@@AutomateYourLife do you have access to the location you did the installation on? If so, just a snap of the opener showing the wires will help. Also, have you had any problems with the use? I am thinking about this for my 85 yr old mother.
Hello, this equipment that you explain here, do you always have to install it with the sensor that has that huge one, which indicates that it has closed, or can it be installed without it??
A little tough to do so with this one Bill. It can connect to Google and Amazon, but neither have a really good geofencing option right now. You could do it potentially with Alexa based off a routine and a trigger, but the geofence is too large right now.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks. I tried and resulted in needing the compatibility part. I had the yellow learn button for my Liftmaster. Waiting on it to come in. Thanks!!
How do you tack the wire on the ceiling going from the garage door opener to the actual garage door. What I mean by that is what do you use to hold the wire up on the ceiling from falling?
So I just used a few little cable ties like this: www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Organizer-Holder-Durable-Management/dp/B07Y4ZYRQ3 Might help, but it depends how rough and dirty your ceiling is in the garage.
Thanks for the detailed vid -- are you able to disable the assistant from opening the garage, but maintain closing functionality? (I don't want assistant to be able to open my garage)
The short answer is no. However, what I’ll say is that you could create a shortcut/routine to close the door that’s easy to remember, but not create a shortcut/routine to open the door. Then give the door a really hard to remember name or impossible to pronounce.
Update a year later... the Meross support FAQ now says you set the assistants (Google, Alexa) to require a voice PIN when a user is asking to open the garage door. The Meross garage device is seen as a lock, not a switch. I’m not sure if you would then also require the voice PIN for closing. In the Meross app, you can choose the option to require a PIN for opening. And then, also choose to require the same PIN for closing. I’m not sure if the Meross app PIN and the Google/Alexa PINs are related.
Question : Does it know if it is open to not do anything if you say to google to open the garage door rather than closing it? That's my problem with current installation with different Smart Life device. Or if you know how to achieve that, then it would be helpful. Thanks.
I have just bought this & fitted it here in the uk. They’ve updated the box of tricks by hard wiring all the cables , so the only physical thing you have to do is screw in 2 wires. It works perfectly.
@@AutomateYourLife a couple of things that are a pain, in the door openers app you can’t set a schedule to open or close the door , with Amazon echo you can set up a schedule to close but not open . A bit of a bummer if you have set your car to auto start (heat up) & the garage door is still down trapping the fumes.
@@AutomateYourLife the only option when I set up a routine with my echo is to Lock , no unlock option. Btw I’m in the uk , I don’t know if the software in echoes are the same with you guys
Ok so the command to close a garage door phone physically is to close the circuit. The command to open a garage door is to close the circuit. So either command should do both! I could be wrong but most garage doors here work that way!
How do you disconnect the wires on the motor was not shown. I am down to the last step and can’t get the wires on the motor hole a video on getting the wires out and pushing bothe wires would be helpful. I am stuck
I didn't disconnect the other wires. They go to my remote on the wall, so I left them. I just fit both in. If you're stuck, you'll want to tie the two together with a third wire that you could fit in. But you should be able to open up the connector and fit both in.
Nice video. It appears this device used a normally open (NO) switch to output a signal to open/close garage door. So if the garage opener switch is normally closed (NC) this won't work, right? Is there any workaround? TIA
Yeah, so you'd need a relay to flip that status right? You'll have to watch that it can catch a momentary pulse/change from this. Or you could just use a door sensor and a smart relay. That'd probably work better for you! Zooz, Sonoff, Shelly. Lots of good options :)
Do you know if you can start the magnets closer to the opener? I've been won/wandering if you can have everything right there @ the source Garage Door Opener? Not being an AH but IDK never tried this b4 and thought maybe a way to trick the system so to speak like vice versa. Not sure just asking and why are they using so much wire? Just put the magnet next to the source. IDK just asking.
Will my existing garage door button, keypad and remote still operate the opener ?? (To be able operate For convenience, family members and wifi outages)
Hi Brian! I've got a terminal block on the circuit board of my garage door module with "PWR, PE, PE-, GND, OSC, AUX" inscribed under it. Do I screw in the signal control wires in any of these terminals? Can't see any other locations on the circuit board to attach the signal control cables to. Massively confused.
Pretty hard for me to support this. I can't see the install and even if I could, I can't see the wires. So you're going to have to know your own garage door system here, but what I can tell you is that the Meross is just closing the circuit and allowing (if I remember correctly) 5V to be applied to the circuit. If your existing push button in your garage goes into any terminal blocks that you can see, that's where I'd start. That's the circuit that closes when you push the button. But understand that garage door openers have different electrical requirements, so you need to understand that before you just go wiring something in.
