Barcelona games at that time. I remember watching games where Romario barely touched the ball for 70 mins and suddenly he had a chance and scored. Truly clinical.
I feel he is a bit underrated in PES. Van Basten has a better overall card, or am I wrong? I watched both and, as much as Van Basten was great and complete, Romario´s technique is only equalled by 5 or 6 players in history. R9 was a better dribbler, but not a better striker than Romario or Van Basten, by the way.

In-between the typical beach relaxation, hotel swimming pool and exploring the island one morning I went to a area called Cala Bona (I think) and played fußball with Spanish kids... everyone wanted to be Romario or Stoichkov. But Romario was beloved by the Spanish kids...who played incredible. I played as Libero at a club in Berlin and these kids only played in the streets...and they were incredible for their age. It's pure joy and fun to see how he is so focused in putting the ball in the net. If it was acrobatic or just rolling the ball to the goal, he always chose the simplest way. That meaning the most guaranteed way of doing it, as soon as the gap opened, which he was so prompt to make it appear by himself. Since he had the pure finest brazilian football technique, he could take a magic trick out of the hat without any warning, and achieved to deliver some of the greatest moments in football. Pure state of art.

I think he's VASTLY underrated. Imo he deserves top 3 (top 5 at worst honestly) when you rank the greatest Brazilians ever (let's limit to attackers and offensive mids, since it's harder to objectively compare other positions). However, you will see him out of the top 5 in many lists lol Him, Ronaldo, Pelé, Garrincha and Zico. This is a fair top 5. Imo, Neymar already deservers a top 5 but I believe we're only having a consensus if Neymar wins a World Cup for us, then Zico leaves the top 5*. But back to Romário, his spot won't and can't be changed anytime soon. He has done much more than Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and others. Edit: I would have loved to see Romário in a team like the modern day Manchester City. He would have eclipsed Aguero in every way possible and I'm not even being disrespectful to Aguero. It's just that Romário was far better. Too bad he played in the late 80s and early 90s + took some horrible career decisions. Just imagine if peak C. Ronaldo or Messi decided to join a Portuguese/Argentinian clube then returned to the major leagues just to play for a smaller club than Real Madrid/Barcelona... different times. Still, Romário deserves a lot of respect and more recognition imo (here in Brazil he's rated fairly I think). *Neymar will be our top scorer with good ratio; as our main player in WCs, he never really had a meltdown like Ronaldinho in 2006; our first ever gold medal as the protagonist, which is a big deal since we lost multiple times with great squads; may not ever win a WC, but then again, it's a team sport and Ronaldo had the likes of Rivaldo and Ronaldinho, and Zico had the 82 generation and was unlucky to miss the chance to beat France in 86; arguably the best of the decade other than Messi and Ronaldo (these two will retire as the top 2 scorers in football history and much more, so they don't count, I'm not talking about GOAT status for Neymar); holds multiple records in Europe; has the numbers to put him alongside Messi in terms of dribbling (eye test he's also incredible); "Joga Bonito" mentality; first to win both Libertadores and Champions League as the top scorer; most goals for Santos ever since Pelé's era and he left as a ~21 yr old, imagine what he would have done here if he spent as many years as Zico playing here; already at ~400 goals as a WINGER; unless his injuries ruin him, he's definitely ending his career with over 500 official goals, which hasn't been done by a winger (for comparison, most recent players to do so are Messi, Cristiano, Suarez, Lewa and Zlatan); good playmaker; etc.
The last years Neymar definitly lost reputation. Lewandowski passed him and by far. Last 10 years i think for me: 1.Messi 2. Ronaldo 3. Iniesta 4.Lewandowski 5.Neymar/Mbappé
I'm brazilian, I remember him since I was child, watching his soccer matches was amazing, always controversial, but was an honor watch him and Ronaldinho Gaucho playing. Neymar is ridiculous!
Romário wasnt a complete footballer like Pele was , I should say as example. However, Romário was an absolute genius on scoring goals. Once Romário said " being a striker is not all about shooting the ball on the target , the good striker makes sure the ball is going away from the keeper's hands and towards the net" Very simple and minimalist in many ways not only in the pitch but also with words as he always had something meaningful to say everytime he had his chance . I miss him a lot Im glad to say I watched Romário play with Bebeto , Rivaldo and Ronaldo , that was the golden age of this generation especially when Romário was on his prime it was magic and brilliance thats gonna last forever for the fans on great memories for sure.
You can't reduce Romario to just " scoring goals". He has the complete package, dribble, technique, vision, speed, finishing. He is one of the best football technicians and dribblers ever, he played as a striker but he sometimes made assists with extraordinary vision. He is criminally underrated

