I used to be pretty judgemental about people who may be drawn to something like this but as I got older realized life is so fucking short, let these people find some modicum of happiness. They are not hurting anyone. I swear to god those who judge people on their choice of companionship are coming from a place of insecurity, their own lack of relationship or unhappiness within one.
Tbh, I don't even think this product is really what they want it to be (a "virtual" girlfriend). To me, it's just a hollowgraphic clock that wakes you up, warns you were you're late etc.. It seems pretty fun, though I really don't see how it could "replace" a girlfriend, not even close to it.
In a nutshell, I have a good opinion about it, but paradoxally it's because it's not a virtual girlfriend (or didn't seem to be in this vid).

I guess I'm the odd one out that finds this to be honestly interesting. The technology is cool and the character design is really cute. Never mind there's "interaction", but as someone with clinical depression and a back condition, I can tell you it's hard for me just to function at work. The problem is with how disconnected they already are. Otaku is essentially the Japanese word for nerd and is used to refer to people to have next to no social skills (possibly due to being mistreated by other people in their past) and people who generally do not give anything to society or those they are around. In Japan it used to be that they were considered worse than worthless, being an otaku is a negative thing. But as more people are introduced to things that are normally considered otaku, otakus will be seen in a less and less negative light. Exactly like how nerd is not used as an insult as much as it used to, and actually has positive connotations to it now.

well there is a negative stigma when the word anime is used as most people think of school girls in perverted situations when hearing or reading the word. so to get my point across i used the word cartoon as people tend to think of that as a more innocent/ acceptable word. plus when you get down to it anime is really just a shortened version the word animation which in turn is a word linked with cartoons. hope this helped you understand my line of thinking ^_^

If its tech, it can be modified to have different models, new dialog, more assets for it to interact with, and other features. Just matter of downloading the right things and animation sequences.

As a homebound disabled person who lives alone, I think something like this would be great. It would feel odd having someone physically around all of the time which would make me feel like I'm not truly living on my own. I think having a virtual assistant/companion would be nice to help remind/encourage you to do chores and congratulate you when you make it over the little hurdles you face on a daily basis. If they get it to the point where it could hold a "conversation", that could be beneficial, too. It would be a way to help feel less isolated from others. And, heck, if it helps people practice feeling more open and conversational, I can see that as a good thing. :)