Need some advice... I followed your instructions ... worked perfectly... thank you kindly. The only problem is that the icon on the app shows door is open when it is closed. How can I fix this? Thank u kindly
Good video. However, I am struggling to understand how and where did you place your sensors with close camera angle. Almost all tutorials missing that unfortunately
Is there a way to change the magnetic sensor from normal close to normal open? I found a way to install one sensor on the garage opener case and the other on the moving rail..
Hi Mauricio - This isn't something I've tried but I imagine it would take a flash of firmware. I don't know of any and I haven't seen this inherent to the device or anyone really playing with these that way. What are you trying to do that you'd want it to switch?
I plug the wires (blue and brown) into the holes for the manual switch but it does not open the door. my motor has MyQ integrated and it is already wifi, I only want it to control it with Alexa. Do you know if it is not compatible? Model #B6753T
Great video. I just installed mine today. Do you know if I'll get a notification that my garage door is open when I'm not home? Or do I always need to be in WIFI range to see all notifications?
Followed instructions provided by meross and here but can't get the opener to work. i have a Chamberlain B550. I here a clicking sound but the door will not open or close. I know I am connected to the correct terminals. Any suggestions?
You're probably going to have to factory reset it. The reason being that you can't change those credentials or make a new connection through the app if there's no way to communicate with it through your WiFi.
As always, thanks again Brian for super helpful video! Both my MyQ-Edge ST and Hubitat integration (using community developers apps) with MyQ both went bad again this week (4th time now in 8 months), so wanted to look at alternative methods of integration with MyQ to my existing Google/ST/Homekit/etc ecosystem. But I did have a few basic questions: 1) I already have a Chamberlain MyQ WiFi Smart Home with the yellow learn button. Do I need to get the Meross Accesory for pairing this Meross MSG100HK Device? Some say yes, some say no. 2) I assume even with this Meross connected, my regular OEM button and car’s garage opener linkage to the Chamberlain itself is still intact, and this won’t interfere with any of that functionality correct? 3) Lastly, you said at end of video, the Scenes and Routines don’t work? I assume you mean within the Meross app itself, but you can get automations via Google, HomeKit, SmartThings, etc correct?
This is a suuuuuper old video for me now, so I'm not going to be able to answer too much. I tried a more recent version of this (which has homekit and other compatibility that you'll want) and I'm sure Scenes/Routines are worked out. This was very early days for Meross. As for question 2, yep your existing garage door opener works. Nothing changes there. I unfortunately can't speak to anything about Chamberlain MyQ. That company is so confusing all the time with their options anyways. And constantly changing.
@@AutomateYourLife Yeah I realized this video was pretty old, but I think a lot of the setup process probably remains the same, and I value your detailed walkthroughs. I did end up getting the newer model of this (MSG200HK which supposedly has better WiFi antenna, multi-garage door functionality, and HK compatible). Thanks for confirming the functionality.
so my hubby set it all up. the garage door opens using his iPhone and google nest hub. He sent me an invite so that I can open the garage door thru my iPhone. I downloaded the Meross app. Now what do I do to connect???
Because that's the command that you issue over the Internet, and delivered to the device via home WiFi: to momentarily bridge(electrically connect) the 2 terminals. That's what happens when you press and release a wall switch, or effectively also when you press and release a handset remote.
Might have already been asked, but I saw somewhere on an Amazon review that the meross can also connect to any opener remote as well. Do you know this to be accurate? My opener is over heard door but they don’t even make keypads and remotes for this model anymore, but would be awesome to use cheap chamberlain or whatever else to control it, even with the opener itself being a totally different brand. Hope that makes sense.
Think of it like a pushbutton remote, just without that pushbutton. Those two wires go into just about any opener that fits the electrical specs on the device. The pushbutton just ends up in an app, annnnnnd you can still have a pushbutton on the wall.
@@AutomateYourLife correct, I’m just wondering if there is a way to program an off brand sun viser style button remote that I can physically keep in my car, or if those aren’t compatible with the meross
Great stuff. I wonder if there would be a way to "split" the sensing and run a wire to a second garage door - and/or another wire to the door into the residence. That way even though the controller only manages one door opening and closing, I could get the notification benefit when ANY door opens or closes - both each of my garage doors, and the entry door to the house.