To me, with all due respect to all of them who've graced this wonderful game for decades, Romario remains by far the best allround player. I know Ronaldinho has scored some extraordinary goals, at times on his own too despite playing mostly in the position of a midfielder, Batistuta has been largely underrated despite his quite outstanding performances amidst the hype surrounded the likes of Maradona and Messi, and Ronaldo (from Brasil) had been one of the biggest names of the game from mid '90s to 2000s, the likes of Marco Van Basten, Roberto Baggio and Zinedin Zidane too had been worldclass players in their own right despite the latter two being mostly midfielders .... Still no one comes quite in par with this guy Romario as the title here too implies; "The Most Clinical Striker Ever ...." (in my mind, at least after '90s ...)....
I've watched this clip and he doesn't trip when on the ball in the box. If that doesn't tell you how good he was, nothing will. A true legend who honestly has been forgotten in some way.
Romario was my heroe when I was a kid, I loved his elegance, speed variations, his amazing technique, also what a way to punch the ball, he was unique player
Greatest of all time in the box and one of the all time greats overall period. Watching him play was an amazing experience, every time he touched the ball near the box you felt something amazing could happen
I actually almost forgot about Romario, don't know why media hasn't been more kind to him when mentioning about the greats. Never seen anyone more critical than him in front of the goal.
@@LokyMusik you do know the meaning of underated right? It means that tht player contribution to the game which is nt rated or recognised although they are supposed to be recognised
The best Brazilian player I saw live. Besides his skills Romario was the leader of the Brazilian team in 94. Most fans and videos don't take leadership into account when discussing greatness of players.
he was awesome, but not sure he was a leader in a traditional sense. He was extremely selfish and quite lazy.. you want selfishness in your striker but it´s not a leadership quality and nor is laziness. Yoy could say his leadership came in the form of spreading confidence/a sense of superiority to others.
Possibly the greatest striker ever. Actually criminally underrated, did the impossible on a regular basis at the highest level. Almost alien ability to trick his marker and then get clean away from him
a lot of his moves are fairly predictable. sure he's in the top 50 or so but he doesn't compare to someone like kaka if we are being totally honest. he lacks speed, has only a couple 1v1 moves, and relies on his hyper intelligence and amazing technical shooting to make himself useful in all areas. his lobbing ability is pretty high too but he isn't near r9 etc. his movement seems fairly average and he doesn't look physically imposing. most of the defensive displays in this video were terrible to say the least. romario used his intelligence to exploit their lack of ability to defend and guys like kaka, r9, dinho, hail above him without doubt, because they rely more so on their own ability

When you get near the goals.. think of what would be the riskiest and hardest possible way of scoring in the situation. Execute the move and begin to celebrate before the ball goes in.. a casual jog with a smile and finger shake will do This is Romario. the spontaneous genius
How this little magician is not in the 🐐 conversation is beyond me. He’s like a Brazilian version of Maradona but with more goals in his arsenal. Absolute genius
It is a pure joy to watch the immense skills of Romario unparalleled by anybody. .Romario's plus point is he never trips like Neimar and is stable in his feet While most other players are tripped by defenders.
This is the best player in history , do you wanna know why?? He didnt take training very serious , he always said that he didnt like to train he was not so professional thats why he was natural talented.
This way of life took its tolls on him: in his 30s, he was haunted by serial muscular injuries, specially in calves and hamstrings. Even with this, he managed to play professionally with 40+ years old, maintaining a 1.0+ average in goals/appearances in his late teams. He was twice or more times the golden boot of Brazilian Série A in early 2000s. Now, imagine if this guy took training seriously, as did Kaka, Seedorf or CR7. What a monster he would be...
Youness Bourgui WC is a parameter to decide who is the best at that generation. Euro cup or copa america is not, World cup is. You can name which country that win the world cup that did not deserve the world cup?? Mathaus 90's. Romario 94. Zidane 98. Ronaldo 02. Cannavarro 06. Xavi 10. Muller 14. All of them deserve the WC. Messi did not win it because he didn't desserve it. He did not want to win the world cup. If he want to win the world cup he should go to italy like klose and mario gomez did. The two of them is vital in that world cup 2014 especially klose. He by himself win the copa italia with lazio. He is the one who drive lazio to win a title again. His days with lazio bring him to his champions aura in 2014 world cup. His Tactical skill is far better compare to his bayern munich days. In italy he have to break the annoying defensive minded league. One chance one goal. It makes him have a high level of concentration leading to that world cup. You can look at mandzukic with croatia now. He can win the world cup with croatia. His mental state is superb right now. He along with a lot of seria a player in that croatia team is so dangerous tactically and mentally to beat. It reminds me of klose in 2014 world cup.
Youness Bourgui it's a measure of which players can perform under the highest pressure. Doesn't matter how fit the opposition is, can you make a simple pass knowing the whole world is watching? Can you maintain the quality of your ball control, can you finish it off. France 98 team could, Brazil 2002 could, Romario could in USA. Let's see who can in 2018. BTW why isn't this guy in goat conversation?
Cruyff Said Romário was the best striker he ever coached. Cruyff also Said that Romário wanted a break to go to Brazil for carnival, Cruyff gave him one condition: Score 2 goals, he scored 2 goals against Real Madrid in 20 minutes and asked to be replaced and said coach "the plane leaves in 1 hour..." Guys who does that???? Him. Off he went to get the plane. Some people don't really understand how lethal this guy was.

