Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at the weekend, in an El Clasico which seen Jude Bellingham shine with 2 goals to win the game.
While Bellingham is off to a hot start to his Madrid career, Barcelona have cause for concern this season. They sit adrift of Real Madrid, Girona and Atletico Madrid in the table - with this game against their rivals raising some eyebrows about if they are perhaps falling behind their rivals on the pitch.
The Athletic’s FC Barcelona correspondent Pol Ballus, Junior Spanish Editor Tomas Hill Lopez-Menchero, The Athletic’s journalist Michael Cox and Ayo Akinwolere discuss Bellingham's huge rising star status on the world football scene, and just how Barcelona might just be starting to worry.

Ronaldo had already won the CL and PL with United before he came to Spain. Unless you are english, Ronaldo defintely was more of a proven star than Bellingham, hence the massive shock
Jude is only 20 he literally was still a teenager when 2023 started Ronaldo if I'm not mistaken was older than Jude when he signed with Real Madrid
No one under 20 in England thinks Bellingham was more proven than Ronaldo
And Ronaldo won the ballon d'or at United
@@Model_RoeRonaldo was 24 yrs old when he signed Real Madrid
Remember 19 yrs Jude Bellingham almost have won Bundesliga with Dortmund, he injured and missed the last game and Dortmund sucked and drawn the last game in home and they lost Bundesliga by narrow margin, I mean by Goal difference.
It's getting annoying how people keep saying Barca deserved to win or played better. Granted, they had the better lineup and setup at the start. But Real Madrid and Ancelotti's decisions (particularly the subs) allowed the team to adapt and take advantage. Granted, Jude scored an absolute belter, but it was clear in the 2nd half the momentum shifted to Real Madrid.
Wait what better lineup real madrid 😂😂
barca had better he meant that@@Raktim709
bc barca dominated for first half @@Raktim709
Accept the truth. Your team has been playing shit the whole season. It's not annoying. Its the truth
better lineup??? lmao we had academy players, backups and players out of position. your saying anything
Real Madrid have felt like they have a long term plan, Barcelona feel like they panic from one situation to another.
Yep, panicking with players like Gavi, Pedro, Lopez, Yamal. Yep sure they are panicking.
@@AlexeiRamotar Yes. If Gavi played for Real Madrid he wouldn't have had to go back to his old number because of borked finances.
@@AlexeiRamotarpedri was not playing
@@SoundzCoolbut what does a number has to do with the question man for man Barca has a better team than Madrid right now
what does a number have to do with anything lmao
@@SoundzCool
I mean Real Madrid have always been on a different tier to Barcelona, Messi/Guardiola did a lot to close the gap but normality has resumed these past years.
The Dream Team were another level for a few years and the pre Pep & Messi team was better than the Real team of Beckham, Raul etc.
what normality last 8 we won 5 of them and this one you won against the b team honestly and by a fluke
Brih u have 1 La Liga in the last 4 years and I don't even wanna talk about European football lol
@@CarlinConnolly The so called Dream team won a single CL and got destroyed by Milan 4-0 in the final the next season. Meanwhile the Raul era of Madrid won 3 CLs in 5 seasons 1998-2002, go figure. But obviously most Barka fans started to appear after 2006, because before that year they even where less successful than Benfica and Porto for god sake. Putting Barca in the same tier as the great Real Madrid is literally an insult to football.
@@dikshantjha In the last 3-4 seasons Madrid had way better head to head wins, even in the last 6 games in Barcelona Madrid has 5 wins. You even got destroyed last season by 4-0 in Copa and worse head to head statstics in the league despite winning it. Do your homework kid.
Barcelona feel like more and more the villans longer time goes by
Cheating
Pressuing players to take paycuts
Public bashing and courting
Selling off of the soul of the club
Now i dont like Real either but they seem to be doing everything legit and proper with likeable players
True, its a bizarre role reversal.
MATEEEEE u cant be serious right? Real Madrid are literally Spain's club... Barcelona have had to endure years of oppression since Franco's regime and up to the 21st century, Di Stefano was literally stolen from Barcelona by the regime. Now, Barca are not in a good state currently, but to go against the biggest club in the world head to head for years while they're oppressed just like Atletico, takes a lot of balls and guts... regardless in what position they are now, kudos to them for always being there. If anyone is the villain here, it's the club that has always had a whole country's backing behind it, the literal club of the king
Clowning much? @@skywalker996 What's with the victim mentality? Take accountability.
@@teeldinho471 I did, theyre in a shit state, as i said in the comment, the oppression has always been there, anyone in Spain other than Madrid fans will tell you the same
@@teeldinho471 plus this dude is saying CHEATING, like the verdict has already passed, let the verdict be given like big man Guardiola said (which he assured there was no cheating when he was there), false accusations, nothing to take accountability for that
The moment Real Madrid choose their next manager, will answer this question because at the moment, Barcelona have a squad with a lot of growth while playing a style of football and Real Madrid are playing very raw and impulsive football with this batch of player there will be a period of adjustment
I don't think you understand what proper planning is -- and I don't blame you, because you're likely a Barca fan.
