Thank you for this! I have this laptop and really like it, but I've always wanted to upgrade the RAM and have been to afraid to try and crack it open. This gives me the confidence to finally try it - but I definitely need to get one of those trim opening tools.
hope all goes well for you :)
Great tutorial (by a fellow Aussie). Save me a whole heap of grief as I had the black screen of death and wanted to disconnect the battery.
My laptop had 4 long screws and 6 short ones, which I forgot initially which way they went in. Lol. Thanks!!!
Cheers Duncan
i find i tend to show our mention the screw size as im doing the repair for this exact reason
i find pressing and holding the power button for around 30-40 seconds also helps kill the power
Excellent walkthrough, the battery clip my notebook had me wondering, so thanks for doing that
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this teardown, one of my work partners habe one of this machines and need some ram and disk upgrade. Now i know how is inside.
Greetings from Argentina
my laptop is ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 TP412F, 4gb ram, i want to upgrade the ram but im not experienced in upgrading laptops. will any ram i buy work?? if no, what kind of ram do i need to buy?? is it any different from the ones you buy for pcs or is it the same?
Where is the BIOS battery on this model?? Can't seem to find it...
Not sure sorry, no longer have
Very helpful mate. Replacing the battery in my son's, and I think a memory and SSD upgrade will be happening now!
Awesome, opening the laptop is half the battle
Well done.. Detailed vids👍
Thanks 👍
If there is 4 gb of ram soldered to the mobo, then when putting the other ram then the machine would already work in dual channel?
yes 4GB Soldered on
i went with 4GB+16GB to make 20GB
4GB+4GB = Dual Channel
the other 12GB is Single Channel
alguien sabe donde se hace puente para resetear las bios :(
Hey mate I've just opened up my laptop to see why it as turning on, I disconnected the battery and put it plugged it back in but now my laptop doesn't detect my battery, any solutions?
hmm, did you bend a pin on the battery connector when you reinstalled it ?
is the battery upgradable upto 50Wh from 42Wh?
Not sure on that one
I got a small m.2. SSD.
Is it possible to remove the standoff so i can place it somewhere else?
Do you mean reusing the SSD?
The m.2 extender can be taken off the SSD's
@@rickstechrepairs Thanks, i meant something else but i found the answer.
Hey i have a question. I have this model and it doesnt turn on again... when i press the powrbutton on the left the powerlight flicks on for sec and turns of immediatly... i already changed the battery but it still does the same. Do you know a solution or should i bring it to a computerrepair store?
Thanks
i dont have a solution for it, take it to a local repair shop
Can I change the laptop's processor? or is it possible to upgrade it?
No you can't
@@rickstechrepairs Even replacing the motherboard?
I just ordered this laptop and it's coming 4gb/128gb. I'd like to 12 or 16gb/512gb. Do you have any suggestions or links for memory/storage drives?
the NVMe "should" be upgradable
the ram might be soldered on to the board, so you will need to open to find out
2:46 RAM upgrade
5:26 SSD upgrade (he says it's an m.2 nvme ssd but it's actually an m.2 SATA ssd)
my bad, sorry
@@rickstechrepairs its ok your video was still very useful !
I have a question about the ssd ,i bought a 1TB but the laptop doesnt respond.. when i turn it on the asus logo appears and doesnt do anything can anybody explain this to me ? Thanks!
Did you install windows or clone on to the new SSD?
If not you need to reinstall windows
Hi, Can I add an additional SSD into this laptop. Is there an option since my 128GB SSD m2 is getting filled up and need to add more.
nope, just the 1x M.2 NVMe Slot
@@rickstechrepairs Thanks for your reply. Will upgrade it but there is a hassle of buying the ssd enclosure too.
I went with a Kingston A2000 1tb to go in mine
They are my go to SSD these days
@@rickstechrepairs can I use NVME SSD which is mostly available.
@@rickstechrepairs is it compatible for all nvme type ?
i cant upgrade to windows 11 , i think i need a better processor , what would you recomend pls thks guys
You can't upgrade CPUs in laptops
Nice video ❤ Thankyou
Your welcome

i still have this machine, i upgrade to a Kingston A2000 1TB NVMe
And iv also added a single 16GB DDR4 3200 mhz stick
So it has the 4GB Soldered+16GB Sodimm to give me 20GB
I have a question about the ssd ,i bought a 1TB but the laptop doesnt respond.. when i turn it on the asus logo appears and doesnt do anything can anybody explain this to me ? Thanks!
what about GPU upgrade
Cannot change GPU or cpu
6:00 > But this is not M.2 Nvme as you told before: 5:27. It is a SATA SSD
Anyway, thanks for opening
You said in another comment that you put an NVMe, so, I guess it is also compatible with that after all. Anyway, before buying, I'm going to test with two old SSDs (NVMe and SATA) I have.
both should work
@@rickstechrepairs Yes, it is also recognized by the BIOS.
Anyway, I'm having this problem: the old SSD just showed this error:
* STOP CODE: DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG
So, I tried to install Windows on a new SSD, but it is still the same. Only installing Linux works.
Is your laptop still working? Which BIOS and Windows versions do you have?
The laptop is not mine, so, I don't know what was done here
I'm currently trying to upgrade in this same Asus laptop, the stock 128gb M.2 SSD to a new nvme 500gb SSD. Having no luck after the Macrium clone to the new nvme SSD. Windows will not boot and I've already spent many hours reading blogs and trying to figure out what is wrong. The clone seems good and the ASUS bios recognizes the new drive. I suspect there is some issue due to the new drive being nvme. I'm just about ready to say "f*ck it", my time is not worth this aggravation. I've never before had any issue building PCs, installing OS, copies, etc. So, the people saying this is easy no big deal, I'm not seeing it. Just to let you know, before going further down this rabbit hole, lol.
@@bigworldparty I couldn't repair the problem of the laptop that was brought to me, but I can say that it originally shipped with a SATA SSD, so, I suspect that although an NvME is recognized by the BIOS, it won't boot from it. Even the author of this video is showing a SATA SSD.
Perhaps you should try a BIOS update.
A last thing to do is to do a fresh install on the NvME and see if it boots.
lo que todas estas laptos 2 en 1 tiene en comun es que no solo tienen una bahia para una sola ram ... lastima , siempre es mejor dual channel
yes 4GB Soldered on
i went with 4GB+16GB to make 20GB
4GB+4GB = Dual Channel
the other 12GB is Single Channel
Does the notebook support NVMe Ssd?
Sure does, iv got a Kingston A2000 1TB
I bought A2000 500gb. But it doesn't work. The BIOS does not show an SSD. I can rule out a defect because it works via an external USB housing. Did I do something wrong?
@@rickstechrepairs Do I have to set something specific that the nvme works?
@@christianf5190 Possibly yes, some boot or driver changes are needed to use an nvme drive. My clone and install of an nvme SSD is not working, I can't get the Asus laptop to boot into Windows. I used Macrium free version software, to clone the stock 128gb drive to a USB attached 480gb Patriot M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD. Once swapped into the laptop, the boot is not successful, and the Macrium boot fixer does not fix the issue. In summary, this is not a simple swap like you normally would do, which previously I have done many times with regular drives.
nothing about the hard drive
nvme drive 5:25 ?