Those are great players who i c media hyping these now a day to!
He scored a hat trick actually before he left lol
same way when he played for PSV. the season was starting and everyone came back from a break and romario did show up 3 weeks later.

Kids today will NEVER understand just how good this man was.....One of the greatest footballers to have ever graced the great game
Nowadays, kids have no clue about football. they only know about it as of 2010. When you talk about Socrates, Zico, Rivelino, Edmundo, Batistuta, Valderrama, Brasil '82, etc they look at you as if you were talking an alien language.

Cesare Maldini once said that U cant mark Romario n the only way to stop him is to mark the players that provide him with passes.. italy in 94 had to give up attacking just to have 2-3 players watching him n covering for his main providers/passers

I said he is the reason Ballon D'Ors are awarded to people outside Europe (not that he won it right there) because it made no sense to have someone other than him (and both Fifa and France football association agreed) given the fact he won a world cup by himself and taking Barcelona to the final of the Champions League basically single-handedly. Besides that, if we want to get technical, France Football did retroactively declared winners for other years where Latin Americans would have won them... guess who got one for 1994. Romario is amazing, he is the perfect striker. Many thank for share MatigolVidz

It's pure joy and fun to see how he is so focused in putting the ball in the net. If it was acrobatic or just rolling the ball to the goal, he always chose the simplest way. That meaning the most guaranteed way of doing it, as soon as the gap opened, which he was so prompt to make it appear by himself. Since he had the pure finest brazilian football technique, he could take a magic trick out of the hat without any warning, and achieved to deliver some of the greatest moments in football. Pure state of art.

Unlike normal players (there was another two or three being monitored to serve as base line), everytime he received a ball inside box, his heart rate decreased to an average of 50 bpm. All other players monitored, offensive or defensive, when tested in same situation would have HR reaching more than 120 bpm.
Cold blood striker, at his best.
kenhimurabr the guy was born poor in Brazil and used to play championships when he was a kid against other kids, sometimes much stronger Than him, and taller. Had to play in very bad conditions fields. You wonder how he felt playing in profesional conditions. Paradise for him.
So much talent and style. Romario is a legend a bit underrated.
I think he's VASTLY underrated. Imo he deserves top 3 (top 5 at worst honestly) when you rank the greatest Brazilians ever (let's limit to attackers and offensive mids, since it's harder to objectively compare other positions). However, you will see him out of the top 5 in many lists lol
Him, Ronaldo, Pelé, Garrincha and Zico.
Last 10 years i think for me:
1.Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. Iniesta
4.Lewandowski
5.Neymar/Mbappé
Jesus Christ comes to you for Christ Jesus
I'm brazilian, I remember him since I was child, watching his soccer matches was amazing, always controversial, but was an honor watch him and Ronaldinho Gaucho playing. Neymar is ridiculous!
Never get tired of this video. A God of football.

But I've seen the likes of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, ... from Brasil, and the likes of Batistuta, Messi, ... from Argentina .... Still no one comes quite in par with this guy Romario as the title here too implies; "The Most Clinical Striker Ever ...." (in my mind, at least after '90s ...)....

a lot of his moves are fairly predictable. sure he's in the top 50 or so but he doesn't compare to someone like kaka if we are being totally honest. he lacks speed, has only a couple 1v1 moves, and relies on his hyper intelligence and amazing technical shooting to make himself useful in all areas. his lobbing ability is pretty high too but he isn't near r9 etc. his movement seems fairly average and he doesn't look physically imposing. most of the defensive displays in this video were terrible to say the least. romario used his intelligence to exploit their lack of ability to defend and guys like kaka, r9, dinho, hail above him without doubt, because they rely more so on their own ability

WC is a parameter to decide who is the best at that generation. Euro cup or copa america is not, World cup is.

Tapeplixio does it matter ? I don't think so.