Let me break it down to you: Perez is out there buying every young, Golden Boy candidate every transfer window and adding them to other golden boy candidates, (with Endrick coming in also next summer), while Culers are busy overhyping academy players who do not even have a handful of games played. 🤣 Different ball game.
When Ronaldo came to Madrid he was already a balon d or winner and won multiple titles with united .. He deserved every bit of acclaim that he got
Barcelon always jealous with real madrid
It's mostly Barca fans dragging Jude online
Oo really 😂
I’ve heard new camp nou gonna have separate room for morality victory trophies 😂
Good to see Luis Suarez on athletic podcast coming to give his views on El classico all the way from Uruguay
The biases on you guys videos is insane
Of course. Barcelona might win some local titles but no one takes them seriously in Europe. Madrid has been between the 4 favorite teams to win UCL for 20 years in a row
No. Stupid click bait headline
The Athletic is just a hipster news outlet. Cringe opinions like "he didn't dominate but he won the game" . What does that even mean? It means nothing. Winning is winning.
I think Bellingham can reach Beckham star level maybe not CR7 and Messi lever but he can definitely be the face of Laliga
Right now Atletico Madrid are the only team who can compete with Madrid. They are 3 points behind with a game in hand. Barca did not do a transition period like Madrid who started the transition since 2014. If Barca had adopted their philosophy since that time they would be closer. Even Atletico are bringing in young talents like Samu Lino, Rodrigo Riquelme and Pablo Barrios and are helping Atleti challenge for the title already.
😂😂 ya OMG szn is trembling just like last szn 😂
If Jude wins the ucl with madrid he wins the ballon D'or if he wins the Euros with England on top he wins the Ballon D'or for the next 5 years.
Real Madrid will always be a bigger club than Barcelona
la liga’s playing field is quite level right now. it’s in a good place competitively, and no one is running away with it yet. let’s not get carried away
HALA 👑 MADRID
Absolutely. Especially when they finally get Mbappe
I love sports commentators when they think because a team puts on better eye candy that they played better. At the end of the day you can have all the possession all the dribbling all the attempts, what wins you the game is if the ball goes in the back of the net
This is no excuse but you guys seemed to miss the fact that Barca has a lot of key injuries at the moment, Frankie by himself would of changed the face of the game.
Michael Cox looks about 18 😂
They really doing their best to bring Barca down.
Wait who are the current champions of Spain? …
Stop wasting your time with British propaganda. They are the same people who told us Rashford should win the Ballon Dor for being in form for 2 months last season. It feels like they started watching Laliga when Jude went to Madrid. Zero knowledge about the Spanish league. Don't get me wrong Jude is a good player but so are Camavinga, Pedri, Gavi, Tchouaméni, Vinni, Rodrygo, Frenkie and Fede.
Real Madrid literally gifted the league to Barcelona. Barcelona didn't win it from them
@Darth-Shadow so they are bottle jobs like Arsenal? Is that what you saying? 🤔
@@Darth-Shadow12 pts as a gift hmmm😂
@@bossplayaa8165 maybe when arsenal wins a few champions League then you can put them in the same category
Hey Guys, there are other leagues besides Premier. Btw South America, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela exitis and a lot of people here watch Real Madrid, Barcelona much much more than premier. Some of your comment's feels like micro agresion against other leagues
what stupid topic.
for years Barcelona dominated Madrid in derbies and the league and no one dared to make a video with the tables turned
the “glory seeking fan boying” really is just despicable
Barca is always playing second fiddle to Real Madrid... Always
my point is that Barca have, at times, been the pre-eminent spanish club... if you disagree then that's your biased blinkered opinion but you are entitled to it.
What shit is this real madrid is leaving barcelona behind. We have a much better squad with all players fit and its been a very lucky start for madrid with numerous refeering desicions going their way(no surprises).
Nope.. Neutral here, this Madrid squad looks seriously tasty. Bellingham seems a true generational talent. The midfield is insane. Add in a Mbappé and that's team looking to dominate Europe for some time.
Barcelona can't even pay/register their players. And have lost their soul..
@@Bfg12327Madrid looked incredibly shaky for the first 60 minutes and have needed Jude to bail them out multiple times this season - their luck can't last forever.
@@Bfg12327 except Bellingham, none of them reaches fdj and pedri. Add in gundo and gavi and fermin that's an even better midfield when fully fit. Their striker is joselu while we hv Lewandowski. We hv the best centre back depth in world football(bar man city). We are still just 4 pts behind with half the starting xi injured.
@@yi937 your opinion is biased. Ask someone neutral and more than 90% would pick real's midfield and if real get Alphonso Davies as well next summer along wih mbappe there team would be lot better than Barca tho the defence will still be shaky but they would outscore the opponent most of the times and they would play attacking brand of football as well if Xabi Alonso comes in as manager.
@@yi937bark little Barca dog. Maybe that’ll help register some players finally
