Rick, you've made it to the UK here, just wanted to say iv'e just started out with DJ'ing and your videos have been very detailed and very helpful on many levels. Thanks and keep up the great work man.
The polarity switch is for if you have a cardioid setup where you have at least two subs in a cluster on stage and you want to reduce stage rumble. You turn one of the subs around the opposite way and select the "Cardioid" or "180" mode. Helps a ton. Look it up on Google.
One thing you can do with your polarity switches. When you have all 4 subs strapped together in front of your rig for school dances, flip two around and reverse the polarity (0 for forward 180 for literally 180 degrees). This cancels out the bass behind your rig so you can have a conversation without yelling over the subs but still pushes full sub power to the dance floor. It sounds nuts but it works. I've seen it a lot at stadium shows too.
Hey Rick, in regards to your auto mix problem. Serato has auto play, it won't mix the songs but it will play them as a play list. iTunes has like a cross fade mix as well, which sounds pretty good. I found using virtual dj and Serato at the same time gave me problems because I would push pause on Serato and it would pause virtual as well. For iTunes you can just rca to 3.5mm cable, on one of your SZ channels, good for dinner music. Keep up the the vidz man, I am sure you are helping many young DJs.
Rick Serato has AUTOPLAY ... You can go onto a Folder and it will automatically play the next song for you and provide a way for you to go talk to people.... LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER of Serato DJ you will see the AUTOPLAY function. Good job and it's hard to DJ a Wedding alone... I give you much respect for doing it.
Hey Man, nice gig log! Like the new format! I like using a game show theme song to open the games i.e. the shoe game it makes it less dead silence while were organizing our game.
+d johnson tons. Lol. Shoe game, pass the box, song release game for dinner, you can have already married couples show the new married couple how to kiss every time the ting the glasses together.
I am an interactive wedding DJ clients love it, the shoe game always rocks, the anniversary dance is interactive. I grab the bride and groom and have one on each side of the dance floor. Then all the brides family and friends join her. Groom family and friends same thing. Then we find out who has the loudest and craziest family. I play the Hi De Ho man song and make each side repeat the line during song. By the last Hi De Ho comes around I unite the Bride and Groom with the family on the dance floor and show them how loud and crazy they are now that they have two families two one. It's symbolic and fun. If you do it there are two versions to the Hi De Ho man song choose the one that's nearly 4 minutes long it has more Hi De Ho repeat and allows you to make comments in between. It also has now got your dance floor absolutely packed and you have to go into a great song I usually go into shout or celebrate.
Hey, Rick you know there many way to use autoplay lists. I would just prep my itune tracks into Aux (Laptop) to RCA (Any of your channel of spare as audio input from your mixer). There is way for Autoplay list in serato dj. Keep up with your gig and doing good job :)
Rick I give you a lot of credit being in school and djing.. That's awesome!!!! I am also happy to hear you want to focus more on mixing than videoing at your events. Yes Vlogging is great learning how to Mix and Program is just as important. A side note for you with software... Just remember VDJ8 will do just about everything Serato does... I myself use VDJ for Weddings and events and use Serato for Bars or Clubs... It would be cool to chat sometime... Keep Spynning those tunes....
Great job!!! and ya.. took a while for me to adjust from vdj to serato. they also have an autoplay. I still use both because vdj plays more audio files like karaoke. and serato only supports certain files. pros and cons. keep up the good work!!!
You should of taken a few led lights and done some up lights in the room. Its very dark in there and would have looked more elegant. I try to uplight my venues as much as possible. All in all good job Mr. Webb.
+Lou Primo Web. But that actually was where they set the lighting too. They wanted it that dark. Weirdly enough. But I pitch uplighting all the time as well
YO, that Jackson 5\Chainsmokers Closer Blend @ 9:00 is FIRE!!! -I need that Fam and I don't see it on either one of the record pools I sub to! WHERE did you get that track???
A little question how are you choose or make you're playlist for the night? I have a struggle with choosing the right songs for a gig. Please can you help me witch genres are the best to play in what for kind gig. Btw I'm a guy Groningen, the Netherlands. 19 jears old and dj'ing for 5 jears. Greetings from holland
+DJ DYBECK i dont make playlist for the nights I just have my library broke up into genres and then I make a judgement on the crowd to determine the music i will play based on experience.
DJ Rick Web thanks for replying! This is helping me. What I need to do is practice practice practice. And try to get so many gigs as possible. Thanks for making this fun and well explained videos!! And please don't stop making this videos! They are helping many little Dj's around the inter world👌🏼😎
+I am Dobix I like seprate volume controls for my subs vs my tops. Makes my life easier if someone complains about bass. Or if the subs are cliping and the tops arent. Less knobs to adjust
I am Dobix I was thinking the same, much easier to run into the subs and from the subs to the tops, that way the subs take the low end and the tops take the rest. And you just need the one left and right out of the mixer. You should be able to control the bass directly on the sub or even via your mixer since all the low is going to the sub and not to the tops. Serato has automix... it doesn't 'mix' it just plays a playlist that you have.
No I understand why. I just hate how many complaints I tend to get for too much bass so one knob on my board vs 1 on the back of each sub was easier. That said I now use a DBX driverack pa2 as you probably know and it let's me do all the crossovers wirelessly via my iPad.