@@AutomateYourLife The way things are going the word "wired" is becoming obsolete in so many things. It's absurd that Roost gets $40 for a simple wireless sensor. Anyway, for Meross, I'm wondering if I could crack open the sensor and run a wire in series to the other garage door, and the garage-to-kitchen door, where each has a normally closed switch. Like Lead 1 on cracked open sensor-----------terminal 1 on other garage door sensor--(normally closed)--its terminal 2-----------terminal 1 on garage-to-kitchen door sensor --(normally closed)--its terminal 2-----------terminal 2 on cracked sensor. If I'm correct, the circuit is normally closed over a set of 3 normally closed magnet sensors, and if any of them opens, Meross will read that as a door opening. Seems like I just have to "tap in" to the Meross wired (fixed) sensor to do it? (The terminals on most off the shelf sensors are exposed, or just have a plastic shield screwed over them; but the Meross one APPEARS to be sealed. Is it?)
garage door opener. And when I make a routine to close the garage door (shows as a lock in devices on Alexa app) I keep getting that error. Can’t figure out a way around it. To make the routine. Please help.
Want to see the wiring installed and the app buttons opening the door at bare minimum and to have a 5 star rating maybe a video from inside the car showing when the phone connects. Do you have to be right at the door?
The distance is based on how far your wifi reaches. If your wifi reaches down the street, that’s how far away it works from. As for the wiring, the only real wiring you complete in your garage is that long black wire which is the door sensor. The other wire is really short and it just connects into the garage door opener itself. Thought I showed both of those within the video, though.
Oh and the app is literally one button with a graphic for open/closed door. You press the picture of the door. Thought I showed that too...maybe not on that oneZ
I didn't have to open up any specific ports, but I didn't lock anything down heavily back when I had this! Sadly, I've moved on just because I have to test out so many devices!
Hi, I have a wall button with two keys: up and down. There are three wires: blu, brown, black. Could you tell me how to connect Msg100? I wrote Meross, waiting an answer...
Hi Meggie - So without knowing where you live and your setup, I can't tell you exactly. Here's what you do though. You take a tiny piece of wire and you make a quick (like touch and take off) connection. That'll tell you which two wires you connect the MSG100 to. :) Then it's just like my video. Unfortunately though...when I hear you have an up and down button...I don't think it'll work. You might need one for up and one for down. That would be pricey, but the only way I think. You could also rig up like a logic based thing...but I'm not going to be able to explain that here.
@@AutomateYourLife Thank you so much for your answer! I agree: I don't think I can use it for my configuration... if I make a connection between up and neutral, this would works only for opening. And viceversa. Linking two phase, the automatism would tilt, right? :D What a pity! PS: I'm in Italy :) Could I try with some Sonoff device? If yes, which one? Thank you!
MORE INSTALLATION TIPS IN THIS COMMENT - some of which might be actually useful - First, THANK you. This was my go-to installation guide. And coupon worked: shipped fast. I couldn't make such a simple to follow video with tons of VALUABLE tips. But here are a few that I'm sure you only left out in order to keep the video from being too lengthy: 1. Your tip to ensure power outlet was important. The power cable is not crazy long, so a multi outlet extension cord "tacked" and wrapped here and there may be worth consideration. 2. Those 2 leads from the electric outlet really are A/C power. I just mindlessly held them with my fingers after plugging in, and thought, wow, those leads at the other end are sharp. They weren't. That was electricity. Put tape over the ends temporarily if you're one who puts the plug in first. (I was being lazy, saving myself moving the ladder and making another trip to the outlet in the ceiling. Proper procedure is to leave unplugged until attached. But I'm betting that such laziness [also called "timesaving"] exists with others too :) ) (And yeah, it's only 120 - but bump your sweaty arms against those loose leads :( ) 3. The 2 tiny lock screws for attaching those 2 power leads can come completely out and drop 8 feet to the ground, never to be seen again. If you loosen them for easier insertion of the leads, be ready for that. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. They are hard to find even if you had a searchlight illuminating the floor. 4. If you don't have the test lead handy use the short control cable, blue to blue or gray to gray, to test. BTW, if you have 2 wires that run along the ceiling and down to a push button visually follow them, and you might try those two first for your test connection. 5. That raises the point that you CAN install your unit by the wall switch, instead of atop the motor. Can you think of any catch why that wouldn't work? It would still need to connect to A/C power, and to the long cord that goes to the magnet sensors. I'm thinking that's the better route, except that there should be no reason to ever maintain it, so might as well tuck it up near the ceiling out of the way. (Also maybe more secure from tampering?) 6. Use cheap flimsy masking tape to hold the long magnet sensor cable to the track as you stretch it out initially, in order to determine how much slack is available on each end of the cable. You don't want to start securing it firmly from one end and work down to the other, then discover that you didn't leave enough length to reach. However, if you do come up short, you can install the magnet sensors higher up from the bottom. I don't know any benefits to putting the magnets high vs. low, as long as they square up. Perhaps higher would lessen the chance of someone bumping into them. 7. Consider removing light bulb (when cool) for easier access to opener screw terminals. Unless I did that it was an ungodly action to reach and turn the screws, and impossible to hold the wire in place while doing that. 8. When installing the magnets, mark the wall spot you want, and mark the door spot you want, and open the door 1/2 or 3/4 way up for better access. I found it made things more reachable, even though I was installing two "nearly" contacting items while they were several feet apart. Mark carefully :) Again, I'm sure you would have included the useful ones of these but if you put in every handy tip it would run 45 minutes, so I'm throwing them out here in the hope that someone who is relatively novice can avoid a little frustration. I GOT this bitch! Thanks to you! It works! It took me more like 3 hours to do a 20 minute job (I could give 50 more tips and pitfalls that caused that - though dropping tiny tiny screws was a great time consuming catastrophe). This is my first ever home WiFi device other than PCs and smartphones. I'm really stoked. And I wouldn't have even ordered it unless I watched this video and saw that it was doable. Thhhhhhhanks for empowering my life!!
