During the 2020 lockdowns I would spend many a time walking through the woods with my headphones listening to this peace and my camera in hand. It inspired my creative juices to capture idyllic landscapes then and still takes me back to those moments.

Certainly one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed, or performed.
All the Music of Ralph Vaughan Williams, a great pupil of Maurice Ravel and both great lovers of the Music by Giacomo Puccini, is no doubt the very best the British Isles produced in Music for centuries. Along with Handel, in a different manner, Purcell and Elgar, one of the four Lords of the Isles. Music divine.
An incredibly beautiful piece of music
Recently this piece gave me comfort while my father was dying, it's weird to hear it as it brings up emotions around that time but it's so, so beautiful.

When England shone in resplendent light. Oh, how I wish that light would return, for all is dark now.
England always has this hidden light - whatever tawdry politicians do to it. Yet is it always an advanced, modern(ish) society.... Vaughan Williams (a socialist and a mystic) was able to capture all our country's moods!

Reminds me of being up in the hills of the Lake District. Stunning.
I used to be a landscape photographer by trade, and so I spent a lot of time in beautiful places like the Lake District. And in every place where the beauty was most sublime, I had the music of VW in my mind.
Very evocative of times past; many pasts, actually. Contemplative without being dark. It took me several years after first hearing it to get the name of the piece. The resolution from the minor key to the major at the end is inspiring, a reminder that, despite all, there is hope for the future.

I first heard this preformance via public radio. It was a dedication to an anonymous callers wife for her birthday. I've wondered about the, was she still alive or did this piece hold some special memory? It was so beautiful...I had to add it to my collection. But what an exquisite type it is to dedicate this ans an exquisite type to appreciate it...♥

I know this piece from hearing it on Classic FM. It is in B minor but the best thing for me is the triumphant ending in a B major chord (ie Picardy Third with crucial D#).
Played on the harp at my wedding.

Did the soloist add the fiddle ornamentations in the violin solo at 6:30 ? I havent heard that in other recordings. But i think it fits, interesting to hear it
Mathias Tacke is the Concertmaster of Camerata Chicago and his performance is indeed wonderful. He added the 'lilt' - and Maestro Hall loved it. Mr. Tacke is a superb violinist. He was second violin in the Vermeer Quartet for 15 years - until they disbanded.
Never heard, but it works! And without vibrato it seems more like a bagpipe in the high register! Well done!

Reading the reports of imperfections makes me appreciate my apparent obtuseness. It must be terrible to have ones enjoyment spoilt by a slight blemish which goes unnoticed by lesser mortals.
Such fastidiousness also causes me to appreciate the forgiving nature of what is condescendingly described as "folk" music, which, ironically, inspired this and much else of what the composer created.

Im playing the cello solo at the end for region and im shaking lol
3:43 celli almost ruined everything... Violins saved the show
The camera person did not know this piece. He misfocuses on instruments that are not imperative to certain sections.
This specific piece is cello centered with highlights of other strings, including harp. Too many delayed focuses.
...oh wait....the solo cello at 3:42 AND the bass entrance at :16 screw this whole thing up.
