Difficulty swallowing meat and other solid foods, while liquids and soups are easier to consume, may indicate a swallowing disorder; please consult a healthcare professional for an evaluation. ❤️
As an adult with a feeding tube I have not been able to find any support for my situation. I was hoping that you would have some sort of open discussion or blog between others. Most sites or support services are specifically designed for children or the caregivers of infants. I feel like an outcast and it’s hard to find any good resources. I am a 33 year old male who was diagnosed with drug resistant right temporal lobe epilepsy. Then recently I was diagnosed with a rare seizure genetic disorder called VPS13A. I have struggled with uncontrollable weight loss. I have been using a g tube for over 6 months and have been struggling to gain or maintain my weight . i am currently on a very vigorous diet and I’m not sure if I can continue to do it without results. I have a follow up with my doctor to discuss my options and I don’t know how to explain that I am exhausted..
I choked when i was 12 and since then i havent been able to swallow most kinds of food and i havent been able find help ever since. I'm 16 now and i only weigh 38 pounds, you're not alone in this and i wish you the best!
Hey. I have been over producing saliva which has made me swallow more than usual. To the point where I swallow like every sentence. I have felt some tightness around my heart at time and heart ache/pain. I have a ENT scan coming up recommend by my doctor as they suspect I have reflux. Thoughts ? I have also felt weirdness in my throat/neck in the past like it feels tight. Bit of a weird one to explain.
@zpsl6215 Overproduction of saliva, frequent swallowing, and sensations of tightness in the throat and chest can indeed be associated with acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The reflux can irritate the throat and esophagus, causing tightness and discomfort. The upcoming ENT scan will be important for assessing these symptoms more accurately. Meanwhile, managing your diet, avoiding trigger foods, and staying upright after meals can help reduce symptoms. It's essential to follow up with your doctor and share any new or worsening symptoms for a comprehensive evaluation.
@ Hi thanks for the response. Do you reckon I’d return to normal function with the correct treatment. If so what is the right treatment? I’ve had this issue before and it went away by itself. Not sure how, but it’s appeared again so I definitely haven’t tackled the root cause. How could I manage my diet. I eat quite cleanly, but if there is anything I could avoid in the meantime it would be great.
It's important to consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation, as prolonged pain when swallowing could indicate an infection, inflammation, or other underlying conditions ❤️.

I have difficulty swallowing for 2 months but the doctor said it's because of high blood pressure but now my BP is getting lower but still struggling to swallow I don't know what I can do
@RuthMoyo-s2f If you're still experiencing difficulty swallowing despite your blood pressure improving, it’s important to follow up with your doctor for further evaluation. Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) can be caused by a variety of issues, including throat or esophageal problems, nerve damage, or other conditions unrelated to blood pressure. A referral to a specialist, such as an ENT (ear, nose, and throat doctor) or a gastroenterologist, might be necessary to diagnose and treat the underlying cause effectively.
I have difficulty swallowing foods but can drink water and other liquids, I think it’s because I use to eat foods while laying on my stomach a lot. The first time it happened was when I was laying down on my stomach while eating pizza, it didn’t feel like I was choking but I just couldn’t swallow the food and when that happens I sat up and tried to continue but it felt like I was finna throw up. Fast forward a few day I made nachos and while I was eating, all of a sudden I felt like I was about to choke while I was trying to swallow the food and I jumped up because I got so scared and didn’t know what was happening then I drunk water to make it go down then tried to eat another bite same thing happened and my heart was pounding and I was to scared to eat again so I put it away and said I’m going to try to eat again the next day. Now it has been about 4 or 5 days and I can only drink liquid and if I eat something like mash potatoes I have to eat baby bites and mix it with water to swallow it. I am 17 btw
Sometimes at night it feels like there is a lump in my throat and when I lay down my neck has to be at an angle like laying on my back with my head proped up against pillows or on my side proped up against pillows for me to swallow my saliva and if I try to lay flat I can barely swallow. I think it’s probably anxiety whenever I have to swallow because when I wake up I can swallow all I want to but when I think about swallowing and try to swallow I sometimes can’t swallow
@Livvie64 I'm really sorry you're going through this-difficulty swallowing can be scary and uncomfortable, especially when it happens suddenly like that. What you're describing could be related to anxiety, muscle tightness, or possibly something called dysphagia, which is a condition that affects swallowing. It's important to talk to a healthcare provider as soon as possible to rule out any serious conditions and get the right treatment. In the meantime, try to eat softer foods and stay hydrated, but don't hesitate to seek medical help. You're not alone, and it's good that you're being proactive about your health.
I started Metropolol 2 months, now I have a ball in my œsophagus when I swallow and my acid refluxes went from at night while in bed or very empty stomach to all day, I vomit in my mouth. I always wonder how some people don't get side effects and how medications can be approved with so much bad side effects and how doc can prescribe them! 😢
@TheVoyeure It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time with these side effects. Medications can affect everyone differently, and it’s frustrating when they bring more harm than help. It’s important to talk to your doctor about what you’re experiencing-they might be able to adjust your treatment or offer alternatives to help you feel better. Hang in there!

@hoovy4395 Pain when swallowing could be a sign of irritation or inflammation in your esophagus, possibly due to acid reflux, an infection, or another condition. @pratiushadhikarii Difficulty swallowing, known as dysphagia, can be caused by various underlying conditions, ranging from muscle or nerve problems to obstructions or inflammation in the throat or esophagus. Since this issue has persisted for a long time, it’s important to seek medical attention promptly. @PrayashChowdhury-vb2lq It sounds like your condition is progressively worsening, especially if even liquids are difficult to swallow now. While acid reflux can cause these symptoms, your doctors may need to rule out other underlying issues. If you’re unable to eat or drink properly, hospital admission for further investigation and immediate care might be a wise step. Follow your doctor's advice closely.

@Divyavlogs2407 If you have difficulty swallowing pills, cutting the tablet in half can sometimes make it easier, but you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Some medications are designed to be swallowed whole due to special coatings or release mechanisms, and cutting them might affect how the medicine works. Alternatively, you can ask about liquid forms of the medication or methods to make swallowing easier, like using a pill-swallowing cup or mixing the pill with food (if allowed).