Installation query!... My brother's MSG100 Meross device has blue and black terminal connections (stated to be interchangeable) but the garage control panel that it was supplied with (Teleco Automation TVRSP868E02) has three control terminals (brown, green and white) - presumably that ties in with its own physical remote control being a two button device but I'm not entirely sure whether there's a link there. Does anyone have any idea which two of these three control panel terminals the brown and blue Meross wires need to be connected to? The Meross installation guide seemed to be silent on this and we couldn't find anything at all from Teleco! (Also, out of curiosity, how does the Meross unit send distinct open/close signals along these two wires and how do these interact with the three wire Teleco control panel system in terms of signalling compatibility?) Thanks!
It doesn't send distinct signals. It's just a close or open circuit, so that's the type of garage door opener it's compatible with. It might not work with yours...or you might have to buy 2 (one for open, one for close) if there are separate connection points for each
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks! That would explain the signal puzzle. The whole thing was supplied directly by the garage door manufacturer so it ought to be compatible, but we'll have to wait until they reopen after Christmas to obtain their advice. Merry Christmas!
Great video. I’m quite late to finding this technology 😀😀 I just lost my garage door opener and instead of buying another found this solution. I don’t have Alexa, a smart home or smart garage. Hoping I can just use the iPhone app to operate the Meross door opener when I arrive and leave. For my work I use a lot of rental cars and that’s how I lost the opener.
@@AutomateYourLife I do not have an Apple Home kit. Must I have that for the Meross to work? Thanks So glad you replied. I had just ordered the wrong item on Amazon. 😀 I will cancel it and get the right item.
Great review and setup walk through. I actually have one, bought it off their Indiegogo campaign, but haven't set it up yet. This will be very helpful. Thanks. and keep up the great videos!
Does this require a 2.4GHz connection? I have a Google WiFi router (standalone unit, no mesh system) and it doesn't seem to play well with 2.4GHz switches.
I need to take my 2.4 GHz switch far enough away from my Google router to get the 2.4 signal to connect and setup the switch in the applicable app. Once the switch is setup and I move back to close proximity of my router, Google seems to want to communicate on the 5GHz band which obviously doesn't work. Or I have a defective switch (it's not a Meross switch) made of pure Chinesium, which is highly possible. I was hoping the Meross switch would be different than my current cheap switch, but I am guessing it will exhibit the same behavior with my Google router.
nice review - though after about 6mos, mine has now decided to open and close randomly after I initially click in the app to open/close it - seems to have started happening just after the firmware 'upgrade' too.... tried different settings including changing trigger duration - may have to reset it all and start from scratch, bleh
No, at this point I won't be. At least not anytime soon. I think you could head over to community.automatelife.net and check in with those folks and I bet someone's got it integrated.
i tried connecting the meross smart home integration with Google home but google home keeps saying i need a security code. how do i set up a security code?
Hi and thank you for this great video. I have since watching this purchased this product and have installed it in my home. Both me and my wife have however found out that even though the opener have its own sensor for knowing if the garage door is open this sensor can not be trusted atleast not with google home assistant. I have integrated the device with my google home assistant and if you issue the open voice command you will get a pin code challange. However if you close the garage door you do not get the pin code challange and the garage door closes. Unfortunately alot of times you can also use the close voice command to open the garage door. If you have google home assistant active in your home someone could shout from outside " Hey google! Close garage " and gain access unchallanged.
Yeahhh, so it's great to think about security gaps like this. I would suggest you not name it garage first of all. Something you and your wife can agree on. Also, the sensor...that's definitely a google type problem here. They have no way to verify anything.