Yo bro loved the raw video man!! killer!!. i got a question for your dmx lighting, how do you setup you pars? meaning to make them change color with the software. Are they on different dmx channels? or the software does that? thanks Ricky killer man keep them coming!!
Rick, you always hook up the subs with both left and right, then pass the L/R to each other, Is there really suck a big sound quality difference ? Can you to a VLOG on the difference?
Rick. If you drop almost all of your lows and a little of your mids on the mic Chanel that is another way to help with feedback. Allows to have gain up a little more
That's interesting. I'm going the opposite way. I have cdj 2000's n I wanted to lighten the weight so I bought a vms 2. None of my clients knew the difference or cared. I will now use the cdj 2000s when I play certain soulful house music events. Good luck with it.
Hey Ricky. If you came to the last resort when downloading songs, would the client be able to tell you have your songs illegally? If so, can you get into trouble with this? Don't want to sound like I do this every gig but have got a couple of songs lie, this very limited times.
+Joe Chalmers not unless your client is a sound engineer no one will be able to notcie if its illegal or legal. Thats why theres a big serg of djs just illegally downloading music and getting away with it. But if your in a pintch it is an option.
As far as a game goes... I do a giveaway of the center pieces, just before dinner is served. I ask someone from every table to stand up and take out a dollar bill... then pass the dollar bill around, while playing some music, (like musical chairs) when I stop the music.... I congratulate the person with the dollar bill in their hand, I say Congratulations you just won..... pause .... a dollar bill......And the person that took the dollar bill initially gets to take the center piece home...... P.S. Nice to see DJ Barr in here commenting. Shout out to DJ Barr! Donde Estan Los Latinos.....
Cool video! Your djing life would be so much easier and better if you just use VDJ all night long. Why would you want to start out with VDJ and then switch to Serato mid-gig? I really don't understand that idea at all. Also I respect everyone's choices, but only when their choices makes sense. In other words, if they have valid reasons or will greatly benefit from those choices. So far I haven't heard any solid reasons or benefits from you about switching to Serato. None. Just think about it and be 100% honest with yourself as to why you are switching. I like you, Rick. You make good videos!
+Vince Gibbs honestly I justified it personally. I find bpm mixing way easier in serato and more enjoyable. And I never switched to sersto in this gig. And it actually heard ny DJing the way some of the buttons work was diiferent in virtual than in serato. I had the experience coming into the gig to be able to DJ a wedding perfectly fine. As weddings are more what song you play and less how you mix. Its a personal thing I want to perfect serato. And determine which platform I prefer. Plus I play at a bar weekly now in which I have to use serato, not an option. As in I play off of another DJs equipment. I just plug my flash drive into his computer which is serato.
Gotcha Rick! Actually, this reply you just gave me was the first time I heard valid reasons from you. I didn't know the club forced you to use Serato. That is a very valid reason to switch indeed. You just never said it before lol. Also, I know you didn't switch softwares mid-gig on this gig. I was addressing the comments you made at 18:54. But now I understand. Thanks for answering my questions.
DJ Rick Web so can you explain here how you run the rca to XLR. Is it 1 end rca to XLR to one sub and then the 2nd rca to XLR to the same sub and then send it to the other sub
+shooze09 R and L rca to xlr conversion cable goes from my booth out on my mixer into the first sub. Xlr cables like both the L and R of that sub to the other sub
...been not to be disrespectful or any thing but if you use speaker stands shouldn't you rap the speaker wire down the poly so the bride, groom, and your crowd don't see nasty wires... Like my dad always tells me "if the wires are showing, it's like you just got panted in public."
BlueThunderBoltStorm3286 no. Wrapping cables looks like crap. Velcro or tape to the back of the poles. Also, active subs are more efficient, and more reliable as you always have a backup.
+jonathon lesko yes sir well my company does. Top hits subscribtions. And I use a DJ pool threw virtual DJ. Looking to add pulselocker too. And maybe DJ city.
Just stuck to record pools! There are tons out there! I use BPM Supreme and Franchise record pool and if I still can't find them I go to iTunes or beatport and pay for those individually. Low bitrates are very noticeable to the experienced ear

+rraner I have just recently over the passed 2 months this concept havent got around to testing it yet. But definitely am planning on testing.
One thing I forgot to say. It works best if you're pair same size subs.
+rraner thats what I was seeing as well
Hey Rick, in regards to your auto mix problem. Serato has auto play, it won't mix the songs but it will play them as a play list. iTunes has like a cross fade mix as well, which sounds pretty good. Great Job Man, Love the gig log... Thanks for the Game ideas I had a client asking me for games this was just what I needed. Thank you! 😊
+Bayardo A Rugama no problem! Thanks barr.

Rick, you always hook up the subs with both left and right, then pass the L/R to each other, Is there really suck a big sound quality difference ? Can you to a VLOG on the difference?
honest vidéo…you did me feel like I was there with you. I will do one like that next wedding gig
why did you hook the sub to the booth instead of the output of the tops?
+Ryan Tafoya seprate volume control for tops vs subs. Easier to reduce bass and adjust them independently
what a good starter light set to get?

Rick. If you drop almost all of your lows and a little of your mids on the mic Chanel that is another way to help with feedback. Allows to have gain up a little more

DJ Rick Web lol yea I've done that before
