@@rooster1012 well, lol, yeah thats an issue.
They should sell her house, and put the money back in to the HOA. That would be considered justice. She's a thief. Doesn't matter how much she cries, or acts pathetic. She's a thief, and should have to pay back the money.
While taking her home would be just, I'd bet you a mortgage payment she doesn't have anything close to $250k in equity so it would still be a loss for the other residents.
I don't think she owns a home.
No, if she was an HOA president, we’re pretty much guaranteed she owns, or owned, a home in that subdivision.
It’s up to the HOA itself to do that. The court cannot just take your house like that, when it’s a primary residence.
And the husband knew it was happening. They both should be in prison.
The reason this woman is dangerous is *because she truly doesn't understand that she did something wrong.*
Exactly that is the kind of person that cannot rehabilitate
I’m so confused. She had a dying husband at home but still stole money and blew it gambling at a casino? Who was at home taking care of her husband while she was doing that? Clearly he can be alone…. and she can be in prison.
I was under the impression that he went with her. I am guessing he wasn't as ill at that time which doesn't justify it, and in fact makes this ultra-lenient sentence even more of a slap in the face since they were both out blowing all that money.
Just another narcissist.
And the majority of Utah is going to vote for the biggest narcissist in history Nov 5th. 🤬

No punishment at all. What a lesson to teach the people.
Can't believe she got a slap on her wrist. She knew she was committing a crime. Stealing is stealing, no matter their age. We all know that if this was a younger woman, she would be serving time for that theft and made to pay that money back.

How about giving her time in jail after he passes!?!
The engineer mind in me thought the same thing
The first thing I thought of too, after her partner dies STRAIGHT to Jail!!!!!!
Or a least have someone look after the man for 2 hours while she cleans trash from streets every day for a year, hot or cold, rain or snow
That’s also what I thought the right thing to do would be. But I suspect the judge isn’t allowed to implement such indefinite sentencing parameters.
You can imagine situations where someone seems months from death but lives for 5 years actually. Then it’d be so hard to track the “coming to prison after a certain event” group of criminals. You would need to investigate their situations at some point and that messiness is far beyond our terrible systems management capabilities and resources.
If the guy had no idea about her crimes due to her gambling it all away, he doesn’t deserve to die alone or in the cheapest hospice care center aka torture factory. That would be sad.
But now the judge has put a severe gambling addict with no remorse or empathy back on the streets.
I just read these after I put my comment about after he passes shouldn't she go to prison.

Since the beginning of recorded history, individuals in positions of authority have taken advantage of others in many ways. One thing that separates us from the animals is accountability under the rule of law. Not sure what jurisdiction this court is in, if the judge is elected. I'm dumbfounded by her response. She considers herself to be the victim and has no remorse for those she stole from. She needs real punishment. As soon as her husband is out of the picture, she should be forced into prison.

She ruined her own life. Stealing almost $250000 and gambling it away. Should be in jail IMHO. Here's an idea: when he dies, put her tookus in jail
I was thinking if she was spending it on medical needs of her husband it was one thing. But finding out it was spent at casinos. What ever she suffers she brought it on herself.
I used to work in loss prevention. Once we had to stop an 80 yr old lady who was stealing convenience items (figurines, coffee, etc). The police processed her, and then I got a call to come to the DAs office. He told me he would not press charges against someone in with her demographics. I understood his reasoning, but just think about it for a second. How much of our perception is shaped by crime statistics. If a DA is comfortable enough to disclose to a stranger that he will not prosecute certain demographics how skewed is that data.
I know this case is different since she was prosecuted, but the systems bias is created by the decisions of individuals. They have hospice... her sentence could have been deferred. Stealing 250K is a second degree felony in Utah which carries up to 15 yrs. That judge handled this poorly.
The only thing she is sorry about is Mesquite Nevada is now closed to her ,,,

Never ever live in a HOA neighborhood. All of them are a rip off and a pain in the A.
I lived in a wonderful area with an HOA. But the residents ran it, and everyone came to the meetings. They still do, but the ex has the house now.
Not all HOA's are bad. I belong to an HOA that has no authority over the individual homeowners. We could paint our houses neon green if we wanted. The only functions of the HOA are to co-ordinate with Federal/State/County Fire Dept agencies and to provide haul-off and chipping services for the yearly lot clearance requirements. Dues are $40 per yr and it includes a neighborhood phone directory. There is absolutely no down-side to this HOA.
Old people need lawn care and other upkeeps. It's what drew them to live there.
I, too live in a HOA. Kevin needs to shut up - only the bad ones show up in RUclips videos!
That lady is addicted to lying, stealing and gambling. She denies responsibility for the harm she caused and is playing the victim in order to gain sympathy, a tactic that certainly worked on this judge. Where is his sympathy for the HOA seniors who were ripped off by this woman? The judge should reimburse the HOA members out of his own pocket.
She sure is sad she got caught. The sentence is so light, only the community shame will impact her.