Thanks for the video! I got it installed, connected to app, etc. (Chamberlain opener), but the app won't open/close the door and neither will Google Assistant. Does anyone have thoughts on what to check into?
The app won't close the door...wait. You have a set up problem. Did you try shorting the connection for a second to see if the door would open? That little cable you got is your tester.
I appreciate the video. It was very helpful. One thing that I learned the hard way is that the sensors are "closed door" sensors only. You cannot mount them to the upper end of the track and then tell the app that the door is open.
Is anyone experiencing interference with existing garage door remotes? Ever since I installed my Meross device, I have to push on my remotes several times for them to work. I put the Meross controller on top of my motor unit. If you do have this issue, what did you have to do to fix it? Yes I do have new batteries in my remotes.
You know...I thought I was initially but it went away within a few days. I didn't move the device either. It just stopped interfering. It shouldn't interfere based on frequencies, but I thought the same thing for a few days.
Hmmm, well I'd try to unplug the device for a few days then and see if it resolves. There's a possibility with any set of frequencies in cancelling each other out.
Yes you should also be able to set up your wife on the Meross app or link up Meross to Alexa if you’re using Alexa in your home, that way she can also control the opener 🙂
I just installed mine yesterday... works fine, but I can't get alexa to work... granted it's a ECOBEE Smart Thermostat, but supposedly it should work... just haven't figured out that part yet, althought it doesn't matter too much. Also push notifications stopped after one day even though still works for open and close.
Great video, helped me a lot with my install. One suggestion that made my install easy. Instead of adding the Meross unit on top of the garage door opener, it may be easier to install closer to the inside wall switch. All you have to do is splice in the control wires with the switch wires (Just make sure sensor wire is long enough to reach). That gave me better wifi signal as it's closer than the garage door unit. Meross worked perfectly.
The video is aowsome, but I would recommend if you can review the Broadlink RM Pro where it will integrate to the other systems and can learn the RF radio frequency from you remote. Wire free setup and the device can be indoor also 😀
When I go to link my account it says it links. But if you go back it will show that the account isn't linked. I could get IFTTT working but not Google Assistant.

I don't know your garage door opener, but what you'll notice is you likely (check this) have 2 signal wires that come from the button controller you have. Put the wires for the Meross into those same slots and you should be good to go! Of course, read your manual and beeeeeeeeeee careful!
Great video. Very informative. Helped me out with my 2 installs. Do you know if there's any way to change the "Door number" in the Voice Control section of the Meross app? I set up my openers in "reverse" order. I tried deleting and re-adding, but the numbers just keep incrementing....I'm now on door 1 and door 3 :(
You can build this same device out of a $5 sonoff basic switch All you need is the sonoff and a magnetic Reed sensor switch And a FTDI or other USB to serial UART TTL adapter to flash the sonoff The whole thing can be made for $7-$9
It's definitely not complex stuff going on here, and without checking exactly what components you've suggested...I think you're right. I'd had similar thoughts using the device. I think for many people, putting together a device with those components might be a struggle though, so this is a good package I think. :)
@@AutomateYourLife www.instructables.com/id/Sonoff-Garage-Door-Opener/ There is a tutorial but I went another way and just used 2 cheap rf 433mhz relays and DPDT momentary push button switch And my broadlink RM pro , with RM plugin bridge app running on my Android box My garage is detached and the wifi signal out there is not relaible I wired the 2 relays and the switch so that one relay programmed with one fq is to open and the other one is for close and uses a different fq With the econtrol app you can download other people's rf remote profiles and then use those to teach the relays the fq ,instead of buying key fobs to teach them
True but does it notify you whenever the door opens, and when it's been open X minutes? And how do you wire the sensor to the Sonoff? I also perhaps mistakenly thought the (Sonoff combined with eWeLink) just turned things off or on (closed a circuit, or opened if N/C), rather then detected if a circuit is open or closed?
@@Bill_Woo not sure how the software end works exactly but I know that you can connect a sensor to the GPIO pins in the sonoff so yeah I guess that it would have state reporting
Great video !!! Clear, Concise !!!.. 2 questions: 1. I am still not clear what terminals you are shorting to TEST the compatibility of the unit to my garage door opener. Is it the same terminals where the GDO Wall Push Button attaches to the HEAD of the GDO ? 2. Control Signal Cable: Same question. What terminals does it attach to on the HEAD of the GDO ?
1. Yup! Exactly, you’re testing if a pulse short will trigger your garage. That’s what the Meross device does. Most GDO wall push buttons just short to power for a second and the GDO senses the rise in control power
@@AutomateYourLife Hilarious ! On a different note, my home WI-FI signal inside the garage is two bars using my iPhone. Is that enough ? I prefer not to extend my Wi-Fi signal or add another wireless access point if I don't have to.....
