How do you migrate the data in DropBox to the iCloud Drive?

I might be missing something here but how do you transfer files from dropbox to iCloud drive using your iPhone?

I would be interested in how to sync Dropbox and iCloud folders than replacing one with the other. Any videos on that?

What a timely video! I was just thinking about finding a way to do this exact thing, just yesterday. Thank you.

You are a fool if you do it …. Icloud is truly shit compare to dropbox. The guy is ieeresponsible to say it can be a replacement. And I actually dislike dropbox… yesterday I finally removed the last of my files from my OneDrive account

Very useful: the new DropBox update is gonna be horrible, so I’m looking to ditch it :-/

⚠ : Unfortunately, iCloud Drive is not yet a hundred percent alternative to Dropbox, especially for apps that work with data containers, such as databases (Devonthink) or apps with project files (Scrivener). Storing such complex data formats under iCloud can possibly lead to synchronization problems or in the worst case destroy data. For simple files, such as JPG or text formats, iCloud can be used well.

Indeed. Major caveat is iCloud Drive only for simple files and folders, nothing else.

Not even … there is no way to selectively store files on icloud… apple wants to push people to buy more space by not letting them decide which files need to be only or offline

I did this last year. Took some time to understand iCloud Drive but once I figured it out, very happy. I do keep a few things on free Drop Box but these are also on iCloud Drive. BTW Drop Box will not prorate your annual cost when you leave which is a very poor policy and you must make sure you don’t auto renew Drop Box. Great review.

It still is wonky and Apple makes it extra confusing.

Would it cause a problem if I set my local Dropbox folder location inside of the iCloud Drive? That way I have double copies of all my files (one local, one on iCloud Drive, and a third on Dropbox).

Hi - was researching this and saw your comment. Did you ever try this? Did it work? Any downside?

    • @richardbryanesq
      @richardbryanesq Год назад

@@PeterKelly82 yes; very bad idea. Lots of confusion about which file to work on; conflicting file dates. Lots of wasted time.

I did exactly this yesterday. Saving £9.99 per month from now on by moving from paid to free Dropbox 😀

I may do that. Drop boxes recent updates are bland and they are all geared to teams. Nothing exciting for individual users.

The one thing keeping me from doing this.
Is a lack of syncing options.
IE I don't want everything on every computer. I want to have options in order to select what I want syncing on what computer.
I was exploring some work around a while back for this but they were working around not a system built-in.
Do we know if this or something like it will be coming? i would love to jump ship from dropbox.

Excellent video thanks. Question. Dropbox is typically system agnostic. How do I get my Apple files account on a PC desktop and also on an apple desktop similar to a dropbox folder on each systems desktop. (Now web browser)

Thanks for this but to be precise it's called Files on iOS just to help people who go searching for the iCloud Drive app which doesn't exist. Also you didn't show us how you got that .png file into the new folder.

I have 6000 photos and videos that I’ve uploaded to Dropbox over the years using Camera Uploads every so often. I now want to drop my $18 a month Dropbox and go with 200 gig iCloud storage.
Using iCloud Drive, should I bulk copy all those files (photos and videos) and paste into a new folder in iCloud drive?
Is there an easy way to sort and/or work with this many files after I transfer, or is it going to be cumbersome? I assume iOS will treat these as files instead of like the photos in my “recent photos”.
And. :-)) I’m still a little fuzzy on whether those files will stay in iCloud folder on my iPad. ie. even without those many files, settings shows iCloud being the largest user of my iPad storage at 38 gb.

Icloud is shit value compared to dropbox… absolute shit. … and I dont even like dropbox! … apple is apple: they do the bare minimum to occupy the space, and then it becomes abandonware for a few years until they kill it or do another absolute bare minimum upgrade. Yesterday i was looking at photos a bit more … the number of obvious BUGS in this thing is crazy… i kept tagging faces with names, and it kept removing the names…. Leaving the info panel open and watching the difficulties it has updating the contents between pic is … shameful… there are many more equally obvious issues with this junk.
I find it irresponsible to tell people that icloud drive can be a replacement…. irresponsible. The only worse thing would be to say that MS OneDrive can do it ….. .. people looking at OneDrive should really look at the thread on the support site describing the issues users have had with the new version of the desktop app (since january)