I have a GoControl zwave garage controller. works with almost any garage door unit made after 1996 (and many before). Much easier to setup. power cable has a barrel connector to plug into unit. then the unit has 2 wires to go to the motor where the wall button connects, and the door sensor is wireless requiring a 2023 flat battery. 5 minute install, no running wires. less scary for people not wanting to play with 120V. I love having an automated door opener.
@@AutomateYourLife probably. only had mine for a month or two. I also install the same unit through work. I like seeing other makes/models. I wasn't trying to say one is better than the other, just letting others know there are more options out there.
I really would like more info on how it works with Google home. I have the My Q device and it just doesn't wrok that well. You can NOT ask google to open it. And when you ask it to close... it sits and beeps for like 10 seconds before closing. Not to mention you have to pay a monthly fee to use Google. So please do a vid showing how it works with Google
The lack of Chamberlain/MyQ support for an Open Door command when tied to voice activation is probably a security feature that is unlikely to change. Imagine people with a land line phone within earshot of a smart device like Google Home, then all it takes is for some social engineering for an unwanted user to call the phone, wait for voice mail to pick up, then ask to open the door. I removed my landline last year but was concerned about possible exploits until then. The beeping is also a security feature that they are unlikely to change since it is to alert unaware bystanders (e.g. kids) to be alert that the door is coming down.

Can this unit be set up to open and close the garage door using geofencing?
A little tough to do so with this one Bill. It can connect to Google and Amazon, but neither have a really good geofencing option right now. You could do it potentially with Alexa based off a routine and a trigger, but the geofence is too large right now.
Thanks for the info, it is vary much appreciated.
It now supports Apple HomeKit and you can set geofencing up through that.
Hi , for the shorting process do I replace the wires that’s already connected with the white shorting cable and try to open garage?
I don't even replace them, but yes that's where the shorting cable goes. To the spots your existing remote goes into.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks. I tried and resulted in needing the compatibility part. I had the yellow learn button for my Liftmaster. Waiting on it to come in. Thanks!!
looks simple, but will my cars homelink buttons still work ?
Yep, changes nothing with the existing buttons. It's just an extra option.
How do you tack the wire on the ceiling going from the garage door opener to the actual garage door. What I mean by that is what do you use to hold the wire up on the ceiling from falling?
So I just used a few little cable ties like this: www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Organizer-Holder-Durable-Management/dp/B07Y4ZYRQ3
Might help, but it depends how rough and dirty your ceiling is in the garage.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks -- seems like this is a security hole
Oh that's really good! Thank you for letting us know!

Can you continue to use your regular garage door opener remote-in case you lose WiFi or power and it has to be reset?
Absolutely! That's one of the best parts of these solutions

Adding to my previous post I just got one and looking for shortcuts if anyone has one. Just thinking out loud I guess.
Crap!!! Started reading and someone already came up with idea...Sorry no comment need unless you want too.
Will my existing garage door button, keypad and remote still operate the opener ?? (To be able operate For convenience, family members and wifi outages)
Yep!
So it is wifi only, no car remote options?
Phone app for sure. You could make other options too, but yes.
Whats the diffrence between the white and the black versions? Also my black one came with USB for power and not a plug and already installed.

Sounds like it's not compatible to be honest.

No clue! Have a link?
Where in the app can I update it with a new router? Its unreachable since I got the new router. thanks.
You're probably going to have to factory reset it. The reason being that you can't change those credentials or make a new connection through the app if there's no way to communicate with it through your WiFi.
Mine was working fine for about a month then all the sudden is opening on its own without any notifications to the app. How do I fix this ?!?!?
Clearly a major issue and may be related to many things. I would suggest removing it, and then contacting Meross. It's likely a hardware issue
But I did have a few basic questions:
1) I already have a Chamberlain MyQ WiFi Smart Home with the yellow learn button.
How many of these can be used together? I have four garage door openers, can I just buy four of these units?
Absolutely.
so my hubby set it all up. the garage door opens using his iPhone and google nest hub. He sent me an invite so that I can open the garage door thru my iPhone. I downloaded the Meross app. Now what do I do to connect???
Create a login with that email address he shared it to. :) Then you may need to click that link that was sent again.
How does shorting the garage door opener terminal determine its compatibility? Just curious.
Yeah that’s a good question. It’s just because essentially they’re closing the circuit for a short pulse when you press your garage door opener
Because that's the command that you issue over the Internet, and delivered to the device via home WiFi: to momentarily bridge(electrically connect) the 2 terminals. That's what happens when you press and release a wall switch, or effectively also when you press and release a handset remote.
@@Bill_Woo yes i realize this now. thanks
I think you could if you just tied the two sensors together. Honestly, I’d probably just suggest a door open/close sensor set. That’s what I use!
Like
Lead 1 on cracked open sensor-----------terminal 1 on other garage door sensor--(normally closed)--its terminal 2-----------terminal 1 on garage-to-kitchen door sensor --(normally closed)--its terminal 2-----------terminal 2 on cracked sensor.
Is it?)

It's a pain now. They have changed how it connects to make it easier to connect, but it's now tough to make it open automatically without a pin
@@AutomateYourLife I want it to close when I leave using a location based alexa routine. Can you do that?
Great tutorial. Thanks. Does it work from outside of the local network over https? or do you have to open any specific ports on your firewall?
I didn't have to open up any specific ports, but I didn't lock anything down heavily back when I had this! Sadly, I've moved on just because I have to test out so many devices!
Can you still use the code outside and the push button inside? Or is it strictly app based?
You can push the button inside! Don't worry about that!
@@AutomateYourLife what about the outside keypad?
Thank you!
MORE INSTALLATION TIPS IN THIS COMMENT - some of which might be actually useful -
First, THANK you. This was my go-to installation guide. And coupon worked: shipped fast. I couldn't make such a simple to follow video with tons of VALUABLE tips. But here are a few that I'm sure you only left out in order to keep the video from being too lengthy:
But I'm betting that such laziness [also called "timesaving"] exists with others too :) ) (And yeah, it's only 120 - but bump your sweaty arms against those loose leads :( )
(Also maybe more secure from tampering?)
Mark carefully :)
Again, I'm sure you would have included the useful ones of these but if you put in every handy tip it would run 45 minutes, so I'm throwing them out here in the hope that someone who is relatively novice can avoid a little frustration.
I GOT this bitch! Thanks to you! It works! It took me more like 3 hours to do a 20 minute job (I could give 50 more tips and pitfalls that caused that - though dropping tiny tiny screws was a great time consuming catastrophe). Did you short white and red ?

@@AutomateYourLife Only to test? That's not what you also did to connect the control wires?
Hey Bill - It is also what I did. You're right.
(Also, out of curiosity, how does the Meross unit send distinct open/close signals along these two wires and how do these interact with the three wire Teleco control panel system in terms of signalling compatibility?)
Thanks!

Brian, does this discount code still work sir? I can't get Amazon to accept it!
No sorry Nick! Meross only let us have it for a little while, sadly.
Does this require a 2.4GHz connection? I have a Google WiFi router (standalone unit, no mesh system) and it doesn't seem to play well with 2.4GHz switches.
It’s a wifi device, so it does use 2.4 GHz. I mean...Google WiFi should be able to handle that!

I'm still getting those push notifications, but I haven't tried Alexa in a long time with it. I'm using Google. :)
That is a great idea Robert!
The video is aowsome, but I would recommend if you can review the Broadlink RM Pro where it will integrate to the other systems and can learn the RF radio frequency from you remote. Wire free setup and the device can be indoor also 😀
Yep! Great point. The RFs are really good for this.
But not if you have a rolling code... In this case this meross garage opener is awesome!
Would it be so hard for these companies just sell a programable garage door opener with Zigbee in it that would fire off a button press?!?
Maybe you should ask these guys - ruclips.net/video/0QfnN4k_9kw/видео.html
Works great 30 minutes to install, now if I could only get Meross to link with Google Home - it says it linking but never does.
I'm going to be testing that this week. People keep telling me this now.
When I go to link my account it says it links. But if you go back it will show that the account isn't linked. I could get IFTTT working but not Google Assistant.
It does not link to Google Home yet. I’ve contacted Meross and am waiting on a response.
IFTTT does work as Adam said, and that’s an easy workaround!
@@AutomateYourLife Just looks like I can't add (link) any new services right now, tried a different service same results it say it is link in a brief popup box but does not show up.
@@wuguren Meross makes smart plugs and many more, the app should link.
I was able to use IFTTT to add voice control for opening/closing the garage door
How did you do that exactly. I'm having no success with it
@@wayneta6635 I also have had no success finding an IFTTT service that works with this opener
You guys don’t need that! Use the smart Meross action in the Google Assistant app and then ask Smart Meross to open/close
@@AutomateYourLife if it worked that will be awesome!, it does not work, i just purchase this product 4/12/19 it does not work. Highly disappointed. However your video was awesome very informative.
Google home keeps asking for a pass code. Any idea how to go around that or set it up?
Great video, what else yah got?
Thanks! You'll have to be a bit more specific on what you're looking for :)
Hi
I found your vid very interesting
I have garage motor 1000N-Speed
My problem is were to connect the meros wires as mine has 7 wires slots
They read
PB-GND-PE-24v-Flush-GND-SD
Thank in advance and keep up posting vids for us
I don't know your garage door opener, but what you'll notice is you likely (check this) have 2 signal wires that come from the button controller you have.
Put the wires for the Meross into those same slots and you should be good to go! Of course, read your manual and beeeeeeeeeee careful!
@@AutomateYourLife
Can i send you a pic of the pannel pls?
That won't help me. You gotta trace it out yourself
Great video. Very informative. Helped me out with my 2 installs.
Do you know if there's any way to change the "Door number" in the Voice Control section of the Meross app? I set up my openers in "reverse" order. I tried deleting and re-adding, but the numbers just keep incrementing....I'm now on door 1 and door 3 :(
You can build this same device out of a $5 sonoff basic switch
All you need is the sonoff and a magnetic Reed sensor switch
And a FTDI or other USB to serial UART TTL adapter to flash the sonoff
The whole thing can be made for $7-$9
It's definitely not complex stuff going on here, and without checking exactly what components you've suggested...I think you're right. I'd had similar thoughts using the device. I think for many people, putting together a device with those components might be a struggle though, so this is a good package I think. :)

There is a tutorial but I went another way and just used 2 cheap rf 433mhz relays and DPDT momentary push button switch
And my broadlink RM pro , with RM plugin bridge app running on my Android box
My garage is detached and the wifi signal out there is not relaible
I wired the 2 relays and the switch so that one relay programmed with one fq is to open and the other one is for close and uses a different fq
With the econtrol app you can download other people's rf remote profiles and then use those to teach the relays the fq ,instead of buying key fobs to teach them
True but does it notify you whenever the door opens, and when it's been open X minutes? And how do you wire the sensor to the Sonoff? I also perhaps mistakenly thought the (Sonoff combined with eWeLink) just turned things off or on (closed a circuit, or opened if N/C), rather then detected if a circuit is open or closed?
@@Bill_Woo not sure how the software end works exactly but I know that you can connect a sensor to the GPIO pins in the sonoff so yeah I guess that it would have state reporting
Excellent video Brian. Thank you.
I've got one of the Meross surge protectors, it's a decently priced & nicely functional outlet 👍
They seem to have good products. Nothing too fancy, but highly functional so far.
@@AutomateYourLife Couldn't put it better myself Brian 👍 Good to see companies reaching out to you for reviews
That video was incredibly in-depth. Thank you for making this. I will probably order one of these

Great video !!! Clear, Concise !!!..
2 questions:
2. The same as your wall push button, but you may have multiple terminals connected like I do, so you have to play a bit.
I shorted 3 different sets before I found it.
@@AutomateYourLife I believe my GDO unit has terminals specially designated for wall push buttons. So I should be able to test it once ! THANK YOU !
@@AutomateYourLife Hilarious ! On a different note, my home WI-FI signal inside the garage is two bars using my iPhone. Is that enough ? I prefer not to extend my Wi-Fi signal or add another wireless access point if I don't have to.....
Amazing video tutorial. Thanks a lot. Can be controlled by multiple users? And do you have another discount code that I can use? Keep it up man!
Hi there, sadly no discount code but absolutely can be controlled by multiple users!
Reviews state that this device does not actually work with google assistant. Has anyone confirmed?
I would like to see how you setup WiFi in the device through your phone. The video does not show much.
It's just a standard put in your credentials for your WiFi system.
Yeah that’s fair for sure. How often is the battery changed? I imagine year or so?
@@AutomateYourLife probably. only had mine for a month or two. I also install the same unit through work.
I like seeing other makes/models. I wasn't trying to say one is better than the other, just letting others know there are more options out there.
I’m not complaining! Was just asking for my own knowledge:)
Doesn't this look like a Sonoff?
It sure does :)
Love this video
Oh thanks!
Just picked this up. There was also an Amazon coupon for $10 off which made it a little more than 50% off. Couldn't pass up that deal.
Wow! I didn’t know that. Thanks Adam!
I absolutely will David! Thanks!
Look at ifttt.com
you can link your myq and google assistant.
Please guys and gals, dont forget to take all the screws out of the device before you insert a screwdriver and twist.
Thx for the video buddy, I having a hard time to install it,lol stupid me
You'll get it! It's a bit of a tougher device!
My garage door is all manual 😭
Yeah but there’s never a power failure of your arms!
Lol I've got that much shizz in my garage I don't even think I could find the door from the inside hahaha
Cool info😊
